Coolness Bears Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 He said something along those lines after the credits were gone. Something like "You were pretty good! See you next time!". Plus gotta love how he says everything when you have to select something. "Select map", "Ok?". Just made me smile. =D Also, Moo Moo Farm deserves a mention, simply because of the annoying moles popping up! I never know whether to hate or love that map. X3 Monty Moles = Win! Though on that map they did annoy me >___< One small touch and you went spinning out of control!!!! Though I really do like Moo Moo Farm.
Eenuh Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I actually started up Diddy Kong Racing, but after a couple of races in Adventure mode, I realized that I really am not good at this game (never was)! I don't think I ever even finished it. That Whizpig guy (is that his name? XD ) is evil and I couldn't beat him. Didn't help that I drove into the water and had to slowly drive all the way back around to the race track (where is Lakitu when you need him? =P ), making Whizpig double me! So I gave up and turned off my N64... Though I have to say the music in this game is awesome and I was dancing along to it. The graphics are also pretty decent still. Plus the game lets you fly in an airplane! How awesome is that?! =D
nekunando Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I hope this isn't too late and that maybe some of it could yet be put into the article on the main site.. I was just interested in posting my views and memories on the classic racing games we all love as well as others that all of you have neglected to reflect on Mario Kart 64 12 Racers? Motorbikes? Online Play? Whats that all about, eh? Just give me a blue shell that sends fear through the entire field of racers.. not just the poor defenseless fool in first that has been leading the race the whole way.. Mario Kart 64 is my favourite of the series.. despite my SNES favourite Koopa Troopa dropping out in favour of someone who felt the roster could do with a 'shake' up.. Wario! Thankfully, though, he was not forgotten due to the inclusion of Koopa Troopa Beach, one of the Mushroom Cup's best tracks (though, lets face it.. all the circuits in this game were great.. the best in any Mario Kart game by a long way, in my opinion) I put this game on now and again (mainly to complete the Special Cup just to watch, and hear, the wonderful credits ..and attempt the risky Rainbow Road shortcut!) Although some of you suggest that the game has not aged well, and that could well be true to some extent, the memories I have of this game mean that any time I turn the game on I have a fantastic time with it. Great Music, Super Tracks and Brilliant Gameplay make this a classic 1080 Snowboarding Best £9.99 I ever spent? It certainly could be! As with most of the games on this list, it is one of my favourite games... ever! Snow levels have often been the ones I love the most in games (particularly Freezeezy Peak in Banjo-Kazooie.. but we'll get to that tomorrow ) so to have a game based entirely on the wonderful white powder was almost like a dream come true Even before the game began, progressing through the menu felt refreshing with some very cool music as everyone sat around the cabin.. though they all knew I was gonna go for the King of the Slope, Kensuke Kimachi.. his first but hopefully not his last appearance (why was he and Dion not in Avalanche?!) There may not have been many tracks, but each one provided something different. I'll never forget the first time I jumped off the edge quite near the start of Dragon Cave, falling an awful long way with the clothes ruffling in the wind.. it felt exhilerating..especially when I landed it! The analogue stick control was great.. and the simple inclusion of pressing the Z-Button to 'tuck' your board was something which made the game shine! The Contest was also a highlight and I still play this game every Halloween (and often many more times throughout the year) and it still has that magic that first made me fall in love with it ..bring on a Wii Version! V-Rally 99 Edition What a Christmas this was for me..! The previous year saw Santa bring a Nintendo 64 with FIFA 64 for me and my brother (we were expecting FIFA 97 on the SNES ..hell of a nice surprise) ..but due to a lack of money, Mario Kart 64 was the only game that was purchased between then and the following festive season (though those were the days where you could play a game again and again.. and again.. and still keep playing.. it's a lot different now ) V-Rally 99 Edition filled my stocking that following year.. in good company! Goldeneye 007 was there to make sure this Christmas would be even better than the last.. but would there be time to rally when a virtual Robbie Coltrane was on offer in Statue Park just a cartridge away? The answer is.. yes! Although in many respects this is technically not the best Rally game ever, it was my first (and most definitely my favourite!) ..Whilst a few magazines were less than complementary about the difficult-to-get-to-grips-with steering and pop-up, I was in agreement with the 90% rating this received in N64 Magazine. There was huge satisfaction in learning to handle the cars and there was around 50 tracks to put these skills to the test! If you wanted to thrash a Subaru Impreza