Thundercats, O?

Videogame vet Jerry O'Flaherty helming movie adaptation.

US, October 10, 2007 - Warner Bros. has hired videogame veteran Jerry O'Flaherty to helm their forthcoming big-screen CG-animated adaptation of Thundercats.

O'Flaherty, Variety scoops, will make his feature directing debut with the nostalgia-steeped project that's based on the popular cartoon and comic book series from the 1980s. O'Flaherty worked as art director on Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3, and Command and Conquer. He had reportedly been looking to jump into the film biz and mulled several projects before settling on Thundercats.

"It feels like a natural thing for me to step into," he told Variety. "Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the videogame experience."

O'Flaherty will tweak the script with screenwriter Paul Sopocy.

The Thundercats movie will tell the origin story of the humanoid cats who flee their home planet of Thundera before it's destroyed. The action will center on Lion-O, who comes of age as the leader of the group while they take on the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra.

O'Flaherty says his film will remain faithful to the original franchise.

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thunder.....cats!!

on the good side, thank god it's not live action, i had really bad visions.

but not too sure about CG either, guess i'll have to wait to see some pics/vids.... just hope it's better than the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, CG film *shudder*
