Hero-of-Time Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nintendo sees skyward sales on Black Friday Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword helped Nintendo to a successful kickoff of the holiday sales season. The new Nintendo 3DS game, Super Mario 3D Land, which landed in stores Nov. 11, has become the fastest selling portable Mario game in company history, selling more than 500,000 units since launch, says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. Meanwhile, the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, released for the Nintendo Wii on Sunday, Nov. 20, has sold 535,000 copies since its U.S. launch, making it the fastest-selling Zelda game ever, he says. These strong new releases also drove sales of Nintendo 3DS and Wii systems, Fils-Aime says. Last week's 3DS sales tripled (by 325%) compared to sales the week of Nov. 6, the week before Super Mario 3D Land debuted; the week of its debut, sales rose 49% over the previous week. The Nintendo Wii had its biggest Black Friday ever more with than 500,000 units sold just during Black Friday and the pre-Black openings at some stores, he says. Great sales all round for Nintendo. Wii did great! Not bad for a dead console. Audio
or else you will DIE Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 500,000 Wiis in one day, at this point in time, is just insane, Black Friday or not.
Agent Gibbs Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 mental news are they sure it wasn't 500k 3DS? cos for the Wii that is crazy
darksnowman Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Amazing sales numbers. Thats Nintendo's finances covered, so they can kick back and only release three games for us at the tail end of next year for us once again.
david.dakota Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Woah. That's incredible. They've got a great price point for the holiday season and Wii is still a great proposition for the general consumer. It proves the demand for Nintendo goodies is still high despite some pretty serious financials. In my opinion, they should have had a few more Selects available and should certainly ensured a new party friendly Wii title launched - but I guess that's coming from third parties, anyway. Its looking to be another bumper year for Nintendo - great stuff.
dazzybee Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Microsoft sold just under a million 360s. Now that's fucking insane!
Goron_3 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) Half a million Wii's? Jeez how on Earth have sales gone so far downhill? To think Microsoft just had the biggest ever 360 sales week is just ridiculous. edit: Woops, read that wrong, thought it was for the whole month Great Zelda sales! Edited December 1, 2011 by Goron_3
khilafah Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 why has zelda bombed in the UK? i am struggling to understand it.
James McGeachie Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110032 What he's talking about for the record (Full price, individual formats chart, since people tend to like to use these ones vs all formats all price...) I think it debuted out of the top 10 and has dropped. I can only assume "gamers" in the UK are far past the point of caring about Wii in ANY form no matter what the game. Galaxy 2 didn't sell like hot cakes going by memory either. It doesn't matter what game it is that comes out, it literally wouldnt matter if Nintendo made the best game of all time and the press were shitting themselves. The only people that will flood to buy Wii games now are the people buying Just Dance.