around the tarmac roads of Corsica or the muddy English terrain, or slide the unlockable Lancia Delta Integrale round the snow of Sweden, this was the game to get on your N64 Top Gear Rally Coastline.. Jungle.. Desert.. Mountain.. Stripmine.. they were all here.. all.. 5.. of.. them. While V-Rally 99 had it's abundance of tracks, Top Gear Rally had a field of 20 racers where you fought your way up from the back in each race to aim for 1st place by the time the end of Lap 3 came around! And wasn't it fun I played this game again a couple of months ago and it still has a lot to offer! The courses were all great fun to rally around, especially with the superb handing each car provided.. whether it be one of the early cars in the game, modelled on a real-life counterpart, or a vehicle you unlocked later in the game such as the Milk Van. Whatever you wanted to take around the track, you could easily make it whatever colour you wanted before each race by simply pressing a few buttons.. or even take it to the Paint Shop and completely design the decals of the car yourself by drawing on each panel.. brilliant! TG Rally 2 took a different direction with choosing teams to race for and bringing in a damage system where you really had to drive as well and as carefully as possible through each race as you would only have a limited amount of time for repairs between stages.. though you could also buy new parts! Drive too fast over a railway track and you're in for a flat tire ..a much more difficult game, but another great racing game in the N64 Library! Diddy Kong Racing I always wanted to play this back when it first came out.. and eventually I got to.. last year! I was surprised.. despite having no previous experience with the game, it was amazing to play after all these years! It is right up there with Mario Kart 64.. great tracks, great music, great characters, great weapons.. I love it The adventure mode was great too, and a nice change from a straight forward Grand Prix, like in the Mario Kart Series. Despite the difficulty of beating Wizpig on occasions, I can safely say this was one of the best games I played in 2007.. and into 2008! £6 with Box and Manual? Incredible price for an incredible game! Cars.. Planes.. Hovercrafts.. they were all fantastic ..and the way weapons worked was very good! F-Zero X 2007 was a great year for my N64.. thanks to ebay F-Zero GX was a game I recently put as high as 2nd Place in my Top Ten GC games (and even then, Resident Evil 4 was pushed very close for the top spot.. I'm still not sure I chose the correct winner.. they were both so good!) It's prequel was a game I long wanted to play and much like DKR I finally got that chance last year. WOW! I turned on the N64 and got hit by a blast of music.. I knew this game was gonna be special! From The Title Screen to Big Blue and Mute City to Silence.. F-Zero X had some of the best music I have experienced in a game (along with the still awesome Streets of Rage 1 and 2) ..the racing wasn't bad either 30 racers per race.. a lightning fast pace.. great courses.. great handling.. what was there not to like?! The game provided a good challenge and the whole experience was simply amazing! If you don't have this, I urge you to download this onto your VC now! All I will say is bring back the Death Race for the Wii version.. and make it online Wave Race 64 Wave Race: Blue Storm is exceptional, one of my very best games (and I have played a lot) ..surely, like with F-Zero, I had to go back and experience the game that came before it after having missed out on it first time around? With ebay around.. yes Wave Race 64 was that previous game and it too is a great game.. but not to the extent of the Gamecube Launch Title. Having said that, being dropped into the water by Dave Mariner on one of the great watery locations is still something everyone should experience! I completed the game quite recently and had a great time controlling my Jet Ski through the buoys as the waves and other riders tried to knock me off course! I suspect I would have had an even greater experience had I played Wave Race 64 back when it first came out but although it was another superb racing game on the N64 it was definitely eclipsed by Blue Storm and it's amazing weather conditions Excitebike 64 This game seems to have been unfortunately missed by a lot of people.. probably due to coming late in the N64's life. What. A. Game! I remember one day reading through my N64 Magazine and reading the Excitebike 64 review over and over, looking at all the cool stuff you could do. Eventually, my brother said "Let's get it" so, we did ..a couple of hours later we came home and I slipped the cartridge out of the box and into my hungry Nintendo 64.. "I'm quite liking the music" was one of my first impressions as I navigated the menus towards my first tutorial. Learning how to control the bike was tricky at first, but some practice later and I was turbo-ing my way to victory.. until the harder difficulties! Excitebike 64 was not an easy game and provided a stern challenge for those who wanted to finish each difficulty (and see every track the game has to offer). Whether it was 'Jumpin' Jim Rivers or Bobby 'Big Dog' Malone, or any of the other riders on offer, you couldn't help but have fun boosting off the top of ramps for 'Big Air', particularly the