I'm not surprised it's the biggest debut for the series. It's a main series title and Japan has been absolutely dying for a new one ever since the Portable series died, which would have easily been the most profitable had the not milked 3 for all it was worth.

Considering that the PSP userbase at the time of MH3P's launch was still quite a bit bigger than the 3DS' current one, I'm surprised!

Yeah, this game has more going for it (being the first truly new entry since 2009 and the first new mainline game ever on a handheld/first handheld online Monhun game etc), but still!

BTW, Just as a reminder. The Wii U pricedrop has now come into effect in the US and EU, dunno about Japan though (has it come into effect there yet?).

Here's hoping it makes a significant impact! TWW HD's Miiverse post count has already surpased TW101 (in all regions, including Europe's community) in just about a day as well, so that's a decent sign at least.

☆ Wii U Sales Rise +128% in US Following Price Drop and Release of WWHD Bundle ☆ W101 Sales 15K in US ☆

Following the price drop and release of Wind Waker HD Bundle in the US, Wii U sales have risen from 8,612 the week ending September 14th to 19,617 the week ending September 21st. This is the highest Wii U sales have been in the US since the week ending March 30th when the Wii U sold 20,116 units, and the third highest amount sold in a week for the US in all of 2013. This nearly reaches the 23,799 PS3's sold in the US on the same week of life (Sep. 15th 2007).

Meanwhile the worldwide sales were brought up from from 20,946 (Sep. 14th) to 33,964 (Sep. 21st). Remember though NA is the only region to receive a price drop/bundle at this time - bundles will be dropping in EU on Oct. 4th and Oct. 31st in Japan. So just stay tuned another few weeks to fully see what the price drop/bundles do.

In other news, The Wonderful 101 sold 15,134 units in its US launch week bringing the total worldwide sales up to around 44-45K.

It should also be noted that the WWHD Bundle was only on sale for 2 days.

I think it needs a further €50 price drop for things to get motoring if it's even possible at this stage. A price tag of €250 in line with what the Wii originally launched at. Can Nintendo afford that though? It's a huge hit but they could make it back through game sales. It needs something drastic at this stage and that's not even considering the 2 steamrollers that are about to launch. Wonderful 101 has bombed everywhere now which is sad but you can't sell a game to those that don't own the console and advertising was non-existent.

Well, my post was slightly sarcastic. Price drop has been my party line since the UK stores started doing £200 premiums. I think that's the right price(or £199 rather, for the psych effect) - Nintendo are making interesting, and possibly the right, choices though - the japan bundles intrigue me. Whilst I have no concept of the price equivalence; selling consoles with a couple games already installed is a good way forward, no? It's just a shame they designed a console with such small internal memory.

Anyhow, I think that jump is incredibly healthy - my only issue is that it's difficult to discern whether it's due to the WWHD or due to the price drop(which I think more likely). Not getting too optimistic yet though, wanna see it keep up.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD first day sellthrough in Japan 30%. Not going to be a very good first week of sales for WWHD in Japan.

The price drop has seen an increase in sales as expected but as I thought the problem is even if the sales double from the previous month it would still be a bad number. Its a real struggle just to get up to 100k a month in the US.

That's just for physical store copies though right? No account for digital download or WW bundles? Is 30% even a bad number? Feel like I'm lacking the context here.

That would be physical copies and download cards. 30% isnt great as the majority of sales will be in the first 2 days. I'm not sure what the shipment number was but Zelda isnt that much of a big thing in Japan so maybe we should expect it to not perform well. I would of thought it would of hit 50% sell through though at least.

Nintendo however are treating WWHD as a AAA new release and I think they expect this to push HW sales up just as they expected Pikmin 3 and W101 to do the same.

I know Zelda isnt as big in Japan but damn 30k is low and it did nothing for the Wii U at all. Another 1st party game which has not really boosted sales of the console.

Why is anyone surprised that an HD remake of a decade old game didn't do anything but uninspiring numbers?

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/nintendo-zelda-wii-u-is-a-system-seller/0121537

Nintendo says its HD update of GameCube classic The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker will help shift Wii U consoles.

Nintendo’s home platform has struggled for momentum, with some retailers pulling support for the machine.

But the firm is launching a number of its big brands on the console to help the ailing console.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD will be part of a special console bundle, and Nintendo hopes it can reach gamers that have never played Wind Waker.

“It is the perfect time for Zelda fans to discover Wii U,” said Roger Langford, product manager at Nintendo. “For many Zelda fans, this is the first time that they’ll discover Wind Waker and we’re treating the game as a triple-A new release.”

Nintendo hopes the remake of Wind Waker can match the success of 3DS’ update of Ocarina of Time.

Langford added: “Ocarina of Time 3D performed positively on Nintendo 3DS and we’re looking to replicate this success with The Wind Waker HD.”

Nintendo are expecting it to do big things in the west for the console.

HD remake or not it sold less than Pikmin 3 did in its first week. Zelda is a much bigger IP than Pikmin.

Well of course they'd say that; Nintendo don't know what the fuck they're doing. I meant, why is anyone normal surprised that an HD remake of a decade old game didn't do anything but uninspiring numbers?

TWW HD's sales weren't as bad as I was expecting. It's roughly on par (a bit lower, but pretty close) with other HD Remasters like the ps3 versions of MGS 2 & 3 HD and the DMC HD collection.

It was never gonna make any real difference to the Wii U's fortunes in Japan, which is why Nintendo only shipped 100K copies (not to mention that the Wii U family pack that comes with Wii Party U, NSMBU and Wii Fit U was also announced last week - so anyone with half a brain would be waiting for that pack to hit)

It's in the west where it is expected to make up the vast majority of its sales...

They didn't ship 100k. 60k was shipped simply cos that's all retailers ordered. The retailers in Japan dictate the shipment numbers.

A HD remake of Zelda is not going to save the platform in any region. Neither is Mario considering the intense competition around the same time.

The Wii U is going to be fucked for another year I think. Nintendo had their chance to get a shoe in the door, but bent over and took a shit instead. And you can easily get shut out when all you provide is a turd.

I'm starting to think the games are not the problem. The console and the gamepad are. If MK8 and Smash Brothers do nothing for the hardware then that's when you might as well call it a wrap.

We wont know for sure until they're out, but it would not surprise me if the market just does not want that additional screen.

I'm convinced though that in every region, Wii U is going to take a complete fucking battering this winter. US and EU due to the other consoles, and Japan purely because there just seems to be no games that would push it into a wider audience.

MK 8? The clue in why that won't work either is the 8. I need fresh, I need new, I've been there done that got a cupboard full of trophies and I don't need nor want to do it again.

Wii U's going to be a flounder forever. Nintendo's strategy of relying on the known franchises is to me stupid, and just working/not going to work. It'd be ok if they realised that, but I'm not sure how much they do.

Having said that, I'm interested in the WWHD in the west and how it does - I'm wondering how many new fans, or indeed kids of old fans, it could bring on board. Still it's not going to turn sales too wild in that respect, given the poor install base of the Wii U itself.

Nintendo's upcoming Wii U titles, while enjoyable, do feel like new FIFA games - iterative updates done out of necessity. I think that's why people picked up interest in Mario 3D World when the new trailer was unveiled, as it actually showed a variety of things rather than just "oh hey, a new Mario title with a new outfit".

Hopefully the rest of their games will surprise in that regards as well, but I'm not sure how much that is going to bring in new buyers.
