david.dakota Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 (edited) New firmware for Wii available NOW. Ver 4.0E. Noticable features. Seperate SD card menu to launch channels- channels do not appear on Wii Menu. Not the 'one click' we were promised, its two. Transfer from SD to memory just a few seconds (based on Cubello). An improvement. Save shop channel downloads direct to SD. Shop channel DOES NOT recognise SD data, claiming any title saved to SD is 'downloadable'. However, if you attempt to download, the system then checks and prohibits it. WiiSpeak 2.0 available. No obvious additions in lobby- perhaps they're available in chat? Patch Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 New firmware for Wii available NOW. WiiShop Channel confirms you need the update to recieve the new Shop. Really? Timed to coincide with the GDC Keynote?
ShadowV7 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Hows the transfer times? Are the points changed to Nintendo points for DSiWare?
david.dakota Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Still Wii Points. 'Virtual Console Arcade' titles added to shop
Ren of Heavens Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Old Nintendo arcade titles perhaps, like Donkey Kong.
Serebii Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Old Nintendo arcade titles perhaps, like Donkey Kong. Thats it exactly. There's four titles I've never heard of on it
Gizmo Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 If it was as simple as a firmware update to make games launchable off the SD Card, why has it taken this long to do?
david.dakota Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Old Nintendo arcade titles perhaps, like Donkey Kong. Namco Bandai titles Anyone tried out the transfer times? Speedy. Cubello took 3 or so seconds to load from SD.
Serebii Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 From IGN's coverage of the GDC keynote "9:54 a.m.: Loads Zelda II VC off an SD card. Loads quickly, seems pretty seamless. We approve. " If it was as simple as a firmware update to make games launchable off the SD Card, why has it taken this long to do? It wasnt simple. Apparently they had to rewrite the entire OS for it
dazzybee Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 So can you put CHANNELS on the SD card too or just VC and WiiWare games? The channels alone still fill up the internal memory. Good news though.
ssj Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 just updating mine now, im glad nintendo hasn't messed europe around with this update
Emasher Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 So can you put CHANNELS on the SD card too or just VC and WiiWare games? The channels alone still fill up the internal memory. Good news though. Yes. You can. Including the Homebrew Channel. Though I haven't tried to launch it yet.
ShadowV7 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I'll download this once the HBC is in the clear.
Emasher Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I'll download this once the HBC is in the clear. HBC Fails to launch.
Ganepark32 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Updated and can confirm that the loading of VC titles from the SD card is fast. Sonic 3 loaded up really fast and Sin and Punishment took about 10 or so seconds. Not too bad. Only problem was the S&P needed 291 blocks of internal memory to load and that's why Sonic 3 got moved over to the SD card.
Helmsly Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 yeah this is awesome, I've put half my games on the SD card menu already. you need to have the blocks that game reqires on your Wii system memory free to play them and it's taken my largest Wiiware games about 15 seconds to start up so far
Emasher Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 If you put all your big games on the SD card, I don't see having enough blocks as a problem really. The Move Button on the Data management screen is also a nice addition, although one that should have been available from day one. All in all, really impressed with this so far, now lets just hope an HBC update comes within a week as usual.
marcel Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 anyone tried to put the huge savefile from brawl onto the sdcard? Did it load the savedata?
Helmsly Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 anyone tried to put the huge savefile from brawl onto the sdcard? Did it load the savedata? If I remember right, Brawls save file itself can't be copyed. Also I think SD card menu is just for channels but I'm not 100% certain on that.
