Dcubed Posted Monday at 07:03 PM Author Posted Monday at 07:03 PM Having a built-in mouse would be a neat feature, but far from revolutionary. I really hope that Nintendo would have a more substantial trick up their sleeves than that...
MindFreak Posted Monday at 08:05 PM Posted Monday at 08:05 PM It seems, to me, like a rather awkward grip if that is going to function as a mouse. But I can totally see that would benefit a lot of games, even though it would limit the ability to press buttons. Also, one could just use the built in gyro for mouse-ish control. Like in the Magic Remote for LG tvs.
killthenet Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Posted Monday at 10:32 PM (edited) One thing I don't understand with the discussion I've seen in other places in the last week is why everyone is so doom and gloom about the APU being on an 8nm process node. The launch model of the Switch was 20nm and the battery life was reasonable then, why would an 8nm chip be any less efficient in relative terms? I can understand being a bit worried about a discrepancy in performance between docked and handheld mode but the first Switch got by just fine so there's no reason why the next one won't be able to perform well in handheld mode. I can understand being a bit worried about a discrepancy in performance between docked and handheld mode but the first Switch got by just fine so there's no reason why the next one won't be able to perform well in handheld mode. Because smaller nodes are now available and would yield much better battery life & performance. I still don't buy these rumours, purely because it would mean that Nintendo haven't changed the hardware once in the 2-3 years it has been since the T239 was first discovered. I just don't think it's likely that Nintendo have been sitting on finished hardware for that long. I also don't think that NVidia would stick with the Ampere architecture when they replaced it with Lovelace roughly 2 years ago (a more power efficient and capable architecture... something important to consider in a battery powered handheld). Furthermore, I don't buy that any of these "leaked" images are actually real. It's so easy to fake PCBs and 3D print components these days, I can't imagine that Switch 2 is so close to release that anyone would have production hardware to show anyway. No Nintendo console has ever had images of final physical hardware leaked pre-unveiling before, and I don't expect it to happen now. Edited Monday at 11:10 PM by Dcubed
Dcubed Posted yesterday at 11:56 AM Author Posted yesterday at 11:56 AM Speaking of fake images... https://bsky.app/profile/laurakbuzz.bsky.social/post/3lf5hyf567s2y Ain't no way any Nintendo device is shipping with Phillips-head screws. Anyone who's ever opened up a Nintendo device knows that they only ever use Tri-Wing screws in their devices.

The image was shared by Laura Kate Dale (don't feel like we've heard her name attached to big purported Nintendo leaks for a loooooooooong time), who also said: Quote This is a new photo I have recieved from a trusted source showing a Switch 2 Dock, featuring visible input and output voltage information (other information obscured). In addition, I have learned that the Switch 2 ships with a 60W charger for use with the dock. Quote As a result, to my understanding, the current generation Switch mains charger cable won't be suitable for use powering the Switch 2 when docked. Quote And don't expect anything else from me or anything. I have one solid verifiable image I'm confident to run. I'm not going to be reporting every bit of heresay and rumour that comes my way. We're in a calmer era today 😛 This is going to be a long month, isn't it? Now, can someone hurry up and "leak" the Pro Controller or cartridge already please? I want to know if we're getting a legit D-pad and if the cartridges are going to taste weird again Edited yesterday at 01:32 PM by Julius
killthenet Posted yesterday at 02:28 PM Posted yesterday at 02:28 PM The original Switch does use small Philips head screws on the top and bottom of the tablet so that isn't necessarily a sign that the dock picture is a fake. And I get that there are more efficient nodes available now that 8nm but the way people talk about it on other forums you'd think that its no upgrade over the original Switch but it will offer huge improvements over the previous generation so isn't that all that really matters? When it comes down to it we'll probably get the same sort of ratio of current gen ports as the original Switch has PS4/Xbox One ports - some developers will find a way to ship their games on Switch 2 while the likes of GTA VI will probably not be viable.

