SpinesN Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4465514.stm Whats wrong with that picture In other news kinda sucks to see profits going down for nintendo I hope the rev turns that around for them.
trisha Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 thats how the controller looked before the machine came out. all the prelaunch shows etc showed that layout. so the bbc just used the publicity shots from e3 etc before it was released.
scubahood Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 the classic controller forgot all about that one
Hellfire Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Besides the fact that this is old news, it's also horrible journalism. Let's forget that Nintendo is making much more profit than Sony and Microsoft. Hell, let's forget that one of their consoles is coming to an end and that they're investing in a console that isn't out yet, meaning the cash isn't returning. Yeah, you rock BBC.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I completely forgot about that old design, I remember the hoo-hah about the changing of the B button.
Sabre Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 The BBC technology section is full of innacurate reporting for example... Nintendo has joined forces with McDonald's to offer free wireless internet access in the US for its DS handheld games console. The service means McDonald's customers will be able to play selected DS titles against other gamers around the globe. Rivals Sony and Microsoft already offer online gaming on their game consoles. Nintendo's online gaming service is due to be launched in the US on 14 November, and then in Europe on 25 November. 1) The GameCube has 3 online games - PSO 1, 2 and 3. In the UK it went online (second to the dreamcast) before Xbox Live and PS2 Online. 2) This is about Handhelds and not Consoles. Microsoft doesn't have a handheld system.
dabookerman Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 apparently not making as much profit as before is a catastrophic thing, just for you kids out there...that means nintendo are still making money, and a shit load of it at that
The Peeps Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 It's terrible how Nintendo only makes the news when something bad can be said about them.

Yeah, you rock BBC. yeah! what a stupidly basic understanding of the business. sony is being hammered by switching from analogue to digital technologies, where things like large screen display technology moving faster than sales can repay r&d. and microsoft is hit with a changing climate for its software and fashion. if only nintendo made its money from just games, and if only ms and sony did the same then you would be able to compare. but you are comparing a pub chain to tescos to news corp as if they were all the same as for the console coming to the end, which one isnt! the xbox is dead, a new model is here, yet the old one is still selling at £95 ! unlike the ps2 which has been out far longer than the cube, always been far more expensive than the cube and has sold 5x the number... and the cube is £25 in some shops, ones that actually dumped it 2 years ago and nobody really knows when the next machine is coming. it could be a year from now, yet its already £25 (the xbox has been replaced and is still 4x that price)... what a daft post of yours.
Josh64 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I'd never seen that old controller, The B button looks like its in a better place. BBc are crap when it comes to games.

Actually, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that I'm comparing Nintendo to Microsoft and Sony's gaming divisions, since we are talking about videogames after all. It's pretty fucking obvious that by the end of a generation before releasing a new console, profits will fall, unless you have a great lineup, which Nintendo and Sony don't at the moment. That's a perfectly logical explanation for the drop in profits, which the article failed to mention. The point (that you totally missed) is that they make sound like this is a huge, unexpected thing, but in fact it isn't. What a daft post of yours.
trisha Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 sorry, thought you gave profit figures. were they from just the games divisions, or was i right to think you were saying what i thought you were?

No need to prove yourself, especialy with something noone is going to bother to read, or care about.
trisha Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 you did. case proven what needs proof? currys are selling the cube for £25. the xbox is being replaced in a few days yet is still £95. the revo is coming out? no one knows. or are you saying they are lies? idiot.
SpinesN Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Ummmm.... all I wanted to bring attention to was the buttons as I found it mildly amusing :p
Sabre Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Another BBC fuckup: "Microsoft's new Xbox 360 - the first of the 'third generation' games consoles - has gone on sale in the UK. " How is it "Third Generation"? Gaming didn't begin with the PS1 era. Its either the Fifth or Seventh Generation, depending how you count it...
demonmike04 Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 The new machines will offer features such as larger hard drives, improved wide-screen graphics, CD and music players, internet and wireless connections, and innovative control pads. ALL of these new consoles pads are innovative? 360 and PS3's innovations are from 2 generations ago, and copied from Nintendo. The only controller other than Nintendo's I can applause is the 360's, very nice, sleek and very comfortable. Sony, weres YOUR innovation? The innovation to make your controller so uncomfortable and horrible looking that it kills off the gaming population? This profit drop was obvious to happen at the end of gamecubes life span, it was struggling through its life any way, it just wasnt popular enough. And its coming to its end, only a few big titles left or maybe less, and soon to meet its end when revolution hits. Apart from gamecube's problem, Nintendo are still getting big from the Handheld, the popularity of the new Gamebay Micro and the phenomenal success of DS will surely keep Nintendo safe from dropping out. The profit drop IS NOT currently a problem, it will be if Revolution follows gamecubes foot steps.
Cube Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Now to look at this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4457404.stm X-Box 360 All games made for the console will run in this new widescreen graphical format As far a im aware, using HD if up to the developer. is the biggest leap forward for games graphics since the first home 3D games in 1995. Its even less a leap as from N46 to GameCube.... The main difference between Xbox 360 and other next generation consoles is the fact that it is designed to be a completely connected experience; from simple things like wireless controllers and wireless internet connectivity, to the killer feature of the Xbox 360 world, Xbox Live. Um...the other 2 have those features... The console is designed to connect seamlessly with all MP3 players, video cameras and other media devices. Right, so the 360 will connect to the PSP? The games available in the first three months of the Xbox 360's life are some of the best ever created Have they looked at any reviews? Project Gotham Racing 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Gears of War and Kameo are only some of the highlights. Replace "some" with "only" PS3 Here, finally, was a games machine capable of pumping out the kind of eye-watering visuals you would normally associate with high-end special effects used in movies. Right, so it has more power than supercomputers? To really get the most out of the PS3, you are going to need to get involved with high definition TV. Wait, wasnt HD the MAIN improvement from the current gen, yet now you talk about it as it doesnt matter that much... Further down the line, the suggestion is that you will be able to use the PSP's network browsing functionality to log onto your PS3 remotely Like connecting to handhelds hasnt been done before... Revolution Nintendo's Revolution is undoubtedly the most exciting console of the three next generation machines. Finally, they're talking some sence. While the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 can offer improved graphics and sound, Nintendo, with their amazing new controller, are promising to change the way you actually play games forever. Um...Revolution offeres improved graphics and sound too... Other than that, the Revolution part is great. They even say that same but prettier isnt enough.
