New Years Resolutions: 2013

Recommended Posts

Never really been one for New Years Resolutions as I can't abide trying to adhere to a list of things as it just ultimately leads to disappointment when I don't manage to do something. Saying that, however, last year I said I needed to be more outgoing with friends and such as I have managed that so yay!

That being said, there are a few things I'd like to achieve and/or change in 2013 so I guess they can count as resolutions. Mainly, things like cutting down on the amount of fat intake in my diet and starting to go to the gym again and get back into shape (although I'm not doing too bad as I am, it's more I'd feel more comfortable doing something a bit more substantial exercise wise). Cliched I know but those are two things I know I can stick too and do as they aren't drastic changes, which tends to be where people fall down particularly with diet.

There are a few other things, like resolve the (lack of) job situation, learn to play the guitar (this is an itch I've been meaning to scratch for some time now) and do some form of roadtrip/holiday 'adventure' with friends, that I'm looking to achieve. In a much better place mentally than I have been for ages so it all should be doable but in the end, I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing now with some slight changes and if I don't cross off these goals, it's no big issue.

Thank god I didn't make a post last year, would definitely have failed.

2013, has to be the year I get a new job. Start a career, even if it's shit.

My new year's resolution is to stop smoking but since I find that so nauseatingly cliché it makes me want to throw up, I've started today instead. 19 Hours without a cigarette so far. Longest I've ever gone is 6 days since January 2011 so I'll see how I do.

Update: Everything going well so far. It'll be 96 hours by the end of tonight without one and the cravings have been less frequent and less intense since the first 48 hours. New Years Eve was fine, although coming in from the night out and arriving home I desperately wanted one - thankfully it was 5.30am and I fell asleep without thinking about it too much.

My sense of smell has started to come back!

The world smells. :heh:

While chatting with Heather last night we were discussing our 2013 plans...

In 2012 we were set that we were going to move house, and achieved that.

We were thinking 2013 should be about doing the house up, but we managed to get the majority of it done in the 6 months we've been in the new place (kitchen just finished :) )

We've got the living room in a livable state (although we want to completely re-do it) So we've figured that 2013 we are going to have more holidays...

We've booked Spain for June, and are looking at 4 day / long weekend type breaks in Paris & Rome, Thinking one in April and one in August so during the middle of the year we'll be going on some form of break away every 2 months.

And looking to finish the year off with 10 days in New York in December.

On another note it is incredibly important for your goals to be SMART.

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Realistic

Timed

This year I want to drop my bodyfat to 10% (currently 16/17% after Christmas). Achievable but will take a lot of work. The plan is to drop to 8%, then to bulk to 12 or so, then back to 10.

Right now I'm by no means fat and I'm often called skinny, but for me, the bodyfat is too high.

I want to increase my strength all round and will continue with my Starting Strength work out that is currently going very well. I want to hit 100kg squat and dead lift for 3x5 reps (currently 60kg).

Cut down drinking. Right now its generally Friday and Saturday night. I want to cut down to either Friday or Saturday night.

I hope I don't offend any NE members here who already have children... but fuck no.

Not on either of our agendas.

Is the title meant to have that extra 's' because it has been driving me nuts.

I was wondering how long it would take people to notice.

But Odders seems to have gotten round to changing it. I'm surprised you didn't do it sooner.
