flameboy Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 As I said in another thread recently got my N64 plus OoT, Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark, but hail the lord today whilst rummaging in the loft I found the rest of my games! Some N64 joy is coming my way...just need to pick up a couple of memory cards (super cheap on ebay ) plus a scart cable and I am set! PS Anyone want a copy of V-Rally99? Seem to have 2 copies! Sure some sort of trade could be sorted for something else...
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Aha, awesome dude. Perfect Dark, Majora's Mask AND Ocarina of Time. Three of the greatest games ever conceived. Edit: You do have an expansion pak...right?

Edit: You do have an expansion pak...right? Yep it's still in there...for some reason thought it might have gone missing...One game I can't seem to find is Goldeneye it must be somewhere... I will list the other games later but its a mighty collection so the unexpected boost of my brother giving it back after all these years plus finding the other games has made for a good day all round
dwarf Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing.... Gems! Didn't really get on with Goldeneye but still had great moments on it. OoT likewise but maybe because I was so young.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Dude, what sorta games have you got there? Please tell me F Zero X is one of them. I've got a feeling Mission: Impossible is another. Don't ask why, but I gotta feeellling.

Don't ask why, but I gotta feeellling. Shit F-Zero X is another game missing! So that makes F-Zero and Goldeneye and also noticed DK64 isn't here! I never owned Mission Impossible although I did rent it even though it was awful... Here is the list of games; Zelda OoT Majora's Mask Conkers Bad Fur Day Perfect Dark Mickey's Speedway USA Super Mario 64 Extreme XG2 Robotron 64 Armorines 1080 Star Wars Shadows of the Empire Wayne Gretzky's Hockey F1 World Grand Prix NBA Courtside Turok 3 Blast Corps ISS 64 Turok Rage Wars Top Gear Rally 2 San Francisco Rush V Rally 99 (x2 wierd!) South Park Chef's Love Shack Lylat Wars WWF No Mercy Wipeout 64 Ridge Racer 64 Jet Force Gemini Turok Dinosaur Hunter International Track and Field Aerofighters Assault Duke Nuken 64 Bio Freaks WWF Warzone World Cup 98 (FIFA) Body Harvest Banjo Kazooie Mario Party 2 And that's it..so a few classics, a few hidden gems and few absolute shitters...
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Bio Freaks catches my eye. Any good? It sounds...amazing, haha. Also, no F Zero X AND no Mission: Impossibleeeee. You lose, dude. Mission:Impossible was great. Complicated controls for the own.

Mission:Impossible was great. Complicated controls for the own. Bio Freaks is awesome its beat em up with mental amounts of gore and limp ripping and each of the characters has a gun as one of their arms if not both and the characters can all (I think) fly! I know I'm gutted about F-Zero definitely had it...Didn't enjoy Mission Impossible tbh...remember renting that and South Park the shitty shooter one weekend.

That reminds me of the girl in No More Heroes who shoots you with her prosthetic leg. Question: Is South Park really, really painfully slow? With movement, frame-rate and so forth? I had it on the PC, and it may be that my computer was awful at the time, but it was unplayable.
flameboy Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 It did have a dodgy framerate and a ton of fog and pop up...the Mario Party rip off Chef's Love Shack is sooooo much better.

You see, it's running a lot faster there than it did on my computer. My computer was bad at the time, mind. However, the game itself was still aids. But, I did want South Park Rally! Never got to play it, but it looked ok...