wonderful leap of faith across the huge gap on Canyon Chasm, one of the games great tracks As well as the selection of 20 indoor and outdoor tracks in the game, there were plenty of other things to do in the game.. including the NES original, which was there in it's entirity! You could try to climb steep hills on your bike (really cool), do a variety of stunts or even play football! Two gigantic goals at each end of the stadium and a huge football where teams of up to 2 v 2 could drive around and try to knock the ball into the opposition goal. All this as well as a track editor for making your own courses makes this one of the N64's finest I will definitely play this game again soon as I keep thinking about how great it is! I don't feel enough people got to experience this game.. so if you can get hold of a copy, I urge anyone to do so! F1 World Grand Prix "Let's See That Again!" said the adverts.. and I saw it plenty! I would never claim to be an F1 fan, and I certainly didn't know much about it back when the N64's best Formula 1 racing game came out! As soon as the Player's Choice version of F1 World Grand Prix came around, I couldn't resist buying it. The game looked great and I had read good things about it.. and the game was fantastic! From Practice, to Qualifying to the Grand Prix, this game delivered a wonderful experience with great visuals, sound and feel! It took a lot of practice to get good but the satisfaction that came with winning your first Grand Prix was excellent.. especially if you had achieved it in the rain! This is still a top game -------------------- So.. it took me a while, but these are my impressions of many of the Nintendo 64's great racing games! Many people moaned about the lack of quality racing titles on the platform but for me the variety and excellence of the games I mentioned far outweigh anything on any other console.. even today! I would also like to mention World Driver Championship as it too is worthy of being played and provides yet another driving experience on the N64. Also, the thrilling speed and insane drifting of Ridge Racer 64 mad it a joy to play! What a machine
tapedeck Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 All impressions done. Thanks Nando. Some fiiiiiine work there from everyone, people don't realise how good the N64 is
darksnowman Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 He said something along those lines after the credits were gone. Something like "You were pretty good! See you next time!". Plus gotta love how he says everything when you have to select something. "Select map", "Ok?". Just made me smile. =D Haha, so true! What about, "Option!" I played MK64 there now because I had to rehear what Mario says after the credits- can't believe I forgot it or doubted you on it. The credits themselves were pretty decent, the music was spot on and I noticed something that brought a sly grin... "DK 3D model provided courtesy of Rare UK." Love it. : peace:
mr_bogus Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 ...and I noticed something that brought a sly grin... "DK 3D model provided courtesy of Rare UK." Love it. : peace: Oh the irony, a bit of trivia for you: The Tiny Kong model was resupplied back to Rare by Nintendo for DKR DS, as she'd become all grown up while she was away!
tapedeck Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Nice info Mr Bogus... NEW(older looking) Tiny: OLD(younger/smaller looking) Tiny: The newer design seems a lot more Japanese inspired (with Mario eyes) yet does this mean Tiny will NEVER be in another Kong game - as her skills from being small will never be needed again!? Looking at Rare's design, I think Tiny would look awesome in 2D And Rare's old character designs for the Kongs were the best ever. There's something so charming about them.
darksnowman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I didn't even know she was in DKR DS! That new and improved, older looking model of her is how she looks in DK Jet Race- I noticed that she'd grown up a bit.
Zechs Merquise Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Did anyone ever player World Driver Championship? That game was amazing and looked beautiful. No one else had a copy apparently lol Mario Kart owned the generation though.
nekunando Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Did anyone ever player World Driver Championship? That game was amazing and looked beautiful. No one else had a copy apparently lol Mario Kart owned the generation though. I have it and have played it a lot (though haven't finished it yet.. it's quite challenging ) ..but I agree with you, World Driver Championship is a really great game! I actually have two of them (one with a box and manual) so the spare cartridge is for sale : peace:
mr_bogus Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I didn't even know she was in DKR DS! That new and improved, older looking model of her is how she looks in DK Jet Race- I noticed that she'd grown up a bit. Yea, Banjo & Conker got replaced by Tiny & Dixie, legal who-owns-who reasons. Did anyone ever player World Driver Championship? That game was amazing and looked beautiful. No one else had a copy apparently lol Nope can't say i have, but another that i really loved at the time which no one else seemed to own a copy of, was Top Gear Overdrive. Anyone ever play that?
