Dcubed
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/castlevania-producer-koji-igarashi-leaves-konami Koji Igarashi, best known for his work on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, has left Konami. His last day at the Japanese developer was Saturday, March 15. The producer departed the studio with intent to open a new development studio. "I've decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make -- the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well," Igarashi told IGN. "Leaving Konami was a big decision, and not one I took lightly – I’ve spent my entire career there, made many friends, and had a lot of great opportunities – but I hope all the gamers and fans who have supported me in the past will join me in being excited about what comes next. Wish me luck!” Rather opportune timing, what with him doing a talk about Metroidvania style game design at GDC this week... Time for Translefortress, starring Mighty Simohn Belmondo, developed by Konotmi?
bob
Oh god, now they're taking to each other. Can we just give them their own sub-forum?
Fused King
THIS THREAD SHALL NOT BE SPOILED BY RANDOM BOTS OF THE MISMANAGED ADVERTISING KIND! I can't believe this is actually happening. "The same kind I think fans of my past games want as well" This coupled with his GDC appearance has me hoping he might be announcing his kickstarter or something along those lines during his presentation! Beautiful, simply beautiful. Though he's not going to be working with the Castlevania license, which is a bit sad, but I bet that he can come up with an even more bad-ass world

The Bard
Well this pretty much means that Castlevania as a franchise is over. Here's hoping his next venture is a two dimensional platforming adventure in which you level your character, acquire weapons and skills and is set in an architecturally quaint and curious Gothic castle with 16-bit renderings of neo-baroque music. I'd kickstart the fuck out of that.
Jonnas
Well this pretty much means that Castlevania as a franchise is over. I thought it was over the moment they called in a reboot, really.
The Bard
I didn't; I figured that they'd have to try their hand at a 3D version of one of their most loved franchises some time or another. What I didn't think it would mean was that they'd totally jettison Igarashi's versions.
flameboy
Dracula is in the public domain so I reckon he will resurface with a spiritual successor much in the same vein as Mighty No.9/Mega Man. Hell even Alucard isn't an original Konami idea so he can even go with that if he chose!!! I wanna see a return to those 2D games man I loved the GBA/DS games. What I didn't think it would mean was that they'd totally jettison Igarashi's versions. I figured making a point of calling them "reboots" was the red flag, not the 3D or the gameplay change. They tried multiple times, bringing Castlevania to 3D in the past (with varying degrees of failure), and they even pretended afterwards some of them didn't exist, but they never went as far as making a point of rebooting the name. Fused King
More quotes have surfaced and it seems that he also would like to prove himself in the 3D space, because his 3D games never quite worked out that well. Interesting.

Interesting. ok well let's hope he has to make a few 2D games first before he can fund the 3D!
