Hero-of-Time Posted November 26, 2016 Author Posted November 26, 2016 Fantastic stuff so far. I've just been driving around while listening to the FFVII soundtrack, tackling monster quests, finding hidden stuff on the map and just generally having fun running around the huge areas. I've been taking on monsters much higher than my current level. Some of the fights have been taking a while but the combat is so fun that the time just flies by. Being able to hit an enemy, warp away, comeback with a warp strike, combo him with a lance, switch weapon to do big damage with a heavy sword and then unleash a triple set of team up moves feels absolutely amazing. At the end of one of my fights Promto started singing the FF fanfare. I was laughing my back off.

Sounds great. But I'm still worried about the tatical side of combat. I know that there's a "pause" button to choose your magic/attacks but is it really necessary/beneficial? If it's not...I'm not happy
Happenstance Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I'm still waiting for the patch to download. Should be done at around 8pm.

Just realized that the FFVIII soundtrack isn't unlocked at the start. I need to find that ASAP! EDIT: Never mind, I've just found it at the first shop in the game.
Nolan Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Damn US retailers and their whole not breaking street date thing. I have to wait for Tuesday before I'll get my copy. It isn't even shipped yet.

It isn't even shipped yet. Same with TheGameCollection. Annoying as I'm going on a week trip to San Diego with work from Wednesday. Definitely won't be using them again for preorders.

A staff member on twitter said they packed the games already but didn't ship them so as not to break the street date. If this is what they're doing now then I'd rather not chance it with them.
Happenstance Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I like the little booklet you get with the game with all the dev's signatures in it.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 26, 2016 Author Posted November 26, 2016 I like the little booklet you get with the game with all the dev's signatures in it. Yeah, it's a nice little touch. The booklet with all of the latest S-E games is also nice. Reminds me when publishers used to put instruction manuals and cool promos in the boxes. Man, cash is hard to come by in the game. I'm really having to be careful on what I spend it on.
Sheikah Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Man, cash is hard to come by in the game. I'm really having to be careful on what I spend it on. Music for the car, obviously.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 26, 2016 Author Posted November 26, 2016 Music for the car, obviously. Hey, the FFVIII soundtrack is a much needed item!
Sheikah Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Hey, the FFVIII soundtrack is a must needed item! Oh yeah, I'd definitely be buying the discs as well is what I meant!
Happenstance Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Had to laugh at the opening. They're really leaning into the friends roadtrip thing aren't they.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 Woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to crack on with this. @gmac I see you were still on it when I fired my PS4 up. I take it you are enjoying it? The trophies are now live on PSN which means you can now sync everything up with the servers. Man, the battle music is so epic. I'm almost gutted when a fight is over as I have to wait to hear it again. I'm still not that far into the story. The events of Kingsglaive have just occurred now.
Happenstance Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 How're you doing with the combat? I still find it a bit clumsy when fighting large groups, especially when you need to block but are targeting one enemy but have to try and dodge multiple other ones.

I still find it a bit clumsy when fighting large groups, especially when you need to block but are targeting one enemy but have to try and dodge multiple other ones. If there are large groups I tend to warp away and then blast them with magic. If I'm out of magic I warp in and out, while doing large sweeps with the big sword.
Happenstance Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 There are definitely some odd moments in this if you haven't seen the movie beforehand.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 There are definitely some odd moments in this if you haven't seen the movie beforehand. Yeah, the movie is pretty much essential viewing if you want to know what's going on. The game is played out as if the player has seen it, if not then some of the scenes will look weird and out of place.
Happenstance Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Do you know if items in the Treasures section of the inventory simply for selling or should I hold onto them?
Hero-of-Time Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 Do you know if items in the Treasures section of the inventory simply for selling or should I hold onto them? I haven't sold a thing yet. Like most JRPGs, items like these can be used for side quests. There's been a few times in the game where I've instantly completed the quest because I had the item in stock.

There's been a few times in the game where I've instantly completed the quest because I had the item in stock. Yeah me too but none of them seemed to be treasures. Their descriptions made it sound like they were just for selling so I'm assuming that's what they are.

The game is played out as if the player has seen it, if not then some of the scenes will look weird and out of place. This bothered me actually, I was worried for people who played the game without having seen the movie would be left confused about what is going and why.
