Duuuuuuude: Toy Story 2 for PS1?!

3ddmpSP_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&

Another one of those I played with my cousin a lot growing up but never owned, think we'd only ever get as far as Al's Toy Barn which was its own gigantic funhouse.

Yeah...this service isn't going to be good for my backlog

Worth mentioning that it looks like they might still be in the process of adding stuff, think I've just seen Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon Everybuddy on the site which isn't in the list, and I think Ridge Racer 2 is missing? Could be down to regional variety though.

I mean, overall, it's a pretty solid list to start off with, definitely a couple of games I'm interested in playing already from the Classics catalog such as Wild Arms, Syphon Filter, Ape Escape and Toy Story 2. It's the initial rollout so it was always going to be a bit pared back, but they're definitely reaching to stretch out that list of classic titles (...Gravity Rush Remastered, really?).

Also worth bearing in mind that there'll be the mid-month refresh next month before it launches over here, and so I imagine there might be a handful of changes/additions by then, but exactly how much of a difference we'll see is anyone's guess ::shrug:

Anyways, opening to Ape Escape is looking pretty clean:

Uh oh... I'm hearing rumblings that the PS1 games are a mix of PAL and NTSC titles, seemingly with the versions chosen at random...

God I really hope that we don't get lumbered with PAL versions again... That's a complete dealbreaker if I can't have the NTSC versions; even on my US account...

Great overview of what it's looking like right now at the time of launch in Asia from Mystic:

Per VGC, PlayStation has confirmed that any PS3 or other streamed titles won't support DLC when rolled out as part of this PS+ overhaul:

Happy with Dino Crisis. Hopefully we get it over here this time around.

Yeah, hopefully! The catalog seems to (slowly) be shaping up well, main thing for me out the gate is the potential to go back to games I didn't get to finish as a kid (Toy Story 2), and hopefully getting exacting vengeance on others for how they traumatised me as a kid (Dino Crisis).

With the Japanese service having a full NTSC game selection, Ryan tests some of them out.

Looks to be good news for those wanting the NTSC versions of the PS1 games. As always, I'm happy enough with PAL releases as that's what I played as a youngster.

New PS Plus is going live in the US today, meaning we might see a few more games added.

Here's one: Resident Evil Director's Cut.

Apparently all of the PS1 games on the US service are the US NTSC versions.

Thank God!

Unfortunately though, it sounds like Sony have done nothing to fix the PS2 games on PS5; so you still need a PS4/PS4 Pro unless you want to play them with mangled & broken graphics.

Wasn't expecting it to go live at midnight, but here we are!

What's everyone looking to download and play first?

Classics:

  • Ape Escape
  • Syphon Filter
  • Wild Arms

Probably going to play Ape Escape first.

And when I'm done with that and Nexomon: Extinction (so probably in a few weeks :p) there's gonna be something from the list I made:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Balan Wonderworld
  • Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY!
  • Concrete Genie
  • Cris Tales
  • Death Stranding: Director's Cut
  • Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age
  • Ghostrunner
  • Killzone Shadowfall (+ Intercept)
  • The Wonderful 101: Remastered
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • South Park: The Fractured but Whole
  • Hotshot Racing
  • Indivisible
  • Minit
  • Saints Row: The Third Remastered
  • Greedfall

Got enough to try out the service until January and decide probably in November/December whether I'm going Extra or Premium :D

I downloaded Wild Arms this morning but that's only because I had previously bought it. I'm still not sure if I'm going to subscribe to the service yet. For £10 I can upgrade my standard Plus to Premium for 3 months. Seeing as Ape Escape is £8 anyway, I may do this just to play though that, Syphon Filter and Everybody's Golf. I'm only really interested in the PS1 games, especially those with trophy support, and so if I do this, I can't see me staying subscribed for long.

Will you stay subscribed to Essential?
If so, wouldn't it make sense to upgrade to Extra for 40 bucks more a year? And depending on the classic PS1 games coming at certain times, upgrade to Premium for a tenner that particular month?

I know you prefer actually buying games, same as I, but there's no denying that it's ridiculous value given the amount of games on the service.
