That's without a game or memory card, too. I bought my XL for 130 a while back, so 110 seems overpriced. It's not like the PS3 launch day anymore. There is a lot of media and game content as well as particular services that you can make a lot of money from if you get lots of customers. As Google show with 'their' hardware. Plus Blu Ray isn't going to cost Sony as much these days. Can you tell me how the Wii U sold at a loss at its release price but the PS4 at £350 apparently isn't? The standard price for a 3DS XL is £170. Just because you managed to get it cheap does not mean everywhere is selling it that way. As such, there are bound to be places that charge less for the 2DS, too. Also, Nintendo aren't like the others. THey believe once you pay for a console and a game, you shouldn't have to pay more to enjoy it. They have specifically stated this in various interviews. They don't want a subscription service, or ridiculous DLC that is necessary for a game. It's amazing how people look down on them for not screwing the consumer. And yes, specs determine value. However, you questioned it in regards to the Wii U and then proclaimed that the Vita should be destroying the 3DS due to price and "better specs". I hate logic like this so much. Anything they made with the PS1 and PS2 got depleted. Why you would want Nintendo to do this with their systems, I have no idea. Them actually earning money is beneficial as it means they can actually survive as a company. It's absolutely ridiculous that people come up with their own arbitrary view of what a console is worth, rather than what it is actually worth, and then insist that their view is the case. Also, specs don't sell a system, games do. This is always the pattern. People always insist the best selling one will be the most powerful, and it never is. So it doesn't matter that the Vita "slaps the system into submission in terms of specs". Seriously, who the hell cares? You're misinterpreting what he was saying. It wasn't "Vita has better specs so it's going to sell better/be more popular", but rather "can the comparative cost of the 2DS really be justified given what Sony have put under the hood of the Vita for a bit of extra money"? Posted August 29, 2013 Slightly off topic - but given that this (to me) looks like the 3ds version of the Wii mini, does anyone think this could be like the last 3ds version we see before a new console? It seems like there will be no more 'updated' versions of the 3ds so what would be left? Just continue making games for it for the next couple of years or are they secretly planning to unleash a new handheld moving away from the 'DS' name to something entirely different!!? Who knows?! I seriously do expect a 2DS XL. Nintendo's business plan with handhelds seems to be to get four models out over six years or so. Thinking about it, the 3ds (though it has many amazing games in its library), really hasn't utilised the whole dual screen thing that made the original DS so unique. I have loved many games on the 3ds, but feel like the touch screen has been ignored somewhat for this generation of console. It's a shame really as the DS used it in such clever ways at time - particularly another code, hotel dusk, elite beat agents etc. I think perhaps the step up in power and graphical capabilities has meant developers have just left the top screen as the playing screen and hardly made use of the bottom screen for anything other than touch menus, inventories and maps. Not that it's a bad thing - it just doesn't really make the most out of it IMO. So yeah, would be nice to maybe get a brand new console in a few years that moves away from the DS brand / style. Are you telling me you agree with the stripped down 2DS pricing at £110? Bearing in mind it is being sold for maybe £20 less than the Vita, which bitch slaps this system into submission in every way in terms of specs. Don't think it would make that much difference but it is a factor. How is it to hold, is it comfy? I think this will be a big seller at £99. Sweet price point with a great library of games that little kids could also share with any other sibling/parent 3DS owners. I too was initially shocked by the design but see that this is the perfect system for kids under 7, bridging from devices like V-Tech to the wonderful world of Nintendo gaming. My only concern would be Nintendo skewing even younger with their software due to now targeting this market more aggressively. Posted August 30, 2013 I've not played my 3DS much. I've realised I only bought it for first party games, which I'm perfectly fine with. Roll on Pokemon. My current set up is PS3/4 for my home console, my Vita for all those indie games I want to play but never on a PC and my 3DS XL Pokemon machine. Boom. I think I've hit a nice balance. I like the 2DS. I think it should be £79.99. I bought my 3DS XL for £130 (I think). I'd like it a hell of a lot more if it had real analogue sticks - yes, two of them. Posted August 30, 2013 The white one looked better in the marketing / promo pics... The one above looks cheap. I know it's meant to be cheap but it does look like a big block of plastic! I can't help but think this would be more comfortable than the normal 3ds though. I often get hand cramp (usually only with Mario Kart) as I'm holding down the A button for so long and reaching up for the R trigger. But this seems like the R button is a bit further up so should be a little easier to hold. Wonder if these will be out anywhere in stores to get a hands on with?
