Jimbob Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 This is something that has been niggling at me for sometime now, simple question to all N-E. How do you define "complete" in an X360 game?. Are you an achievement junkie and get all the achievements within a game and enjoy a game if it is excellent and don't accept the credits as the end as such. or Do you play the game and enjoy it and accept the end credits as a game complete and think achievements are a nice add to a game and they are nice to get. Me, well i think of a game complete when i see the end credits and i know that i have played the game, enjoyed it and if i so wish to do so go back and play again. Achievements are a nice bonus and if i acquire some then it is a nice feeling.
Roostophe Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I see the achievements as a nice bonus to completing a game. Although they don't really do anything, it still feels like you have earned something more than just self-pride over finishing the game and seen the ending credits, and perhaps the "Thank You For Playing" screen that every game should have. Even if you haven't 100% completed the game.
Strider Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I say a game is complete once you see the credits and the main game is finished. Achievements are optional extras to me, they just make me think of those OCD gamer folk who MUST get everything.
Shorty Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I love achievements but I don't think I would tick the first box they don't mean you're awesome or show the world anything, they're just something to aim for beyond the end credits of the game. It's like a top 10 high score on an arcade machine, but amongst your friends. I think they're a brilliant idea and add a lot of replay value to games you've already completed.
LegoMan1031 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I define a game as complete when the end credits roll but sometimes i love trying to get all the achievments in a game. Gives me a great sense of satisfaction espically getting them all on the likes of CoD4 and Bioshock.
Cube Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 For me a game is complete when the credits roll (or similar). I'd go after achievements if they sound like fun. I generally don't complete most games 100% because it doesn't seem like fun, even if I love the game (for example, I've never done absolutely everything in a Zelda game). Other games seem to be great for 100% completions (Metroid Prime, Bioshock).
Gizmo Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Do we really need the achievement debate again?
Hellfire Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Achievments have no bearing on whether I think it's complete or not, but some games aren't finished with just getting to the end boss in the easy mode, so I suppose some achievments meet up with "completion". Really depends on the game though. I mean, I'm gonna say you didn't complete an RPG because you didn't max everything and get everything, even though you have 300 hours and finished the story, but in arcadey or action games, getting from start to finish for example doesn't mean anything.
Chris the great Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 well, not technicaly an xbox owner but i'll share my opinion anayway, as i view myself as abouve the rest of you. (jk) for me, it usualy depends on how good a game is that i consider it complete. for most games, beating the final boss and seeing the end is complete. if theres extra scenes, im a sucker for them so usualy try and find them. some games that i love however will push me to 100% them. many zeldas, marios and outhers have been done like this. as for achivments, im using the ps3's torhpies as a comparison. i love drakes ofrtune, though getting all the medals seems a bit of a chore. doubltess, i'll pick more up in later play throughs, but i get no pleasure from simply following instructions to earn a digital trophie, but enjoying the game and finding a little somthing extra is exciting.
Solo Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I'm a bit of both. I go for games that I would enjoy and play through them at my own pace, discovering what the game has to offer. When I finish a game's main feature i.e story mode, single player etc then I will look through the achievement list and see where to go from there. But I have been naughty on occasions and bought games that aren't up to my usual standards (but I make sure they are dirt cheap first) for the sake of boosting my gamer score.
Dan_Dare Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I only really care about achievements if they make the game a bit different, something to aim for in a weird way. I have no interested in stats based achievements (GoW 'seriously?'springs to mind) but things like Geometry Wars that encourage an unorthodox style of play are more than welcome.
