I'd like to take this moment to talk to you all regarding taxes...

..and how stupid they are...I just thought other people were hit by Alistair Darling's retarded policies...but my accountant sent me my tax return to sign a week or so ago and I found it today

I owe the government £1,600 just for the 2007-2008 Tax year...I find this incredibly ridiculous...just last year it would have been half that...HALF and I dont even earn much.

It's ridiculous nowadays...everyone gets benefits except for the single childless white young male...we get bent over backwards and shafted just because they need funding for their bloody retreats and briefcases and for them to make me pay for the people too lazy to get off their asses and get a job while everyone else gets free money just because they're dumb enough to have sex at 13 and get pregnant with 7 different kids from 8 different dads.

I should probably stop ranting now...but I'm majorly pissed off about this...its a few months worth of money gone down the drain

Sigh...

Blergh...

Tax hasn't changed much over the last few years for most people - you must be one of the people getting stung by the abolition of the 10% tax band, if you earn not loads. But that was a Brown thing, not Darling. If you earn so little have you tried claiming Working Tax Credits? You can check your eligibility on entitledto.

I'm the same as Serebii, its exactly how he calls it. If you're single, white and male with no children there are literally no benefits what so ever. I'm not entitled to anything at all.

You're entitled to earn a living by having a job.

I hate all this whinging about not being entitled to anything. Benefits are for people who need them. At the end of the day, there are a ridiculous amount of people claiming them because they can't be arsed get work and would rather milk the system, but don't complain because you have a job and are earning your own living.

Many people would love to be in that situation.

and on topic:

Taxes - at the end of the day they are a necessary evil. Some people get stung more than others as there really is no 100% fair and equitable system for implementing them. I don't know much about the UK tax system but if the Irish tax system is anything to go by it's too confusing to understand.

Is there a citizens info place you could go to try get information about the taxes you owe or even speak to your accountantant if you feel you are being overtaxed?

Single childless white young male? Are you trying to tell me there's free money out there for me for not being white? Cos you know, if it's not the case, then don't really bring race into it. It's unneccessary, and serves little positive purpose.

I can't really comment on the Tax matter however, as I'm currently working little enough that I don't get taxed(I filled in one of them forms to tell them not to tax me too) but I'm at about half my allowance now. What DOES annoy me is when they tax me on my bank interest, I still need to reclaim some from the tax year just gone, but the forms and processes just tend to confuse me alot, they really don't make it easy to get your own money back.

Tax is absolutely vital and important, people who complain about are people who don't understand it ;)

And you should go freelance, you can claim everything off your tax!!

Like Joe Biden says 'Paying taxes is a patriotic thing to do' which i would agree with if the money weren't wasted so recklessly

I don't mind tax's, its just as soon as i get a payrise in work, the sly t**ts decide it will be best to increase the amount of tax i pay. Don't they get enough money as it is or do they want to continue buying eyebrow dye for Alistar Darling (don't say no-one noticed) amongst other stupid things.

And how do they show they don't have much money, use an old tatty breifcase for the budget. I swear that was in good condition when Gordon Brown used it

As said earlier, if the tax money was managed better and not used to give benefits to retards who wreck their lives and cant be arsed to work, then it'd be ok and they'd be lower

Like Class 4 National Insurance. Labour snuck that in to get even more cash...

Then you need a better accountant :) What do you do?

The fact that taxes aren't spent wisely is another matter altogether, and people who scam benefits is just media sensationalism. Whats a better story - 'Man Can Work But Still Claims Gets More Money From Benefits Due To Having 7 Kids' or 'Disabled Person Gets Disability Allowance'

My point being, we only hear about the shit in the world, thus perpetuating the myth the world is fucked up and unbearable!

I think more people should just concentrate on their own lives and live by your own set of morals. As soon as we start refusing to do shit (like pay taxes) because we dont think other people deserve the benefits then everything actually will turn to shit!

Everything is contagous - scum breeds scum, good breeds good, act like a cunt on the road, others will follow, smile at everyone you meet and they'll smile at others :)

I pay about 300ish in taxes and national insurance.

As to the comments about the single white childless male - uh - I'm not entitled to anything as a single white childless female! Besides - benefits are only for people that need it. If I lived on my own I would struggle by but I'd probably cope.

I get waaay more back than I pay in taxes. My medications are £180 per week. Probably just short of what I earn completely. This is why I thank my lucky stars that I live in this country where I get my medication for free.

Ssshhhhh, you're not allowed to be positive about living here. It doesn't fit with the media driven cynical attitude everyone seems to have adopted!

I had my cynical attitude before the media told me I should

£1600 per year , about £30 per week.

Do you have an education? Paid for by taxes.

Do you get rubbish removed from your street? Paid for by taxes.

Have you ever been treated for an illness or disease? Paid for by taxes.

Do you live in a relatively safe country, where you are allowed to pursue your own goals? Paid for by taxes.

Do your relatives get looked after if they are sick? Paid for by taxes.

Would you be able to survive if you were suddely struck ill and unable to work? Paid for by taxes.

You are entitled to a fair bit.

Black people don't get extra money for being black. Women don't get extra money for being women.

Anyone who thinks that single, white males in Britain are an oppressed, voiceless underclass is wrong. At best.

Not allowed to be positive? I have a better life because of the medication and care that so many specialists provide me.

I couldn't afford health insurance/medication myself, even without paying tax.

I'm tempted to refuse to pay for my medication as we have to here...then I will get close to death and be able to sue the government for attempted manslaughter

Actually, council tax pays for that....

I was being sarcastic, I love living in this country and wouldn't swap it for anywhere else; winds me up people slagging it off all the time.
