Pancake Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Any fans? I don't really have an opinion of her, yet. Constant comparisons to Tori Amos was what made me curious, and i've just picked up her first album. She seems a bit bonkers, so should be interesting...
Razz Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I'll let Chair and Paj take it away, but before they do I want to share my love of And Dream Of Sheep. It gets me through when I've got a long taxi ride.
Ashley Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 You don't talk to the taxi driver? Rude bastard.
S.C.G Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Kate Bush is genuinely stunning, yes she is 'a bit bonkers' but she's basically famous for it and paved the way for the 'weird women' musical movement, if it wasn't for her then it's arguable that we wouldn't have many of the fantastic female artists that we have today that started their rise to fame after she became better known. As for her actual music, she's produced some amazing albums throughout her career, I was fortunate enough to pick up 'This Woman's Work' which is basically the box-set of her entire collection of albums up to and including 'The Sensual World' this is when I started to become more familiar with her works even though I still feel like I need to listen to her a lot more... just because. :p But yes, she is well worth listening to, for anyone who's a little curious I'd recommend purchasing 'The Whole Story' which is a collection of some of her most famous singles but this is still no substitute for buying her actual albums, though it does give a mere taste of what to expect from her... in a sense the compilation title is quite apt because it's not really even half of the story, barely even a third but it does indeed give a taste of this rather extraordinary artist... ...once you've had a taste though you'll probably want to try the full course, *omnomnom* she is pretty tasty afterall. >>
Paj! Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 She's the "first weird female" singer, and really set up all the others. In terms of it being accepted, and stuff. But yeah, she's brill. Hounds of Love is her best overall. Side 1 is all brilliant but kinda accessible songs, Side 2 is a kinda suite about a drowning woman or something. It's great. The Dreaming is her most experimental. I think my favourite is Aerial, her 2005 "comeback". It's so understated, and actually about everyday life. It's gorgeous. Never heard a song describing a washing machine being turned on be so beautiful. And Dream Of Sheep is one of my favourite of hers, too, Razz. So emotive.
mcj metroid Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) My favourite is this woman's work. believe she was the first to use the wireless microphone, before Madonna made it famous during her first and only tour. I'd consider myself a fan ya Edited August 19, 2010 by mcj metroid
chairdriver Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 After more than five years since her last album, Kate Bush will "likely" release new music in 2011. Following a rumour last week that the singer is finishing the follow-up to 2005's Aerial, her spokesperson confirmed a release – but not necessarily an album – is expected later this year. Thirteen exclamation points opened the post by London blog Wotyougot, declaring that Bush "will be releasing a new album in 2011" through label EMI. Although bloggers declined to reveal who told them this, they said this week that it came from "phone conversation(s) [with] reliable source(s)". Wotyougot apparently see themselves as the Wikileaks of pop. Still, blog rumours are just that – until a spokesperson returns your calls. NME received corroboration yesterday that "a release from [bush] is likely for 2011", though "nothing is confirmed yet". Bush's rep also advised that it may not be a full-length release. In 1978, Bush released her first two albums within nine months. Since then, her pace has gradually decelerated – over the last 20 years, the singer has made just two albums. Now 52, her last release was Lyra, a single recorded in 2007 for the soundtrack to The Golden Compass. So excited.
Rummy Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 It's like you've been reading my mind! For some strange reason I've gone on a massive Kate Bush binge lately, no idea why and never really been a fan, but what I've found on youtubez has grown on me a lot. Also she was born here where I live! My current favourite; There's also a placebo cover version of it that I like. Also, hounds of love;
Paj! Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Yeah, for some reason forgot she had fans on here, heard the news a while ago. Screaming at a new album. From her stunning last one: *dead*
Paj! Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 For anyone interested/who didn't already know: Kate Bush - Director's Cut Bush revisits songs from her albums The Sensual World and The Red Shoes on a new record. Out May 16th. First single (originally an album track from The Sensual World - SO foretelling at the time, considering the lyrics were written in 1988) Video starring Robbie Coltrane and Noel Fielding.
EEVILMURRAY Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Not a fan. Her voice is alright but found the songs uninspiring.
mcj metroid Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 hmm I wouldn't say there's very much artists quite like her. I'm sure artists like bjork was inspired by her for one. I could be wrong.
Aneres11 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Bumped thread. Apologies. But after reading through the above comments a few days ago and always loving Wuthering Heights after some girl sang it on Stars in Their Eyes Kids version (lol i know) I wanted to listen to more of her stuff. And I have spent the last hour doing just that. Absolutely bloody brilliant. Can totally understand how she wouldn't have been / isn't to everyones tastes but I think she is fantastic. Im only 23 so not sure on other artists in her era but surely this was ground breaking stuff back then? And in my opinion still is. Buckets of emotion in some of her songs - the kind of stuff you just do not see today. Sad really, but makes her even better. Am glad this thread was created, it gave me the push to check out her amazing work!
chairdriver Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Director's Cut is Lie me down, the weight of its greatness is too much.
mcj metroid Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 This Woman's Work '11 killed me. I agree I think it's one of her best. Love playing it on the piano myself