Nicktendo Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) Cracked my N64 out today had an absoulte blast on Top Gear Rally, Cruis'n USA and Excitebike. Yes, I love my racing games. Top Gear Rally (imo) is still great by today's standards, the framerate is solid, the graphics are ok and while the handling is challenging but very rewarding. The other 2 ain't aged so well. Perfect Dark also hasn't aged brilliantly (framerate wise). But it amazed me at how ahead of its it was. REAL TIME LIGHTING FFS! It does things Xbox 360 game developers are just too lazy to do. The level design and music are superb. I finished the whole single player campaign in just over an hour all the while I remembered just how good FPS's used to be before they were whored to death on the 360. Multiplayer online? Pah! nekunando Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I agree.. Top Gear Rally is one of my favourite raicing games, it's fantastic Excitebike 64 was amazing too though and I bring it out now and again (though it is difficult to get good at it again ) I love all the modes in Excitebike 64 (Hill Climb was great fun in multiplayer : peace:)
darksnowman Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 The South Park FPS was nothing special but it was pretty cool despite all the fog because it was South Park (which I liked at the time!) and because the controls were lifted straight from Turok 2, so you were guaranteed a game that played solidly enough.
flameboy Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 I've got TGR2, wasn't as highly rated as the original though was it? Anyway got a SCART cable and memory card ordered off ebay...both been posted so with any luck...might end up having to get another memory card cos they fill up quick...
nekunando Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 TG Rally 2 wasn't received quite as well as Top Gear Rally.. but it was a completely different style and I loved it aswell ..it was very hard though : peace:
flameboy Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 Rally genre another thats not really catered for at the moment except for Dirt really....Used to be tons...guess off road racers like Motorstorm and Pure and the like have kinda taken over...
tapedeck Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) I loved Top Gear Rally! I remember the initial graphics unveil...It looked amazing and the final title didn't look anything like the Silicon Graphics they had running on the workstations. But it still handled perfectly. They really nailed analogue control. The game got better with more unlocks too (faster and funny!). Some of the tracks were amazing too. The jungle reflections looked brill and although there was a lot of fog (ala a lot of early N64 games -TUROK!), it was as smooth as butter and some of the music was brilliant! I also liked MRC...Was likeable. Nothing special but it was ok. Then there was TGR2 which WAS great and solid too. V-Rally was great though. A proper rally game. But...for me TGR just had an air of quality about it. Top Gear Overdrive was crap though. (Completely diff. studios for all 3 I'm sure.) Ahhh...I could talk about the N64 all day. TGR Desert stage music: (it's immense - ignore fanfare at beginning) Audio Edited April 15, 2009 by tapedeck
nekunando Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I've said it before and I'll say it again.. I remember that there were complaints that the N64 didn't have enough quality racing games back in the day, but I completely disagree. For me, the N64 has been my favourite console for that genre. Top Gear Rally Top Gear Rally 2 V-Rally 99 Ridge Racer 64 World Driver Championship Excitebike 64 Mario Kart 64 Diddy Kong Racing F-Zero X Wave Race 64 1080 Snowboarding F1 World Grand Prix Then you can include Multi Racing Championship, Top Gear Overdrive, Beetle Adventure Racing and GT 64 which are also decent enough.. The N64 is, to me, without doubt the best console that was ever released and I can't see it being beaten. A fantastic console, a fantastic contoller and, most importantly, fantastic games Glad you're back enjoying it, flameboy : peace:
flameboy Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 Yeah it is one of the best consoles out there without a doubt and for me it is the generation of so many of many of Nintendo's greatest moments and best iterations in their leading franchises.

Top Gear Raly was just superb, I spent all last night playing it and there's so many little details I'd forgotton about. The weather system and how it affects handling, there is a physical damage model (doesn't affect how you drive though, like in TGR2). As mentioned, the reflections in the jungle level, Creating your own designs on cars! This game was way ahead of its time and pulled everything off so well. Boss Games went on to make World Driver Championship which was also excellent stood up superbly next to Grn Turismo on the PS1. The N64's most realistic racer with an abundance of tracks and beautiful graphics. I've never played TGO and I'm not as keen on TGR2, despite it's excellent random track generator which meant there was unlimited tracks on the game, superb. MRC was absolutly diabolical. Only 3 tracks and 1 car that you could actually drive successfully. By far the worst xmas present I ever did recieve. Roadsters Trophy was a fun little game. Beetle Adventure Racing was my personal favourite simply because of the stunning track design and massive challenge it presented in getting 100 points on every level. Plus the multiplayer battle mode was as good as if not better than Mario Kart 64. Ahhh so many great memories of racing games. One thing that I've noticed and that really bugs me about the next-gen is the real lack of creativity that's apparent in most 360 and PS3 racers. All developers seem to want to do nowadays is create the most realistic simulations of real-life circuits or cities. After playing through some of these games again the wholly original circuit and location designs really stand out as something much more memorable and fun to play instead of driving through London and trying to sopt a Pizza Hut or Jessops at the side of the road. Beetle Adventure Racing and World Driver are 2 games that stand out in my opinion. On the one hand BAR uses inspirations from various places i.e the Mediteranian for the volcano level with picturesque Itallian villages, sandy beaches and the heart of an active volcano. Obviously it's completely unrealistic but is so memorable and fits in well with the feel of the game. Then you have World Driver, a die hard simulation which takes a few unique looking countries where the designers have created original tracks based around the 'look' and 'feel' of the country. They don't map them to real roads, they design their own circuits around their own landscape and architecture which fits in with the country's image. This way they can design whatever tack they want. I always thought that this was something that was missing from the next-gen, where the focus on realism goes too far. The N64 was the last bastion of immagination in serious racing games with tracks that were designed from scratch rather than copied down to the last detail. Edited April 16, 2009 by Nicktendo
flameboy Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 My SCART cable showed up...things still more blurred than I remember but looks great compared to the RF cable...Now finding the time amongest all my other games to actually start on some N64 goodness...think will give TGR2 a start... Strange Cookie Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Nice! That's an impressive list, and a very pleasant Easter-surprise! My girlfriend is moving over to my place soonish, and she's bringing along a N64 is perfect condition. Not too many games, though: Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie (which I got for her a while back. Nothing says 'I love you' more than classic retrogames! Thank you, eBay!). It's getting pretty crowded under my television. It's hard, but something gonna have to go. It'll be my least played console: Xbox360. I play a lot of PS3 and Wii, and the SNES... Well, it's a SNES for crying out loud! You got to have one of those, right? Crap. Just remembered. She has a NES somewhere too...
