Posted January 2, 2008 Well we have a thread about them being a bunch of wankers, but let's have a thread about them doing good. And maybe we can all learn to be a little bit more courteous to each other. I often hold doors open for people and the like. It's not much but it can sometimes be the little things that make someone's day. So share your stories of when the general public (yourself included) has done something great. Posted January 2, 2008 Once a lady dropped £20 in Alldays and I told her. Once when I was a kid, me and 2 of my friends were walking home from school, and an old lady asked us to help weed her garden. One of my two comrades was sent on a dog walking trip to buy butter. We were promised a handsome reward. After 30 minutes of digging in the height of summer, we were presented with about 26 pence each. We took it gracefully and left. We were not happy with the one friend that convinced us it was a good idea. The dog walking friend got five pence more despite having the easier task. Posted January 2, 2008 While on trolleys I occasionally used my key to relieve trolleys of the £1 so the customer doesn't have to take it back to the trolley bay. Posted January 2, 2008 I was in ASDA and there was a women who couldnt reach the crisps on the top shelf. Now being the friendly giant i am i went to assist and got that last packet of crisps hiding at the back. Posted January 2, 2008 Some forgetful woman left either ten or twenty pounds in the cash machine and just walked off with her card. So I took it and ran after her to give it to her. I remember when I had a number 2 all over, some of the looks... I felt so sorry for them. I almost wanted to say in a quite reassuring whisper, "Do not fear. Posted January 2, 2008 This isn't related but: Where the hell do old people get their clothes from? They all wear the same stuff, it's like they have their own brand. I see old people in trousers, 10 layers of clothing and a coat in the summer. But really, my dad and I have a theory that once you hit a certain age, you can see a shop that is hidden to everyone else. Like Platform 9 3/4, only old people can see it, and it sells old people clothes and those luggage trolleys that they carry around with them. I would like to know. Posted January 2, 2008 The thousands of volunteers who help Christmas open Crisis each year to accomendate the homeless and the many who offer there specialist services such as GPs, Dentists and Hiardressers to name a few. Also the main organisers of it who's normal job isn't to do this and who usually work in a bank (or somewhere) and give up all their holiday! Posted January 2, 2008 I often give up a seat on the bus for elderly people etc. I swear though they are shit scared of me. If the only seat left is next to me, sometimes they stand. Posted January 2, 2008 For the most part people aren't so bad, lately when I've been out all dolled up I haven't had one bit of abuse off anyone, even a bunch of chavvy kids told me I looked amazing, I was quite surprized, I expected at least one abusive comment from somebody, but all I got were compliments. Years ago when I was homeless complete strangers have been very kind too me, one Christmas I was sitting outside an off licence and some woman came up and gave me £25, and another time when I was sitting in Bristol town centre with my boots falling apart some woman came up and gave me £30 to buy a new pair of boots. Actually thinking about it I was probably better off financially when I was homeless, being given money for sitting around in rags looking miserable is quite a good earner. Posted January 3, 2008 ialways try be polite. holding doors, giving up my seat. i get annoyed when people in wheelchairs just think they dont have to show consideration for other. i once saw someone hit about 4-5 people without an apology, then when i didnt hold the door they muttered i was rude. so i gave them a disgusted stare. Posted January 3, 2008 One Christmas day my sister and I decided to go and help with the local Christmas meal for the homeless. After two hours of standing around being told there was nothing for us to do we asked where all the homeless people were. "Oh, they're down the pub I'd expect." Ah yes, of course. As for other people helping me, I'm afraid nothing comes to mind. I've had a few people hold doors open and the like, but that's par for the course, no? Posted January 3, 2008 Well it didnt happen to me, but I witnessed it: A woman came up to the counter at my work, and asked 'Who made that cake?' (referring to the one she'd just eaten) - and Greg (my assistant manager) put up his hand. Then she said, 'Well it was very nice! Well done!' and Greg was so happy.
