Paj! Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 She's definitely putting in more effort/is more interesting than any of her contemporaries, but yeah, in her 13 minute epics, she should push it further. The music video bit was fine, but really not related to the start at all. I liked bits of the first half, but what Daft just said...she should use more interesting imagery, she still rooted in the sort of stuff Pop music has been borrowing from for decades, just presenting it slightly differently. I just think of John Waters and his use of shocking things/strange looking people and how that words...I'd bet she's a fan of his films. Her 'knowing' narration and stuff could be better too, be more LOL in the vein of Waters movies. She should look to them and things like them, truly underground stuff, for inspiration, if she wants to create a truly different aesthetic/visual identity to her contemporaries. I'd find that more interesting and truly 'boundary-pushing!!!!' combined with her born this way stuff - we've all seen dancing in city streets/exploding cars before...she does it well, but she could be better.
Retro_Link Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 (edited) I don't think she has the aim to be better than her contempories, so I don't really see the need for her to do any of the things you've mentioned. She just wants to be herself and express herself in the ways she wants to. Through this she puts across the messages she deems important and does so in the ways that works for her. It's much more natural/believable and makes the messages much more approachable for those who follow her, than her trying to forcefully 'push boundaries'. What you've mentioned is what you seem to expect from her/want her to be given her position. Edited December 4, 2011 by Retro_Link
Paj! Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm in such a The Fame mood. It's way worse than Born This Way but is fun when you give it a go. Obviously the single's are enjoyable but the album tracks are pleasant enough too. I hate the Cherry Cherry Boom Boom stuff, but you get over it.
Paj! Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Of course everything on the first album pales in comparison to The 'hums' in Heavy Metal Lover are a musical highlight of the year for me.
Aneres11 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I was on my online casino eaglecasino.com and placing a sportsbet and they had a place to bet on the list of the grammy winners! Wow how crazy is that? Wait... what? No?! Get out of here! Really??!! That is crazy shit! What is he saying
Slaggis Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Oh, and Heavy Metal Lover is supposedly the new single. Wrong choice for a single.
Aneres11 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Heavy Metal Lover is easily my favourite song off that album, but I agree I don't think it is single material. Fashion of His Love damnit Gaga!!
Paj! Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I feel like people are just a bit tired of her at the moment. Still love the album, but there were never many surefire hits on the tracklist. I think Hair would stand the most chance of success now. Meh.
Pancake Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I think Heavy Metal Lover is a good single choice. Especially compared to her past single choices from this album. But i also think she's over exposed herself. Too much and too soon. Born This Way came very quickly after Fame Monster exposure as it is (there wasn't even a break really). She just needs to take a rest, for her own sake as well! No one does their best work when they're burnt out.
Retro_Link Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) YEEEEEEEEEEEES!!! Just seen this on Facebook... Lady Gaga The Born This Way Ball will perform 110 shows around the world. The opening dates are out today, with more announcements to ensue. THE FIRST 11 OF THE BORN THIS WAY BALL TOUR DATES I NEED TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's surely gonna be on tour for a year?! Mind you Rihanna toured for most of 2011 with gaps in between. Edited February 8, 2012 by Retro_Link
Frank Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 It is exciting! What's even moreso is the stage design -- I'm really into the style of it. Very classique. Despite the criticism the "Monster Pit" is also nice & quirky. She seems to have taken Marry The Night as a cue to disappear from public consciousness which'll do her well. I'm hoping she has another single under her belt ready to unload. I need something to spam nightclubs that makes me happy! Oh! And the Jo Calderone version of the Haus of Ü fashion project has been released. It's enjoyable & lol. I like Madonna but seriously , reduct--what ?
Retro_Link Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 ^ Didn't she initially say 8 tracks were going to be released off of Born This Way? Though maybe that's changed... it always seemed too many.
Paj! Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Marry The Night was obviously the last proper single. I'd be surprised at any more released. It's floppage was probably rather disorientating for her (and unfair to the song, which is brilliant). I'm in so much more of a Madonna mood atm (in about 3 minutes will be buying Madonna tickets), but would like to see Gaga too. Glad her UK dates will be later in the year and not announced right now.
Frank Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 ^ Didn't she initially say 8 tracks were going to be released off of Born This Way? Though maybe that's changed... it always seemed too many. I don't remember how much she ever said. She probably did say 8 but she loves to troll sometimes :p I know that she plans to release videos for non-singles (Government Hooker) and do other little things with her album. I doubt she's finished with it. She also replied to one fan saying that she'll be doing something with Sheisse soon! Happiness! : D
Retro_Link Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 First European Dates added: I'm hoping for an O2 Arena / Wembley Stadium... Surely she's not doing all her London dates at Twickenham?
Paj! Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I can't go see her if she does only that London date...well if I go back to uni early I guess but meh. Would rather wait, I assume she'll do others.
Frank Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 15 September. Perfekt! I'm looking forward to it although not feeling any hype yet. I'm amazed she'll be playing the Aviva Stadium in Dublin which holds 50,000 people. Gosh.
Paj! Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I'm looking forward to it although not feeling any hype yet. It's just way too long after the album release. Especially with the relative fizzling out of the last singles, she isn't in everyone's minds at the moment. I know she probably needed a year off touring to like recover (who wouldn't?) but it wasn't the ideal time period to take a break.
Retro_Link Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Well she was still touring The Monster Ball until before the new album, so she could hardly go straight into another World Wide tour! I'd imagine she'll have some new material to start promoting come September anyway.
Hamishmash Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The only GaGa song I like is Teeth and apparently that's her most disliked?
Coolness Bears Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The only GaGa song I like is Teeth and apparently that's her most disliked? Teeth is my favourite song by her.
Paj! Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The only GaGa song I like is Teeth and apparently that's her most disliked? It was the only one on Fame Monster that felt 'different' rather than just 'good pop'. I like it. It's terribly dull live though, like 11 minutes long and drawn out.
Frank Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Teeth has always been consciously one of my favorites. It felt really weird and the type of music she "should" do. I loved how exclusive / hidden it felt too. I never heard or saw people discuss it that much. I'm always surprised it doesn't get more attention & love.
