Apparently, Apple has pulled apps with overtly sexual content, even a swimwear retailer called Simply Beach! http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/apple-s-stance-on-adult-apps-is-indefensible-672642 When did a woman in a bikini become offensive? Come to think of it, when did a naked woman become offensive? I presume iPhones can access pornography on the web, so this just seems crazy if it's true?
Nolan Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Pretty sure it's true, heard about it on the radio yesterday morning. Rather silly of Apple, but that's just the way they are. They play by their own rules that they make up as they go.

IMO, an app that's just a bunch of pictures shouldn't be available on the app store, it should be a website. The quality and organization is something that Apple really needs to sort out. Demo's being included on the same page as Apps that are actually free is just ridiculous, but I'm getting off topic. Its also possible that this isn't because of their own policy, but because of some law that they can't ignore, just a thought. Regardless, this is barely relevant when you consider the serious human rights violations regarding censorship in countries like Australia, and China.

I wasn't worried about it from a human rights perspective, I just thought it was of interest from a consumer point of view if Apple are getting silly about Apps these days.

They want it to be used in businesses and schools, and I suppose having those apps available to kids wouldn't really have been okay... Although I don't necessarily agree with the decision, I also think there are a lot of completely pointless apps on the app store, so if they're cutting down on some of them that's fine by me!

They are somewhat responsible for what goes on it.

Emasher Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) I thought iPhone OS had parental controls to lock out 17+ apps. The schools would already be censoring their internet connection. Usually this is done on a central server, rather than on the actual computers that students have access to, so every machine on the network will be restricted. Although there are some very easy ways around this (Proxies being the simplest one). As a side note, you wouldn't believe some of the stuff school divisions (or whatever they call them in the UK) censor. Edited February 24, 2010 by Emasher

Although the article states from an Apple representative that it will "not be any time soon".

Unless you're up for a sly wank over your phone at work then why does it matter if they don't put some crappy apps up. Google 'breasts' on your iPhone if its that big of a deal. I'd understand if people were pissed off if Apple rejects the Opera browser, but I don't see why it matters if this crap isn't on there.

Creative people should be able to use whatever outfits they like in their Apps/games without someone deleting it. What an insult (if true)! Emasher Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I don't see apple rejecting Opera. There are other browsers available on the app store already actually, just not any of the big ones. In all honesty, people aren't going to stop ,developing for the platform just because they're restricted in such a way. The ESRB has always given games with adult content an Ao rating making it so such games can't be sold in stores (just online), but that hasn't changed the fact that game developers still support consoles the most (in general). Developers will go where the user base is, and right now its clearly on the iPhone. Apps that are just slideshows shouldn't be available in the store anyway, stuff that could be done as a website like that shouldn't be clogging up the app store.

The majority will be the apps I was talking about. This just comes across to me as people jumping on Apple because they have something else they can make a big deal out of.

I can imagine there are a load of rubbish "porno" apps on there, which would be completely understandable if Apple took them down. I am not angry with Apple, it's just that I found the article surprising and thought it may be of interest. When someone wants to depict skimpy clothing or even nudity, it is not always for sexual gratification, but sometimes to achieve a certain look or appreciate the human body. To me, as long as it's not vulgar or pornographic, it's not offensive. : peace:
