I am also being sucked in by Vampire Survivor. Was recommended by a friend. At first I didn't think it was all that great but I went on one hell of a run in the Library. Was getting so good that the screen was flooded and i was only getting chicken or money from chests. Now I can't stop playing the damn game.

So... TLOU Part 1 on PC is a steaming trash-fire of a port.  That's not cool.

What's even more super not cool is Naughty Dog trying to throw Iron Galaxy under the bus when they only worked in a minor supporting role (the port was primarily done by Naughty Dog in-house, with Iron Galaxy providing some minor support work)...

Fucking shameful behaviour all around.  They rushed this out before it was ready because they wanted to cash in on the TV show's success.  Don't drag poor Iron Galaxy through your mud!

So i just upgarded my ram from 16 to 32 GB and repasted my CPU. I had a hell of a time getting in there though thanks to that black rock pro 4 i've got sitting on the CPU. Overhangs the ram so i had to rip that off of there before slotting them in. You ever try to reasemble that big freaking cooler in a closed case without taking out the monthrboard? Think i sweat half my body weight getting that thing back in.

Thinking about switching to an AIO in the future. Much more space in the case after that.

So I just found out that this is a thing...

https://www.acer.com/gb-en/spatiallabs

https://store.acer.com/en-gb/acer-ds1-monitor-asv15-1b-blue-ff-r1wek-001

Acer have just recently brought out a range of autostereoscopic PC displays and laptops, and it's actually available to buy commercially! It's not some sort of fancy prototype pie-in-the-sky concept device, it's a real thing that you can buy and use with your own Windows PC today!

acer-spatialLabs-view-pro-banner-l-1:Sec

Oh baby! That's the good stuff!

It's basically exactly like the New Nintendo 3DS screen, complete with eye tracking... except that it's a 4k display that can show S3D content in full 1080p resolution

And in a shocking move, they're actually working with game developers to give games a proper stereoscopic 3D makeover.  And this isn't just your typical PC gamer shite that I'm not interested in... because they've actually given the full S3D treatment to the likes of Octopath Traveller 1 & 2, actual good games that I would actually care about! :o

If you know anything about me, you know that I fucking love stereoscopic 3D! Right now it costs a bomb, but I really hope it does well and we start seeing larger versions of the display, prices come down and more games get the S3D treatment.  I'm really happy to see someone push autostereoscopic 3D tech once again, I've missed it so much with the Switch.

Acer does what Nintendon't! :D

I… I bought it… (got it on a discount at least)

I just tried it out…

I just saw the greatest avocado I’ve ever seen in my life!

This thing is the real deal! It works exactly as advertised! I cannot WAIT to play Octopath Traveller 1 & 2 on this thing!! :D (But it’ll have to wait until Saturday).  God it’s SO fucking cool! I LOVE it! :bouncy:

IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

It works just as well as I was hoping it would! Like a little diorama come to life :D

Yeah, if you crave the 3D experience again; I massively reccommend this screen!

I gotta try out some Virtual Boy and 3DS games on this thing...

Look, I'm all for bigging up how awesome this is (Because it is), but it kinda defeats the point if you show it off with a 2D photo!

I really don't need to play Octopath again, but it's so tempting!

Decided it was time to upgrade from my Steam Deck. It's a very good handheld but I've got to be honest it's underpowered in comparison to other devices out there now and I'm not a massive fan of Linux still. Getting a Windows handheld made more sense for me, plus being able to use Game Pass for it is a massive advantage so I got myself an Asus ROG Ally and I've just finished upgrading the ssd to a 1tb. Really liking it so far. Lighter than my Deck and a much nicer screen at 1080p, 120hz. Looking forward to trying out Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield on it.

It's typical of me you know, I'm really liking the Ally, I've got both Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield running well and ready to play and yet I've spent most of my time on Vampire Survivors and Phoenix Wright

@Happenstance got a few questions for you since you've had some experience with a Steam Deck.

If the sales of my Counter Strike Skins go through, I'll likely have about 200-250€ in my Steam Wallet and I'm considering a purchase of a refurbished 64GB Steam Deck and upgrading it with an SSD.

I intent to play some older games from my library and the odd indie game here and there. Would you say the Steam Deck is a viable option for that? And you say that it's underpowered compared to more recent devices. Is it still possible to play newer games at reasonable FPS and graphics settings?

Also: Do you have experience with emulation? Do you need to install a different OS or how would that work?

It's underpowered for new stuff like Baldur's Gate and Starfield but still a very capable little machine. I've seen people play the Spider-Man games on it no problem for example.

Emulation works brilliantly on it, I'd say up to PS2/Gamecube for almost flawless, Wii U level can work fine and some people have gotten Switch running ok. If you search for guides on installing EmuDeck on the Steam Deck that will explain how to get it all done. EmuDeck is excellent as it just manages everything for you, downloads all the emulators you need, installs them and configures their settings to work best on the Deck. No need to switch OS, all you'd have to do to start would be to download it on the Deck's Desktop mode which is an option when you power the device off.

Awesome. Sounds like it's perfect for what I'm looking for right now.

Thanks :peace:

Also worth keeping in mind that the Steam Deck has a bespoke OS that has native support for things like sleep/wake, hardware level FPS caps (that work perfectly with no microstuttering), brightness etc.  It feels like an actual handheld device, rather than a Windows/Linux PC shoved uncomfortably into a handheld form factor.

That makes a big difference to the end-user experience.  You can just use it as if it were a console.

Even better. :)

If my final skin sales go through I'll be sitting at 260 bucks in my Steam wallet. Having to only pay 70€ more for the device and then an additional 70-80€ for an SSD seems like a great deal for a refurbished Steam Deck :D

I may wait for Black Friday to see if a new Deck will be on sale so I won't have to "resort" to a refurbished one.

Another 12€ are pending but should go through in the next 24 hours.

Now the refurbished 64GB model just needs to be in stock again...

I need someone to send in their 64GB Steam Deck so Valve can refurbish it and sell it to me...I have enough money in my Steam Wallet and I want to spend it :D:(

Well it seems that we're getting this part at least, because Acer just announced a 27' version of the Pro model to come out early next year!

https://www.acer.com/us-en/monitors/spatiallabs/acer-spatiallabs-view-pro-27

The Pro series is the one designed for professional/industry users, so this definitely isn't going to be coming out at consumer grade pricing, but hopefully the inevitable non-Pro version ends up being at least somewhat reasonably priced (it won't).

Still happy to see more strides being made.  I love my current Spatiallabs View! :D
