  1. Nintendo 2DS

Making the new console is exactly their intent. 2DS is the tablet with plastic strip in the middle! It's just a testbed for later full version. The same as DSi was a testbed for online store. The same as DSiXL was testbed for less portable, bigger handheld. The same as GBA SP was testbed for clamshell design. Nintendo kind of has history of foreshadowing their design ideas... and currently all facts point to tablet being next-gen unified Nintendo console. Which may come sooner than we think considering the WiiU performance. WiiU successor certainly won't be a x86 based living-room monster, it's too late for that. And they'll need a WiiU successor sooner than later. I wouldn't be surprised if in 2014 N pulled a "3rd tier" thing again... We have home console, we have handheld console, and now in between with home performance and handheld portability and controls, her's the Nintendo Tablet! It plays new games, retro games, it plays (3)DS games, it has a store that actually works, it has huge amounts of memory for downloads. It plugs into TV. It kind of looks cool. [and then they proceed to completely ignore WiiU and 3DS]. Edit: And of course, the Tablet comes in two sizes - smaller for kids and XL for elderly and hardcore (or elderly hardcore )
  2. Nintendo 2DS

Depends what you consider a "handheld world". In classical sense (console that is portable), they're the only one who's got a successful model (other being Vita). But in 2013 terms, by handheld considering everything that is portable and can be used to play games, they're falling behind. Proof of that is the fact that BOTH of their current models are half-assed attempts at tablet design. It's like they are shooting themselves in the foot on purpose. Should've waited another year, released a tablet and be done with it. Call it "third tier" again, like they did when DS was released 4 years into GBA life-cycle. Did anybody really care about poor old "second tier" gameboy after Nintendogs stormed the market? But nothing prevents them from doing exactly that in a year or so. This is just a dishonest attempt to cash in on console sales. This is for parents who will buy the console, Pokemon and perhaps one Mario game and then forget about it, since games are way too expensive in their minds.
  3. Nintendo 2DS

I've read up on it and apparently the screen is actually one-piece, separated by a fake bezel. It internally emulates dual screen. "Top screen" is touch-enabled but obviously doesn't respond to input. So basically this IS a tablet only it'sgimped on purpose. WTF, Nintendo?? They're acting a bit schizo to be honest - they realize where the market is, but are dragged down by their own bad judgements from the past. So in desperate attempt to get back at the top, they make more bad judgements. And this shows exactly what the next hardware iteration will be after WiiU is laid to rest and 2/3DS is milked enough: a single handheld device (a tablet) that emulates (3)DS, GBA, Gamecube and whatnot games and connects to tv. Time to drop the gimmicks and smell the coffee. But it's certain that device won't be named Wii-something or something-DS, as both brands have essentially been gangraped by their owner.
  4. Nintendo 2DS

So, N spends three years explaining how 3D games are essential (new Zelda anyone) and then releases 3D-less console? And reality check for Nintendo: today's children play on second-hand phones, iPods and tablets they inherited from their parents and siblings. By paying pennies or even just consuming endless amount of F2P games. So that's free phone and almost-free games for the youngest. How does N intend to challenge that with £100 console and £40 games? It's not 2006 anymore. How long before Nintendo finally comes to senses and produces "proper" cheap one-screened tablet for kids, with Nintendo exclusives and an app-store for showelware....?? Probably too long. Just like HD graphics in Wii U.
  5. Why don't you have a Wii U?

Well, later in the generation lots of games appeared that used the Wiimote properly. And instead of improving the wiimote idea, Nintendo got back on regular controller layout with a screen. And compared to Move and Kinect games, Wiimote actually worked.
  6. Why don't you have a Wii U?

Apart from things already mentioned, one more thing that's keeping me off is Nintendo's betrayal of Wiimote as the main controller. Last gen, Wii was the only system with unique and mostly non-gimmicky controller. Both MS and Sony tried to follow but didn't get far. And now Nintendo wants to reinvent the wheel instead of improving the old wheel. I'm not too fond of a dualshock controller with a screen...
  7. Battle: Los Angeles

Wish they dumped this politically correct invasion of the America in favor of the real badass invasion force. I would like to see a remake of Red Dawn where Iran, N.Korea and rogue Russians (it's always rogue Russians) invade American mid-West, led by the evil zombie colonel Ghadafi. Charlie Sheen can fight them off with his brain, and Bruce Willis can play Mr. President. The evil forces will dominate and be near victory, when in the last five minutes, Chuck Norris will appear and high-kick them all into oblivion. YEAH!

    GO SONY!
  9. RTS genre perfect for wii

RTS games require extreme speed and precision. While Wiimote could offer that, I doubt regular user would feel comfortable pointing at specific pixel from 3 meters distance. Old PCs maybe had 640x480 (Dune2 had 320x200 mind you) but we actually sat 30cm away and had a steady mouse cursor. At 3m distance with Wiimote in shaky hands? I don't think so.
  10. Best PC game of all time!

Old: Monkey Island 2 New: Operation Flashpoint Online: none so far
  11. What is a casual gamer? (mini-rant)

IMO, casual gamer is someone who's not inspired by the games, someone who's not procreative about gaming. If you only play games and do absolutely nothing else about it, you're casual timewaster. If you are inspired by gaming and if you use that inspiration to fuel your own creativity, you're not casual.
  12. Need for Speed: Carbon

Hell YES!! Although imho, NFS Porsche was the greatest nfs ever... but anvway, enough of this "urban" cr@p...
  13. Christmas 2008

Best (unlikely) case: 1st - Nintendo Wii comes at its best, storms the world with innovative gaming experience 2nd - X360 steals consumers from Sony 3rd - PS3 fails due to high price Probable case: 1st - PS3 sells just because it's PS3 2nd - Wii is great but it's not PS3 3rd - X360 is not PS3 either Worst case (like current gen): 1st - PS3 sells just because it's PS3 2nd - X360 tries to cope with PS3, wins in N.America but looses everywhere else 3rd - Wii is considered a kid's toy gimmicky console with poor FPSes and countless Mini-games (few excellent first party titles don't save it from awful 3rd party controller implementation)
  14. Project H.A.M.M.E.R. (Wii)

This reminds me of Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu.... meaningless beat 'em up that's actually great for chilling out/stress relief.
  15. Wii Tennis

This "Tennis game" is just a tech demo. Look at the surrounding scenery graphics, and the characters made of basic shapes like cones, spheres etc. This is just the demonstration of the real game that will undoubtly come down the line. And will probably be Mario themed since both N64 and GC versions were huge success. The important thing is that maybe we'll have demos like this preinstalled on the Wii, or available for download. That would be nice.
