Wii
There is no doubt in my mind that they will have their big guns ready for the next Xbox and Playstation. If by some chance they do cock it up, it will be fine. Nintendo with their backs against the wall is the best Nintendo. ( see N64 & GC for details ) They better be ready. N64 & GC were good times. I can't remember any casual muck from back then released by Nintendo. Flash forward to now and you have Wii Fit, Wii Music, Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Brain Training and on and on. Even titles like Mario Kart Wii, NSMB Wii, Metroid: Other M and the holy grail Zelda: Skyward Sword made huge efforts to grab the casual audience. Where's the casual audience now? Is it still there to the same extent or have they moved on? Iwata apologised and admitted they made a mistake abandoning the hardcore audience for the casuals but talk is cheap. I don't see it yet. There launch games weren't targeted at the core crowd. Where's all the core 3rd party announcements? They may come to reap the rewards of what they sowed last generation. It was great at the time but in the long term it might have hurt them. Time will tell. Fingers crossed it'll be good.
liger05
What makes you think that? Not a single Kinect game other than Kinect Sports has shifted over 1 million copies worldwide and the Kinect can't actually weigh you or keep track of your fitness progress (which is one of Wii Fit's biggest selling points) Not to mention that the Balance Boards are already out there, so there's no need for an expensive peripheral to be bought if they want the game (just the console) 18 mil kinects have been sold. I would be shocked if a percentage of that casual audience that bought the Wii didnt also go and buy the kinect. That's what the casual will do isnt it, move on to the next thing? I know the Wii U Fit has its own features which others dont but it's a different market to when Wii Fit came on the scene.

I would actually hate for Nintendo to stop making games like Wii Sports/fit, brain training, nintendogs etc. I like that Nintendo can make games like that too, along side their Mario Galaxy's and Zelda games. Right now I don't see anything on the Wii U that would attract the same kind of people that bought the Wii sports style games. Nintendoland just doesn't fit that group in my opinion. Or at least the way it looks doesn't.
liger05
UK - http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.j....jsp&ct=110032 Capcom end FIFA 13’s run at the top as ‘DMC’ (Devil May Cry) debuts at No1.It may be a quiet time of year, but it still represents Capcom’s first All Formats No1 since ‘Resident Evil 5’ back in week 13 2009 (Resident Evil 6 could only manage No2). Released on Tuesday and developed by Cambridge indie developer Ninja Theory (the first time a Devil May Cry title has been developed outside of Capcom), DMC sells over a third of what ‘Devil May Cry 4’ did at launch when it also reached No1, back in week 6 2008.‘FIFA 13’ (-40%) drops to No2 ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (-26%), while ‘Far Cry 3’ (-49%) falls 2 places to No4. There is no change at No5 and No6 with ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’ (-35%) and ‘Just Dance 4’ (-18%) both non-movers. ‘Football Manager 2013’ (-16%) is up one place to No7, while sales of ‘Hitman Absolution’ (-50%) are cut in half, knocking it from No4 to No8. The Top 10 is rounded off by ‘Skyrim’ (-20%) at No9 and ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (-21%) at No10. DMC is the only new release to chart this week. Oh I agree however I would still say nothing hitting the top 40 when the lowest selling games are probably selling 1000 copies is pretty bad. This was the case before christmas as well. Daft
With the Vita and the Wii U both dying a death, I wonder if the marketplace hasn't just become incredibly hostile to new products. I guess the 3DS breaks that trend but it had to have a massive price drop to do that. If Sony and Microsoft don't position their marketing properly next gen they could easily stall on launch, too. Price will be a big thing. No way Sony makes the same mistake they did with PS3. I think both will be looking to sell for £399 max, possibly less if they can. People are ready to go and buy new Ipads and tablets every few months so I suppose it just takes the right product to get them to buy a new console. Also the PS3 and 360 are not going to vanish when the next consoles arrive. They will still sell very well due to cheap hardware and a deep library. That’s according to data from GfK Chart-Track, which says that the £300 bundle won around a 60 per cent share of the console’s launch weekend sales. The ZombiU bundle accounted for 30 per cent, leaving Nintendo’s entry-level 8GB Basic pack grabbing just 10 per cent. The machine was helped by a 24-strong launch software line-up what Chart-Track describes as “more than any other home console ever launched in the UK”. Wii launched with just 14 games, for instance. The highest Wii U entry in the software charts was bundled game Nintendo Land, although it failed to break into the Top Ten, debuting at No.11. Fellow first party release New Super Mario Bros U entered the listings in 13th with Ubisoft claiming the highest charting third party title – ZombiU in 17th. Captain Falcon
Wii Sports is different in that it was never available at the time as a standalone retail game. If bundles aren't included in the sales figures, then it really messes up the charts figures. Opening week saw NintendoLand finish in 11th place in the charts, sandwiched between the Xbox and PS3 version of AC3 (in 9th and 13th place) which supposedly did a combined 53k units that week (that's a figure from NeoGAF but apparently it's legit and not just a best guess). Therefore, it's reasonable to assume it, NintendoLand, did do sales of around 26k since double that would get you back to the AC3 total sales which sit equidistant from it in the charts. Now, the console did 43k approx units in the opening week and 60% of those were the Premium with NintendoLand which works out at just shy of 26k units of the game.... isn't that a coincidence. So, if the bundles are not included in the charts, then Nintendo shifted 26k in individual sales and another 26k as part of bundles... which means they sold way more copies of the game than they did hardware capable of playing it. It also means that New Super Mario Bros U, which charted lower, got outsold by none bundled copies of a game that 60% of Wii U owners already had which clearly doesn't make sense. Simply put, a game targeting 100% of the Wii U install base, carrying the Mario brand, got outsold by one targetting 40% of it - doesn't seem likely now does it? I will admit I was always under the impression that official bundles never counted toward chart figures but the way every site has reported Wii U hardware/software figures, and their placements, leaves little doubt that these aren't being included to me. I guess the 3DS breaks that trend but it had to have a massive price drop to do that. If Sony and Microsoft don't position their marketing properly next gen they could easily stall on launch, too. The difference is that they will play host to the games people buy yearly iterations of (eg. Call of Duty, FIFA), so they will simply have to buy the new consoles in order to keep up. What the Dreamcast, Vita and Wii U show is that the masses just aren't keen on gaming enough to be excited by new hardware for its own sake. I don't want to be too snobby though, because I think Orbis and Durango will both be very powerful and it will be more obvious what you're getting for your money (than the Wii U). Debug Mode
So sales data for Japan due tomorrow. The data should end on the 20th of January so considering Animal Crossing stocked was actually received by Amazon and a fair few new market place sellers on the 17th/18th, I imagine there might be another spike for that. Amazon are also expecting further shipments on around the 27th, so it may look like stock problems are finally clearing up.
