That's the word from Shin'en developer Manfred Linzner who is enjoying working with Nintendo's new console. Linzner, who worked on the WiiWare game Jett Rocket, told Official Nintendo Magazine that Wii U is a great console for developers. "The Wii U hardware has a great architecture and, most importantly, it is easy for developers to utilise its power," said Linzner. "For instance, we have a very action-heavy game with literally thousands of animated objects, but had no problems rendering the complete gameworld, twice, for the Wii U controller display in two-player mode." However, in addition to creating new titles, Linzner believes that Nintendo could also have results if the company was to re-release Wii games for Wii U. "You could easily take many original Wii titles from Retro Studios or Nintendo and release them again in HD and they would look and play better than many current titles. I believe that the most important resource in game development is the developers, rather than the actual hardware."
Cube Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 It would take a lot of work to make the Metroid Prime games look anywhere nearas good as the majority of big games on 360 and PS3.
madeinbeats Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 To be fair they did say many current titles, not many current AAA HD titles. But who knows how easy it might be to add a few extra touches of lighting, effects and shine without even touching assets (think Pikmin 3 from Wii to WiiU maybe) on the WiiU hardware; might include hardly much work at all.
Magnus Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) It took me a while to realize that Shin'en wasn't a game I'd never heard of. And if we're going to add the asterisk of "well, he didn't say which current titles Wii games would look better than," then yes, I suppose it'd be really easy to make them look better than, say, Angry Birds. But that's a really boring way to look at it. Edited June 27, 2012 by Magnus
Rummy Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Interesting idea/topic, though the cost of HD upgrade/remakes would be a major limiting factor. Having said that, HD LKS and Xenoblade, I definitely would.
tapedeck Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Jett Rocket is a stunning game that looks immense as well. I'd love a sequel to that game as it reminded me of the N64 3D games - namely Banjo and Mario64. Brilliant developers and glad they are making games for WiiU!

They're making a sequel, it's on the 3DS. http://www.siliconera.com/2011/10/11/shinen-developing-3ds-jett-rocket-sequel-for-nintendo-eshop/
Sheikah Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Evaside/vague use of language here. "HD Wii games would be better on Wii U than many current titles". By 'better' I assume he means in terms of the factor which has been upgraded, which I take as the graphics. This is so very naive, PS2 HD remakes are good but when you play them they are still obviously not comparable graphically to games from the next console tier. Visuals look a lot crisper but general textures and models look clunkier, gameplay relics such as limited numbers of enemies on screen at a time still remain, etc.
Debug Mode Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Games locked at a maximum of 576p would look better if they were made on HD capable hardware? I also heard a lack of fluids can dehydrate you! More news at eleven.
