Hero-of-Time Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Not one for @Julius. I disagree with point number 2. I think I'm much better at games now than what I was as a kid. One of the points about having too much to do is spot on. I had this yesterday where I got in from work, had to mow the lawn, do some weeding, clean the bathroom and then tidy the house. It was hours before I actually got any gaming done after work. The final point is a good one and is why when I do play an online game, I pretty much play on my own/with random players. Trying to get people together for a gaming session is just not possible anymore for me. Gone are the days of playing the likes of Halo 3, Gears of War and Monster Hunter until stupid o clock in the morning with my mates. 2

Happenstance Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I'm kind of tempted to sell my PS5 at the moment. I just seem to have completely dropped off console gaming and am pretty much exclusively PC at the moment. Can't think of anything coming up that I want to play and I haven't touched the console for months. 1

May be worth holding on to for that, before flogging it.

Julius Posted August 4 Posted August 4 26 minutes ago, Happenstance said: Nah, I've never cared for any of those to be honest. But yeah, like H-o-T said, I think it's a very understandable position to be in – I feel like we're all still in that state of playing more PS4 games than PS5, despite now being close to 4 years into the life of the console, and a lot of those older games are making their way to PC now with remasters/remakes/what have you these days anyways, so if that's where you're playing everything anyways There's part of me which feels like it might be worth waiting until next month for the probable Showcase before pulling the trigger, though, because we know next to nothing about what PlayStation's roadmap looks like for first-party games beyond this year, and if they do have a Showcase, I feel like their hand has to be forced and they have to make some worthwhile announcements, and I imagine you might be interested in a few of those. At the very least, they'll probably talk about that leaked Spidey spin-off if it's coming next year, and could also give an update on Wolverine to give us any confidence that it's coming out in the next few years (Insomniac is virtually the only studio of theirs where I put stock in a game being announced years out and making it). Besides that, though, it's the usual wait and see with all their other big studios and whether or not they actually turn up and make some announcements: Bend and the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Naughty Dog and Santa Monica with their potential new IPs, etc., though I'm not sure how much interest you'd have in those offerings over Insomniac and their upcoming Marvel games. 1

Julius Posted August 7 Posted August 7 (edited) 2.4 million PS5s shipped this quarter, meaning 61.7 million units shipped now across the console's 3 years and 9ish month lifetime. Sales launch aligned with the PS4, which show it is still just about straggling behind its predecessor. Got to imagine that GTA VI, should it arrive next year, will be what takes it over the line. I'm sure that any sort of consistency to releasing their AAA first-party offerings would also help Edited August 7 by Julius 1
drahkon Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Mighty impressive given the economy and what little Sony have shown in recent times.
Hero-of-Time Posted August 7 Posted August 7 1 hour ago, drahkon said: Mighty impressive given the economy and what little Sony have shown in recent times. Indeed. Strong 3rd party support and the general strength of the brand has been carrying it the past year or so. Apparently 2025 is set to be a big year for the console, what with all of the 1st party eggs finally lining up. They'll need it because I imagine the Switch 2 will be dominating most charts/sales/discussions next year.
drahkon Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Free, if you own one of the two games. I bought all the classic dooms on PS quite a while ago while they were dirt cheap. Never played any of them so...maybe now's the time to give them a go
drahkon Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Finally went back to Remnant 2 now that a mate actually started playing it Him, another friend and me started a new campaign last night and finished the first world. It's such a good co-op experience. The gunplay is tight, the classes are varied, the puzzles are really good. The "new guy" is now our dedicated "puzzle guy" because the other friend and I already know most of the solutions Can't wait for him to get to a certain music puzzle... Anyways, a few days ago I decided to crack on with my own campaign as I hadn't finished it before. Beat the final boss which is a great challenge. Lots of fun! Gonna check a trophy guide soon and slowly but surely work my way through the list Hope to get another co-op session going soon, too
Hero-of-Time Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Earned a few platinums this weekend. I didn't realise the PS5 version had a semi auto pop. I had to play through most of the main missions again but it was a breeze thanks to being able to carry over my character from the PS4 version. Was a bit fiddly going from Rise of the Ronin back to this. I wish developers would standardise control methods. I played through this last year and it was in my Double Platinum section on my PS5. With it being removed from PS+ next week, my hand was forced to get it played again. Fun and light experience, especially seeing as I remember a lot from previously playing it. Bit of a weird one this. There's a lot to like about it. Music, art style, combat and boss encounters are all great. However, the game really needs a map to keep track of where you've been. Not having one available means it's easy to get lost and it requires a lot of memorisation. My main complaint is how unstable the game can be. I had 5 or so hard crashes that caused me to restart the game and go back to my nearest checkpoint. The times this happened was frustrating but I just got on with it. What was unforgivable though was a major bug occurring about 10 minutes before I finished the game that caused me to lose all my progress and making me start from scratch. I was furious. Apparently it's a bug a fair few gamers have encountered but nothing has ever been done about it. A few people have reached out to the developers about this issue but never got any word back from them. Ignorant gits. Another problem was the games visuals. Characters and actions were animated really well but for some reason the game caused my eyes to go bloodshot every time I played it. In all my years of gaming I've never had this happen before. I'm assuming it had something to do with the constant flashing colours, which they warn about before the game starts. For me, if you know that these flashes are causing issues so much that you need to give a warning, either don't put them in or allow the player to disable them. So, yeah, overall a very mixed bag. As I said, there's a lot to like but there are some major problems with the game that could have been sorted to make it a much better experience. 1

Dcubed Posted August 23 Author Posted August 23 A great idea in all honesty. China Hero has been one of Sony's most successful projects this generation and one of the smartest moves they've made. Just imagine their console without Genshin Impact or Stellar Blade. Makes perfect sense to extend the initiative to other developing regions.

Not having them on the PS4/PS5 would have been a lot of cash being left on the table. All these companies are wanting constant growth and given the state of the Western markets, I think entering and investing in these other markets this is the only way they are going to achieve it.

Huh, I didn't realise either of these games were ever part of/had ties to the China Hero Project? If that's what you're saying and they were, you'd definitely think Sony would make a much bigger deal out of their connection to the initiative. Could've sworn Stellar Blade was Korean made and backed already before Sony jumped onboard Personally, I only associate the China Hero Project with the look of games like Lost Soul Aside and The Winds Rising, heck even Black Myth: Wukong (which I think would've been part of it if it didn't explode by itself) – games which take forever to come out and go ham on the particle effects. They've definitely defined the look of Chinese-made games for me. Either way, yeah, the PS5 has definitely become a gacha machine, and I imagine that's probably the only thing to keep it remotely relevant in East Asia, and has probably made them much more comfortable in waiting for GTA VI and the surge that will provide in the West. 10 minutes ago, Hero-of-Time said: All these companies are wanting constant growth and given the state of the Western markets, I think entering and investing in these other markets this is the only way they are going to achieve it. Absolutely. I was reading the other day about how PS5 sales exploded on Alibaba after the release of Black Myth: Wukong (here's a source, not sure if it's the exact article I read but meh). Definitely feels like East Asian development outside of Japan is starting to have a moment, what with Dave the Diver and Lies of P coming out of Korea last year, and Black Myth: Wukong this year.
