Charlie Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 OK guys, who's been to see it then? I'll be the first to put up my hand and say I went to see it. Went yesterday with my wee sister (6) and wee cousin (7) because I'm the only one in the family to have seen the other 2 films too (an old friend encouraged me to watch them with her) and I have to say, it isn't actually as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Songs are all enjoyable, incredibly cheesy as you would expect from a HSM film but some of it is pretty funny (don't think it's meant to be though). Great atmosphere in the cinema with loads of young children being there standing up and dancing at the end (Note: I did not take part in this). Sooooo, anyone else going to see it? *Dials 999 and asks for fire service to deal with the inevitable flames*
Gizmo Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I would rather eat my own faeces. Scratch that, I'd eat other peoples too if it meant not having to go to it.
Slaggis Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I fucking loved it! It was rather different to the previous two in terms of how it looked. Some of the choreography was fantastic, whilst some of it was utterly hilarious. Just like Killthenet said, it sucks you in and you cannot help but enjoy it. The Times review basically called it this generations grease, and then compared one of the numbers to Gene Kelly. (Like "The Boys Are Back" and "I Want It All"). Obviously not the best film ever, but come on. It's a funking enjoyable one, no doubt.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I haven't seen the 3rd one yet, but I did enjoy the other two. It's not the best films I've seen, but they accomplish what they're trying to accomplish, and they're just so cheerful and feel-goody. It's the film world's answer to light reading.
D_prOdigy Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I would rather eat my own faeces. Scratch that, I'd eat other peoples too if it meant not having to go to it. We'll pair up and swap.
Charlie Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 I would rather eat my own faeces. Scratch that, I'd eat other peoples too if it meant not having to go to it. Elaborate please. Why don't you want to see it? I've just been reading a few reviews of the film from big newspapers and I have to say I'm very disappointed in them. All of them seemed to set out to slate the film for the start and not reviewing it for what it is; a feel-good, children's film from Disney. The Guardian were the worst, their first 2 paragraphs didn't actually say anything about the film but just said how bland it is.

Paj! Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Only seen the first one, and technically "seen" most of the second one, but the sound was off...so yeah. Not particularly interested in this. I lol'd in the trailer, when all the crowd puts a red card above their head, and Vanessa Hudgens rises in a way that I'm sure is meant to be emotional, but her singing just cracked me up. The fact the entire audience hide under red paper to allow her to sing. .... shutup
Tellyn Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Seen the other two, didn't enjoy them really. I don't really fancy the idea of going to the cinema and putting up with young children singing everything word for word.
Slaggis Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Seriously. Your friends don't know that your bi? Sweet jesus, fuck off. You're making yourself sound like a complete douchebag. What does watching a film have to do with who you have sex with? So, anyone that enjoys hsm is bi/gay? Of course, how did I not realise this before. Also, you've said that to me before. Why bother repeating yourself? Yes actually, they do. Seen the other two, didn't enjoy them really. I don't really fancy the idea of going to the cinema and putting up with young children singing everything word for word. I was expecting the same thing to happen, but it actually didn't..well, until the credits were about to roll anyways. Elaborate please. Why don't you want to see it? I've just been reading a few reviews of the film from big newspapers and I have to say I'm very disappointed in them. Wow, I've read a fair few reviews in newspapers/magazines and most seemed to love it. The Times had nothing but praise for it, and so did the Mirror.
D_prOdigy Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I knew this thread was going to get defensive. Just wasn't sure how strong how soon.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 The Guardian were the worst, their first 2 paragraphs didn't actually say anything about the film but just said how bland it is. So saying how bland it is they're not saying anything about the film? What were they saying was bland?
Charlie Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 So saying how bland it is they're not saying anything about the film? What were they saying was bland? Nothing, that's the thing. Just that it was bland.
ReZourceman Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm a straight male, so no, have not seen it.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Nothing, that's the thing. Just that it was bland. The film. But they weren't saying anything about the film. ?
Guest Jordan Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm a straight male, so no, have not seen it. My thoughts exactly...
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Guys, have we not learned anything from the recent discussion in the sexuality thread? Gender roles are defined by society, but we don't need to adhere to them. Sure, boys/men are not often interested in cute feel-good films, but that doesn't mean they have to be gay to be interested. Males can be very much in touch with their soft/feminine side without being gay.
Dante Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 i never seen HSM films but i have seen Grease. HSM is the new version of grease for the young ones.
ReZourceman Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 (I was just joking, to clarify my feelings) I have nothing against it or people who want to see it. Ive been judged enough in my life to make any accusations like that.

LazyBoy Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I was thinking about to a massive post about how the idea of this film makes me shiver with fear and how I think it represents everything that's wrong with the modern American sub-culture, but I got work to do.......ha, no, seriously now i'm gonna go watch some porn.
Solo Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Males can be very much in touch with their soft/feminine side without being gay. Are you in touch with your soft/feminine side?
chairdriver Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm not against it, BUT Everytime I have to usher people into the cinema to watch HSM I die a little inside. They are all either 6 years old, or hyperactive teenagers. It pains me to see the amount of popcorn dropped in the mad rage to get the best seats, and believe me, sweeping up popcorn is a bitch, especially off floors sticky from the amount of fizzy drinks spilt. And then there's the mothers. - "Can I get a booster seat for my three y/o?" - "How long till the film starts?" - "THE FILM HAS STARTED!? But the ticket says it starts at half past!" - "Yes, its quarter to..." "Where's the toilet?" JESUS In HEAVEN, CAN YOU NOT FUCKING USE YOUR EYES? YOU PASSED IT WHEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE FUCKING DOOR. At least they aren't as bad as the people who come to see Mamma Mia, who are mostly drunk middle-aged women...
ReZourceman Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 At least they aren't as bad as the people who come to see Mamma Mia, who are mostly drunk middle-aged women... Shave it of a few syllables and use the special word for them..."Hellspawn"
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 At least they aren't as bad as the people who come to see Mamma Mia, who are mostly drunk middle-aged women... Same for Hairspray.
