Anyone watch the chicken executions yesterday on Channel 4?

I wasn't too pleased to see the little chicks get murdered but I guess at the end of the day it doesn't effect what I eat. Out of sight, out of mind.

The man lies, free range chickens aren't a couple of quid more, they cost about £7-8. :/

And non free range cost about a fiver, as long as your not buying tescho super economy or something. so its is a couple more quid. Also, if you cant afford it, don't eat it, from the age of about 2 to 10 we hardly ate any meat as we couldn't afford decent meat.

Its disgusting that the supermarkets have so much control of what we buy. The farmers are paid 3 pence a chicken. The supermarkets could easily make less of a profit (ie pay the farmer more) and make a bit less to ensure that the chickens have a healthier lifestyle. I think that if you're going to eat the poor bugger you may as well look after it while its alive rather than treat it cruelly.

Although saying that, being a poor student its hard to afford the decent stuff - just hope the butchers use quality chickens instead!

It was quite shocking how much battery farmed eggs were in everyday goods.. something that should be stamped out imo.

As for the executions, didn't really change my mind on eating chicken. It looks painless so I doubt the animal is suffering much.. and it is a damn tasty meat. Breast ftw!

EDIT: Anyone else notice that the supermarkets who make the biggest profits (ASDA and Tesco) were the ones who refused to change their chickens over to the RSPCA assured variety? No wonder they make so much profit the money hungry *****.

i really didn't understand why the male chicks weren't let to grow up so that they could live a full life and then be slaughtered to be eaten!

i've only eaten free range for the last few years and refuse to eat anything else, and he was right they only cost a coupla quid more. i'm in a crap job and money is extremely tight but i can afford them.

I think anyone ignorant enough to ignore this is an arrogant ****. Sorry for the language, but seriously who wouldn't pay a little bit extra to ensure the meat you eat hasn't been fed on hormones to make it grow faster, or been treated like shit.

Yes I made a choice not to eat meat, I don't want to preach and tell you to stop eating meat, but please just consider where you food comes from.

I'd love to come over all holy and tell everyone to save the world, but **** it, chicken tastes awesome.

yes it does, but 95% of all chickens bred for food in britain are treated like shite and filled full of drugs to make them grow faster and kept in barns where they're cramped in, no room to move, and are walking on their own piss and shit. ever wondered why tesco's etc cut the feet off the chickens? burn marks on their soles from all the shit!! trust me, even on the taste front, go free range!! you think chicken tastes awesome now, free range is even awsome-er.

That is how I feel. I would say something along the lines of taking care of them better and the such but somehow, I think it would end up killing my wallet even further. Corporations will always find a way to make their money. But for as much as I agree that we can do better to raise them up, until we find a way that does not screw over the consumer, this will have to do.

The problem with that though is that the motivation to find the solution is not there, people who want money are getting plenty of it and people who want food are getting plenty of it without it hi-jacking their budget.

My friend had a chicken called Ermy, who lived for 9 years, and it used to go in her house and sit on the table and stuff. Thats proper free range! :p

That would be cool :D Very "Joey and Chandler" :D

Indeed the show highlighted a charity that takes battery hens that are about to get killed and they rehouse them as family pets.
