Could a HD re-release of Melee actually do more damage than good? Would it take all of the sting out of the release for Smash Bros, because people would essentially be getting their Smash Bros. fix? What if Melee HD turned out to be better than new Smash, haha.

Yeah, that would be a very damaging thing.

Definitely imo. It has no place here/now - maybe later as a downloadable or early on in the Wii U's life but not now with a new smash on the horizon. The only side to hold it would be that it'd feature no online, though given Nintendo's past performances it may be debatable how 'online' SSB4 is ;p

I think HD remakes are potentially a good idea; but they have to be priced appropriately - they cannot be full price retail imo. Tbh the only one that springs to my mind when Nintendo HD remakes are mentioned is SM64(possibly with the added DS content) - but it's to be argued that it's been done before already.

I'd say Fridays GAME deal of MK8 for £30 helped give it that little boost.

Wolfenstein is so much fun. Happy it's still pottering around. 13 up from 28, think that's probably down to GAME's deal, too.

I'm interested in Sniper Elite 3. Anyone else played it? Recommend it?

Wolfenstien from Amazon last week who price matched GAME. Great game!!!

Tomodachi Life and MK8 holding well. Tomodachi Life doing way better than I expected.

Is there something about Sniper Elite 3 that we should know about. Seemed a bit shovelware-ish, yet it's at the top of the charts. Is it any good? I'm guessing no?

It's getting average reviews, however:

No idea how quickly this gets old but it seems fun :p

I'm interested in it because of this,

Also, I kind of assumed Wolfenstein would be shovelware and it turns out it's awesome. So I'm trying to be a little less cynical. Same thing with Spec Ops: The Line, looked like drek but was pretty bleedin unique.

Xenoblade HD port

Don't know how I missed this before but yes. I would. So hard. If only XCX wasn't on the horizon, and there were more Wii Us about, I'd say definitely. Hell, maybe they can still do it later on - especially if work from XCX give them the ground to work with/from.

As much as I love the game, I don't think I could brace putting in 100+ hours again or however long I put in. I managed to do it recently for FFX, but I never did everything in that the first time at that was at least some 11-12 years ago.

UBISOFT SHOWS JUST HOW BAD THEIR WII U SALES HAVE BEEN

ubisoft_sales_breakdown.png

Ubisoft today announced their quarter one results for 2014. The report was dominated by news that the company’s recently released Watch Dogs has shipped eight million copies worldwide.

Sales for the first quarter of 2014-15 came to €360 million, up 374% (or 386% at constant exchange rates) compared with the €76 million recorded for first-quarter 2013-14. The first quarter sales figure was higher than the target of approximately €310 million announced when Ubisoft released its full-year 2013-14 results. The company also provided a breakdown of sales via platform and as you can see the Wii U didn’t generate very many. However, Ubisoft is still bringing out Watch Dogs to the platform later this year.

I'd say so, I hope so. I'd love for it to do well but I just can't see it happening. We'll be expected to pay full whack while it'll probably be reduced on the other platforms at that stage or they'll have some GOTY Edition announced for the others. I just can't see it ending well. If it did by some miracle do well it could help convince some third parties to come back...maybe.

WatchDogs will flop on Wii U for all those reasons. I was going to get it, I'm much less enthused now too. I expected it to be more in my face and talked about post release but it wasn't, so it's just kinda fallen away from my intentions. Does anyone know what ZombiU's sales to date on Wii U are?

According to VGCHARTZ it sold 700,000. They're notoriously inaccurate. They say Red Steel sold 660,000, the Wii's launch equivalent but I'm pretty sure it sold over 1 million units.

The thing is, it's hard to really extrapolate anything from launch games. I mean, look at that piece of shit Knack. Somehow that sold loads.

Posted

Yeah it will bomba. It will have already been out for a while on the other platforms and people would also rather play the next gen versions. Seems like a complete waste of time bringing it to the Wii U now.

Wow, much worse than I was expecting to hear. I'd WatchDogs probably won't do more than a few hundred k on Wii U given that, an utter shame :(

WatchDogs was always going to fail on Wii U.

The sales of the system aren't great, so already the userbase is small. Nintendo now have a bad reputation for not being the console to own if you want to buy "serious" games and even worse when these games are by third parties. It's very difficult for a third party to sell an "adult" game on the system (that is, a game aimed at adults, 18+), so already that is limiting the userbase even further.

Add that in with the killer punch - the game isn't even available for Wii U at the same time as others. So, if somebody does own a Wii U, they might have already bought the game for the PS4/One/PC already, especially as these systems are more powerful. If they have a PS3/360, they might have just made do and bought it on there.

The final part of all of this...where's the incentive for gamers to wait for this to hit Wii U? It's not graphically going to be better than other systems, we don't know of any other features and it will no doubt be full price when it arrives...by which time you can pick it up on other systems for cheaper if you own them.

Too many factors that go against this being a success.

- Limited market.

- A third party game in a genre that has never really done well on Nintendo systems.

- Already available on other systems, including next gen formats.

- It's arriving too late.

Nintendo should have done whatever it takes to get the game ready for release. It's too late now. The buzz has gone. Destiny is now the next big thing, the moment has passed. The game could get canned tomorrow for Wii U and nobody would care.

Guys, I think the Wii U is in trouble.

You say about the sales of the console and the userbase, but aside from the audience perception, the userbase is comparable to the other two so that's not really a fair or valid reason for it.

The rest, you are absolutely correct.

It's only comparable at this point if you look at the raw numbers. You actually need to look at how sales are trending, to the type of audience, the financial investment placed in every console by each company, as well as a whole plethora of social metrics that no one on this - or most websites - are privy to, along with myriad other factors (including, as you said, audience perception) of varying impact before saying anything is comparable with any real conviction.
