Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters an action-adventure title that will be available in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures’ epic superhero feature film Green Lantern scheduled for release Summer 2011. The game will be available for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ and delivers an immersive experience for GREEN LANTERN fans that the entire family will enjoy.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by the feature film, which brings the enduringly popular DC COMICS SUPER HERO to the big screen for the first time and which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as HAL JORDAN, the newest member of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS. In the videogame players will utilize over a dozen constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring.

“Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books,†said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “The game is the first to center around DC Comics’ Green Lantern franchise and we’re excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the power of the ring with engaging gameplay.â€

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii by Double Helix Games and for Nintendo DS by Griptonite Games.

Hopefully this will be more like Arkham Asylum in terms of quality

I know nothing about Green Lantern, but I love the fact they've made a movie-style poster for the game. It looks awesome and has raised my interest somewhat.

In the same place as Dyson but love the fact that its another potentially good super hero game to play. Here's hoping with the movie still some way off its not rushed and awful!

It was just recently announced and we have no idea how long this has been in development, as far as we know they might have recently started giving it about a year in development.

Which can be called rushed.

I think more needs to be said about the developer, their current track record is a bit weak.

Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until we see any footage but one thing that does worry me a bit is that Griptonite Games have only done mostly handheld games before this.

Griptonite Games are only doing the DS version

It's Double Helix that are doing the home console versions, and their recent history aint that great

I don't think theres any evidence that it'll be rushed.

Just a quick game: Think of the genuinely good games from movies and comic books etc. Here's my list:

Batman AA

Goldeneye

Transformers (PS2)

What they have in common: none were made to schedule with a movie. In Edge, they got an 8, a 9 (considered a missed 10) and a 9

on the other hand, lets have some shit ones

Superman Returns

Spider-man 3

Transformers

Iron Man

Most of them are considered some of the worst games ever reviewed by Edge. They were all made to coincide with movies

This game doesn't have a snowball's chance.

Fuck you! X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Uncaged Edition shits on your face!!!

Best film game ever.

On a side note, Edge can suck it.

OK the demo for that was ok. Never said my list was a full showing though did I? ;)

The odds aren't good, though. Which is a shame because a good Green Lantern game would be so unbelievably sick it's actually untrue. In the series you have Lanterns in their thousands flying through black holes in to alternative dimensions, battling sentient city planets, conversing with living forest worlds, wielding the most powerful weapons in the universe and doing stuff like saving entire solar systems from destruction.

It's crazy sci fi space opera on a grand scale and it's just brilliant

this game will be a guy making big green fists and punching robots. Watch it happen.

Hahaa! Just messing. I do love that game, though. It has a much better story than the film. Obviously that isn't hard...then again, for a game, it was pretty impressive.

Also, I heard the demo sucked.

I suspect this will be a turd. Hopefully not.

I liked the demo actually, thats why I got the game, and I absolutely loved the game.

So yeah I don't think there's evidence that it will be rushed, just simply because we really don't know how long they've been working on it.

I don't know how well GL would actually translate to a game though. The combat is so ridiculously non standard in the comic, it would seem pretty impossible.

I'd add Transformers: War for Cybertron to that list. Great game.

Green Lantern is, potentially, the best comic book hero for videogames.

This, however, will be a rushed movie game and be totally average.

You mean in terms of mechanics? I thought Starbreeze's The Darkness operated on a fairly similar premise, that Jacky could fashion the darkness into practically anything he wanted. Unfortunately, that concept is almost impossible to translate to videogames, and was limited to about 4 pretty mundane superpowers. And we're talking about a fantastic studio here, one that has released some exxceptional games. In fact, the idea of infinite creative possibilities has been massively disappointing wherever you look, for example the Scribblenauts games, whose range of possibilities was enormous, but this was only possible because of the logistical limitations of the engine; your character could barely do anything, and the games novelty only went as far as watching Cthulhu murder god in a graphic depiction of my childhood dreams. Anyway, this game will suck. Probably.

Although...I've developed a theory that a videogame movie tie-in's quality is inversely proportional to the quality of the film. Which, judging from the Green Lantern trailer, makes me hugely hopeful for the game.
