Emasher
The title pretty much sums it up. I'm happy they're taking a stand against piracy but mad that I, who have never broken any piracy law in my life will have to pay for all the other people who download illegally. DCK
Good idea, I'd also love to pay the government €10 for all those damn cars getting stolen...
Emasher
The problem is it will make people think: "hey I'm paying for this, it must be legal/I should get my money's worth"
Shino
Haha, fucking incredible.
Guest Jordan
Nice to see the government more behind companies than its voters. Ahhh corruption.
seamus_aran
I'd do that for a government run download program. It'd shut the record companies up.
Wesley
Good idea, I'd also love to pay the government €10 for all those damn cars getting stolen... Exactly the point I was going to make.
Charlie
Got a sauce on this? How do they actually charge the 5$?
thirtynine.
What will they be taxing? Also this is a great way to trick people into paying more money for no reason!
Sanchez
So the government is taxing something for money lost from music sales lost to piracy? Interesting from a country that released a study that showed music piracy has a positive effect on sales.
Emasher
I think most of the money goes to the the music companies, thought I'm sure the government will keep some of it. I'll try and find a source. Our Prime Minister is an Idiot and the official opposition leader can't talk very well so nobody wants to vote for him, so we pretty much just have to wait until one of them steps down before we get a capable government over here. I would bet good money you've broken some sort of piracy law, ever read the stuff? t's impossible to keep to :p I think a lot of people would be surprised at how much they break copyright law :-(
BlueStar
I seem to remember they wanted to do something like this in America, add a tax to blank CDs and DVDs and possibly to internet connections then pay it to the "victims" of piracy, ie movie and music companies. They gave up on the idea shortly after porno studios pointed out that pornography is one of the most widely pirated forms of media in the world and demanded a large share of the money to reflect that. Emasher
Lies. I would bet good money you've broken some sort of piracy law, ever read the stuff? t's impossible to keep to :p Canada has alot less piracy laws. Anyway, I know I at least have never downloaded something I didn't own, modified anything I did buy, ect.

Emasher
I'm sure any cases of the more ridiculous ones would be thrown out of court, if they ever got there.
ReZourceman
Sounds fair to me. All the stuff I downloads more than worth £2.50. :P
Rummy
$5 to break the law?? Sounds like a bargain to me! Seriously, if someone's gonna charge me to clean up the mess of others, I'll probably go the same way as them in the matter.
