EA confirms new Dead Space game

Likely to be announced at E3 and due for release by the end of March 2013

EA has confirmed plans to launch a new Dead Space game during the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.

The publisher referenced the title during an investor call last night when it said: "At the foundation is another year of blockbuster brands: Madden NFL, FIFA, Sim City, Medal of Honor, Dead Space, and Need for Speed as well as mobile hits like The Simpsons Tapped Out, and Bejeweled."

In a follow-up email to Game Informer, EA added: "There's no further information today but watch for several big product announcements from EA at E3 in June."

While it's yet to be confirmed, Visceral Games is widely tipped to be making Dead Space 3.

The game was seemingly first revealed last September by an Israeli news show featuring what appeared to be leaked artwork.

Shortly after, Siliconera posted multiple reports claiming to reveal details of the plot. It said Dead Space 3 will ditch the series' typical spaceship setting in favour of an icy planet called Tau Volantis, where protagonist Isaac is on a rescue mission he's reluctantly accepted because there's a warrant out for his arrest.

He'll also reportedly have a split personality, with "Shadow Isaac" taunting our hero every chance he gets. These mind games will apparently play a major role in proceedings, with Isaac's shadow self viewable as a separate on-screen character.

We all knew this was coming, but it's still nice to hear confirmation. I still need to play the second game! I just never got around to doing it.

Take all the best things about the first then replace it all with generic action sections. Then you'll have Dead Space 2.

I finished it five times. The last time I got that hooked on a single player game was Resident Evil 4. I guess it scratched the same itch; you keep playing and collect currency to upgrade weapons, which has incredible pay off in the game. Eventually though, you can blow through everything with a minimum of effort. The action is anything but generic though. It's one of the few games I can think of that actually rewards locational targeting, and which has actual physical consequences for doing so.

The world created in the Sprawl was also far more interesting than the rather industrial monotony of the Ishimura the first time around

(you get to go back to the Ishimura in Dead Space 2, in what I think is one of the finest levels I've ever played in a game).

Great game, hope Visceral can match it with the third one.

I hear things like that a lot, but Dead Space 2 doesn't really have any more action than the first game. It could certainly be improved by halving the amount of enemies you face, but that was true of the original as well.

The second game is an improvement on the first, as far as I'm concerned. It has much better pacing, whereas Dead Space had a constant sense of oppression that meant there wasn't really a chance for release; you need some exhale moments, like the save rooms in classic Resident Evil, in order to really appreciate the tenser situations.

Anyway, I'm interested to see where they take a third game. As hinted earlier I'd love to see them significantly reduce the amount of combat, making it more meaningful in the process: one enemy that could spring from anywhere at any time is far more effective than a bunch that have preset spawn points.

@The Bard, I think you should edit out that DS2 level spoiler. I'm generally of the opinion that game spoilers are fair game in threads for their sequels, but H-o-T did just say he's yet to play it so it would be a shame to ruin that particular surprise.

That's fair enough.

I'm currently playing through Dead Space at the moment but been working it around my Skyrim time and other things. This has kind of suited me due to deeply oppresive atmosphere. So basically I play a Chapter at a time up to 6 I think...

Really enjoying it though.

Weird. I just bought Dead Space 2 finally after ages of debating it. Loved the first and I've almost maxed it out so time to move on. Hopefully the 3rd will be just as good. Like the idea but I really don't want it to be too much of a copy 'The Thing'.

loved me some Dead Space 1&2 so I'm really looking forward to number 3. i think what isn't mentioned enough about these games is the sound design which is incredible .

Yes! I've been playing Dead Space exclusively with my Turtle Beach headset on and the sound is outright incredible.
