Reports starting to go round about 3.0 breaking uncharted;

http://www.destructoid.com/firmware-3-0-screwing-up-uncharted-for-some-users-147218.phtml

It wouldn't be a system update without problems now, would it? Firmware 3.0 is out for PlayStation 3 and some users are reporting issues, most notably a glitch that is causing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to freeze at a certain point in the game.

The freezing bug doesn't seem to be affecting everyone, but a number of people have been complaining on the official PlayStation forums. Things start messing up after the U-boat section when Drake learns to shoot while hanging. Once affected players reach that area, the whole game locks up and they need to restart the PS3 in order to do anything.

A few people are also saying that Wipeout HD will no longer output in dolby digital 5.0 ever since they installed the new Firmware. Apparently this is the only game affected.

Like I said, it wouldn't be a system update without this kind of nonsense, but hopefully Sony looks into these issues soon. You might want to check and make sure your own PS3 isn't affected.

Wonder if any other games are affected. Shame for new owners this has happened...I bet a lot of people have picked it up as its one of the THE games to own and they can't play it. Sort it out Sony, don't leave it for Naughty Dog to sort out..(if thats even possible)

Starting to? HoT already came across this the other day. :heh:

I actually wanted to play Uncharted tonight. Probably because this news reminded me.

I'm hoping there'll be a 3.1 revision soon. They have a bone to pick with Uncharted, so they can also take off those fucking grey boxes and shrink the text and icons back to how they were..!

I meant as in sites actually reporting it rather than on forums etc...

I actually don't mind the boxes. I want to be able to select the fricking colour though.

yeah...why can't the boxes look like the portable ID's would look so much better;

?imageUrlToken=qWhdPfezHa&locationType=file

I mean have the new dynamic avatars they are going to add etc... take away some of the stuff like favourite game and mood and replace with stuff like what your playing etc...

At the moment its like they've kinda not done enough and made them look stupid...I'd prefer something closer to the portable ID's. Even if the colour was kind of like when your writing a message that would be less intrustive and stupid looking...

I managed to get it working again today. I got to level 7 before it crashed again. I've found that once it crashes if I play another game for a bit and then come back to Uncharted it starts working. I did this later after playing LBP and it work fine, managed to get to level 13 before knocking it off.

Stringer: Sony is on the 3DTV train

Sony boss Sir Howard Stringer is very keen on 3DTV, and wants all branches of his company to embrace it.

His goal is that Sony TVs, PS3 consoles, Blu-ray players and VAIO laptops will all be compatible with stereoscopic 3D by the end of next year.

"Today, 3D is clearly on its way to the mass market," the Financial Times expects Stringer to say at a Berlin trade fair, imminently.

"As with high-definition a few years back, there are a variety of issues yet to be addressed. But the 3D train is on the track, and we at Sony are ready to drive it home."

The Sony televisions will use "active shutter" technology, where special glasses have tiny shutters that open and close in time with the television. Most cinemas use a polarisation technique, but this requires an audience to be sat at a certain angle, making home use unsuitable.

Like the struggle between HD-DVD and Blu-ray in recent years, one format has yet to be settled on.

Sony, however, is far from a 3DTV pioneer. Samsung and Mitsubishi already sell 3DTVs, although US shops stock far more models than the UK. Plus, the PS3 is already capable of producing 3D images, as Blitz Games boss Andrew Oliver told us earlier this summer.

His game, Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao - released last month on PSN and XBLA - can be viewed in 3D by anyone with a telly capable of supporting the image. And the BlitzTech engine can be licensed by third-parties now.

Go through the stereoscopic looking glass with Andrew Oliver to find out how the technology works.

I would be surprised to see this as the big thing in next gen consoles. The first ever 3D game went up on PSN last week.

Does anyone know the difference between 3D TVs that need glasses and the ones that don't?

So the load times are still pretty bad then? sure 15 seconds quicker but 30 - 45 seconds is still a pretty big load time.

Uncharted features an initial load after which all other data is streamed, so it really isn't that bad at all. So long as you watch the cutscenes — data's loaded in the background whilst they play — that's the only load screen you'll ever see. It doesn't require an install, either, so it's far from a half-arsed effort.

Has anyone experienced previous trouble with 1080p? Whenever I set the PS3 Slim to it white dot start appearing scrambling parts of the screen. 1080i/720p works fine so I am on 720p at the moment, but would like to use 1080 since the TV is supposed to support it.

If anyone hasn't got me on PSN, please add me.

I have just been looking at the Gamertag/PSN ID thread and noticed I don't have some of the regulars from around here.

Using my game swapping method I finished Uncharted last night, on my way through hard mode now. Many on G-Faqs are reporting my method works for them, looks like I gave a temporary fix to the 3.0 problems.

In other news, Motorstorm 2 and Final Fantasy: Dissidia LE arrived today.

Brilliant moment on Home just now, won the Buzz tomato hat from the Events space by answering 10 questions right consecutively (tomato lobbing at Buzz himself). So I put it on and went to leave only to find that everyone started doing the running man in a circle around a revolving statue of Buzz... So naturally me and 'Hat joined in with the new tomato attire.

I'm now convinced Home can be good!