I meant more in the sense that now we're back from Christmas/New Year's break, everyone and their mother is going to take turns returning in force with a "leak" to share – which will make this a long month and probably leave us all sick of the idea of Nintendo's next console soon enough Meanwhile, Nintendo - already sick of the idea of their next console - have turned their attention to the true Wii U successor: the Wii U Wii U (and yes, they'll be replacing the *click* with siren noises)
MindFreak Posted yesterday at 07:34 PM Posted yesterday at 07:34 PM So... it's curious that none of the leaks mention a name at all, isn't it? Will it be called Switch 2 and thereby avoid any confusion, or will they go with a totally wonky name?

One of the supposed leaked picture of the dock did have Switch 2 branding so it seems pretty likely that's the actual name

Helmsly Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Genki have shown some of their Switch 2 peripherals at CES today and they have their Switch 2 joycon charger on display. killthenet Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago A French journalist tweeted after speaking to Genki staff that they heard that the console is set to release in April - pretty wild that if that's the case we could be playing a new 3D Mario in a few months 1
Julius Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) In addition, not only have Genki that they have a Switch 2 in their possession – they're saying that this thing is coming in April. Quote Nintendo Switch 2 invites itself to #CES2025 with several accessory makers showing off a model of the console and its accessories. Genki, with whom I chatted, claims to own a real Switch 2. Article and video tomorrow on @Numerama Quote Release everyone says April, announcement they don't have the info. Quote Introducing Genki Accessories and Switch 2 Info We'll be featured at the entrance to Eureka Park for four hours, get to meet the team at Genki, the most crowdfunded game hardware brand at Kickstarter, ever. We'll be sharing the products we've just finished crowdfunding as well as a peek of what's next. Happy to discuss any Switch 2 info we may have as well as the stuff we're making for it. Looks exactly as expected (and purportedly leaked), but yeah. All kinds of mental. Ball's in your court Nintendo, as it has been for the last 12 months. It also makes me wonder more about where things like Prime 4 and Legends Z-A lie in all this, what exactly their cross-gen transition plans are, and how big they plan to go with the initial announcement/set of reveals with Not-E3 taking place just a couple of months after launch *if* this thing does actually end up releasing in April. I don't know if it would be the smartest thing in the world - I wouldn't do it - but *if* it launches in April with a 3D Mario, you give the vague promise of Prime 4 and Legends Z-A launching by the end of the year, new Mario Kart in May, and heavily lean on announcements of third-party ports like Baldur's Gate 3 and Elden Ring, and some new announcements of what to expect from third parties too? They could seriously coast from a hypothetical launch in April to June for Not-E3 where they then announce more things and stick dates on Prime 4 and Pokémon. Again, not saying they should...but they could get away with that really easily. There's no way at this point that Nintendo haven't noticed the leaks, as they have started to break into mainstream media via larger outlets like IGN. Again, I don't think they care as much about the hardware if it's simply a more powerful Switch, and are probably happy for everyone to see the Switch 2 compared to how heavily guarded the actual software line-up is. Still, there's no way in my mind that they can wait it out this quietly unless they are incredibly confident in their launch line-up and whatever they have planned for the 6-12 months following. It feels very weird, almost scary, for the manufacturer of the highest-selling console of the past few generations to be so quiet when they know they have a switch (heh) they can flip to turn an entire industry on its head. Genuinely, and I mean this sincerely (though I may also be tired and just a little bit excited): I don't know if Xbox or PlayStation could be as quiet in this same situation.
Dcubed Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago If that really is the final design, then that would be shockingly boring. Are they really just going to make a faster horse? That would be so depressing if there isn't any new gameplay hook

Dcubed Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago (edited) I would be stunned if we didn't at least get a camera and microphone. They cost basically nothing and instantly open up additional gameplay possiblities (or rather, bring back old ones). Also, surely a stylus being included in the box is the most obvious "new" gameplay feature they could add!? Active Capacitive Styli have evolved tremendously since 2017 and are now both mature and cheap; just chuck one in the box and that instantly opens up the possibility for games like Kirby & The Rainbow Curse and Trauma Centre to make a return! Actually, that begs the question... What if the console/Joycons and Dock aren't everything that comes in the box this time around? Edited 1 hour ago by Dcubed
