ZeldaFreak Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 But you didnt need to change TV's. Anyways whats the argument about? You don't need to change tvs to watch hd content - but it helps. Plus the whole gotta change my tv before digital switchover means that more people will be switching to hdtvs
rokhed00 Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 You don't need to change tvs to watch hd content - but it helps. It's completely pointless without a HDTV. Plus the whole gotta change my tv before digital switchover means that more people will be switching to hdtvs No, it means people will be buying Freeview sets, are any (of the two available) HD channels available on Freeview?

No, it means people will be buying Freeview sets, are any (of the two available) HD channels available on Freeview? But HD tvs are digital(they have the logo and everthing) plus nearly all hd tvs come with freeview built in.
Eddage Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 But HD tvs are digital(they have the logo and everthing) plus nearly all hd tvs come with freeview built in. True, but people aren't going to spend £700 on a new TV when they can get a freeview box for £20, thats why your "everyone will need a new TV when the digital changeover happens, so they'll get an HD one" argument is ridiculously flawed!

But they will doesn't matter if they pay £20 for a freeview box now if they don't have a digital tv they won't be watching anything when switchover happens.

You're an idiot As Rokhed said, all you need is the digibox and ANY TV, all that'll change is that you wont be able to watch the analogue channels of the old tv, but since you've got the digital channels on AV/EXT/whatever the hell your TV calls the scart input then you don't need to spend your life savings on a new TV!
Atomic Boo Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Yeah, i watch freeview on my rubbish T.V sorry to but in, i dont really know what you're arguing about.
Domstercool Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 The Playstation 2 read at 24x, PS3 reads at 2x. Massive difference, I take your word that the loading isn't long but I can't see it doing what you said unless the hard drive is used. The speed is different. 2x blu ray is NOT 2x DVD. Oh and the PS2 has a 4x speed DVD drive, which is about the same speed as a 24X CD drive. Now do you understand what I mean?
ZeldaFreak Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 You don't half talk shit, I'm watching didgital TV on an old TV set right now. When the government flicks the switch on digital even if you have an analogue tv it won't work. Plus when all tv is in hd then you'll have to buy an hd tv no other way HAHAHAHAHAAAAAHA!

Calza Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 When the government flicks the switch on digital even if you have an analogue tv it won't work. Plus when all tv is in hd then you'll have to buy an hd tv no other way HAHAHAHAHAAAAAHA! You can watch HD content on a non-hd tv, it just dosn't look hd. And we are only now going to switch to digital tv, it will take ages for hd everything anyway. I think I am pretty well informed about technology but I have no idea what POTC means and what will that matter to the mass market. Domstercool I know what you mean, my point was that PS3 reads Blu-Ray slower than the PS2 reads dvd's. I know they arn't equivalent but it still shows the difference.

Domstercool Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 But the actual data transfered is more than what the PS2 can do. I also did post that a DVD doesn't always read at 12 speed too. It's only certain sections of the disc, while the blu ray is constantly reading at it's 2 speed. I think it's something like 9mb/s Blu ray 2x and 15mb/s 12x DVD. But yeah DVD isn't always 12 speed because it can't read it's max speed on some areas of the disc. It isn't that majorly different to totally effect a game on one system than another. Loading is certainly not long and if you just can't deal with loading, then I don't know what to say. But enough of that. Let's play games!!!!
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I think we need a seperate thread for all this HD-Digital TV shizzle, as this is going off topic.
Calza Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 POTC = pirates of the carribean oh... One title is going to sway anybody. And Microsoft is going to be backing hd-dvd in a big way. I think you failing to realise that Sony are not good with proprietary formats. I mean just look at UMD, Mini-Disc, Atrac, Betamax, SACD, Hi-MD.... But enough of that. Let's play games!!!! Okay
rokhed00 Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 When the government flicks the switch on digital even if you have an analogue tv it won't work. Yes, it will, just like it is doing now, receiving digital, not analogue signals. Plus when all tv is in hd then you'll have to buy an hd tv no other way When will that be, 10 years, more? By that time I will have a HD TV and the PS4 will be on the market. HAHAHAHAHAAAAAHA! Why do you persist on making yourself look stupid?

I think you failing to realise that Sony are not good with proprietary formats. I mean just look at UMD, Mini-Disc, Atrac, Betamax, SACD, Hi-MD.... The only reason why microsoft is backing hd-dvd is because they didn't want to support a sony creation. The IT technicians and programmers that create Windows products, would actually prefer they backed the Blu Ray as they could fit all their content and extra stuff onto one disc. Even some of those formats were better it just didn't catch on like betamax because you couldn't record onto it. Yes, it will, just like it is doing now, receiving digital, not analogue signals. When will that be, 10 years, more? By that time I will have a HD TV and the PS4 will be on the market. Why do you persist on making yourself look stupid? Why do you persist on commenting just hit the ignore button if you want

AshMat Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 What was with the insane laughing? It'll be years before all tv is HD.
That Guy Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 ZeldaFreak, you talk so much shit it's incredible. I mean, it's been just a few short hours since I viewed this thread, and now there's so many utterly ridiculous posts from you that I just can't be bothered to go over them. Fortunately Rokhed has pointed them out for me. You consistently make yourself look like a knowledge-less idiot time and again. I've had Freeview/On Digital for years now on my analogue tv, so shut the hell up. As for this whole non gamer thing, DS has proved that people who aren't really interested in games can play them. My mom, dad, sister, my mate, and his girlfriend have all got a DS now. And these were people who couldn't care less about games. And as for thing you heard on Gamespot, Jeff Gerstmann actually said this week, "right now it's looking like you need a Wii and something else. PS3 and 360 have basically the same games". And that laugh actually only made you look like more of a 12 year old.
Calza Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 So Intel just backed HD-DVD for fun, you know maybe they might have suported it because maybe they helped devlelop it. Do you think companies will spend billions on it and then just leave it because somebody said the other one is better. Short answer, No. And like guy said my mum was intrested in the Wii and DS because they look fun instead of what she thinks is just blood and gore on the 360. Sure that isn't the case but it's the general view from a non gamer. Also please stop posting false information

Welll there you make a good argument. 1) you do realise all the analogue tv signals are being switched off by the government 2)What games do they play on them though I bet its brain training and thats all 3)They were discussing a price cut quote for the ps3, that bit 4) No it didn't 5)Can't stand me hit the ignore button. Lets talk about ps3 -awesomeness.
That Guy Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Yeah analogue signals. So you need freeview or Sky. End of story. You don't need a new tv. Anyway, back to PS3 discussion. Oh, and they have Brain Training, Nintendogs, New Mario Bros, The Sims 2, Tomb Raider and Sega Casino.
