Sméagol Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Moral of the story: never buy a Laptop :p for gaming. If more people are up for it, someone should suggest a date. I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere tomorrow.
MATtheHAT Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 People go nuts for dem hats! I don't buy games directly anymore, just buy Mann Co crate keys and trade for games. Traded 10 keys for Payday 2, which works out at around £14.

I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere tomorrow. Speaking of this, I'll be on Steam pretty much all day. ID: WolfyNE. Although if you can, let me know, give me a hint of who you are, it gets a bit confusing trying to keep track of people otherwise.
Deathjam Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Anyone interested in playing borderlands 2 sometime? Quite ashamed that it's such a good game yet I haven't completed it despite getting quite close to the end. EDIT: oh and added you on steam @nightwolf. Will get around to PSN sometime.
drahkon Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Will ask this here instead of the "Tech Talk" forums. This is my motherboard. Since I'll be getting a new PSU, as my current one is fucked up, I decided to maybe get a new graphics card, as well. Right now my PC is equipped with this one. Don't want to play newer games with ultra high settings, but I'd like a bit more power. I have no clue what to look for, so I need help from you guys :p Willing to spend about 250€ for the card. Don't have a lot more money available because a PSU will probably cost me 60€-80€. What about this?

Don't have a lot more money available because a PSU will probably cost me 60€-80€. What about this? Starting with the graphics card, it's a very good choice. It's that "sweet spot" good performance for a very good price. Problem though is that the GTX 760 ,770 etc have been released which should drive down the price (and stock/availabilty) of the GTX 660 but that does not seem to have happened yet. At the budget, you could manage getting the superiour 760 which will play newer games at max settings. That said, taking a look at the motherboard, you may get cpu locked on certain games meaning no matter how good you graphics card is, the cpu will bring your performance down. Not sure on this though as you may have a high end Core 2 Quad processor that still performs. As for the PSU, don't be afraid to get an expensive one as it 's one of the most important part of the computer. To give your GPU the power it needs I recommend at least a 650 WATT PSU with at least bronze certification like this one. Hope this helps.
drahkon Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 At the budget, you could manage getting the superiour 760 which will play newer games at max settings. Hm, maybe I'll wait a little longer then. Especially when I should go for a more expensive PSU. Not sure on this though as you may have a high end Core 2 Quad processor that still performs. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6850. So no Quad here. Edit: How difficult is it to connect all the stuff to the PSU? Might order one from Amazon instead of going to a local PC shop. Will save me the repair costs.

I've put in quite a few hours into BL2, but my friend and I stopped the co-op as we got distracted by other games. Just yell at me if you want to play.

Although if you can, let me know, give me a hint of who you are, it gets a bit confusing trying to keep track of people otherwise. I just added you. I try to be consistent with my names, but sometimes I have to change my nicks due to unavailability, or more frequently, due to incompatibility with accents . My accountname is: nat_king_cole But my non-unique in-game profile name is (usually) just Sméagol. There are so many Sméagols on Steam.. But I’m the only one with a Sackboy avatar :p. You’re also not in the NE Steam group yet I see, Me or Deathjam can take care of that. Hm, maybe I'll wait a little longer then. Especially when I should go for a more expensive PSU.[..] Somone on another forum got the suggestion to just wait until the likes of Battlefield 4 and Watchdogs and such come out. You’ll have more time to save money, and by that time a clearer view of the hardware you’ll need and more money to spend it on.
MATtheHAT Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I am in the market for a decent gaming PC, and was advised to wait until next gen hits. The games being developed for PS4 and Xbone should give us an understanding of what the requirements of PC are to run those games. (Similar advice to Smeagol's above) Fare logic I suppose. Also, I've noticed the TF2 event made by Smeagol, awesome idea! Any other games people play? I love Counter-Strike: GO, but suck so bad.
Sméagol Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I don’t have counter strike, and I don’t think it interests me much. Unfortunately, I don’t have any recent multiplayer titles. I could buy some, but I think I’ll better wait till end of the year. Though I was eyeing Arma, but that won’t be for everyone. I may be convinced to still get Borderlands 2 (there’s bound to be a nice summer deal), but I haven’t even “finished” the first one yet. No I think I’ll wait for Battlefield 4. Oh wait, I should try Planetside, but I think it may break my internet . We can always play Isketch! Anyway, either Team Fortress for me, or L4D (1 or 2), something @Marcamillian suggested. Or something even older? Elite Force? Quake 3 :p I’m gone Saturday, and Sunday is a day I like to go see films. So I prefer Friday, but I think most will prefer Sunday. Maybe both? :p.
nightwolf Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I'm game for Friday or Sunday. It was fun playing with you guys, apart from the heart attack that my computer caused. Perhaps if we get a bit group, Skype should be in order?
Sméagol Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Yeah, I was thinking I should check these things beforehand . I honestly couldn't find my voicechat settings quickly enough. I had it set to push to talk, and I had to figure out which key I had set for it. That said, I don’t say much anyway. Me and Deathjam used Skype for Mass Effect. I don’t know what people use with Team Fortress usually? With teams scrambling often, I wonder how people organise this.
nightwolf Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 We could always use Skype, that way voice chat is easier. As for teams, why not use the new beta thing TF2 has? It allows you to all enter the same map, if we switch teams, then so what.
drahkon Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Anybody heard of Spy Party? Currently in open beta (for 15$). Looks kinda cool
MATtheHAT Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 So I picked up Gunpoint earlier after being a bit indecisive for a while. I'm so glad I bought it, it's very good. Also bought the daily Steam deal - Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. Anybody played this? I've never played the original so looking forward to getting into it. God knows what I'll be like during the summer sale......
Magnus Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I'm not a huge fan of the original Baldur's Gate. The sequel is much better.
Sméagol Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Anybody heard of Spy Party? Currently in open beta (for 15$). Looks kinda cool Penny-arcade had an article about it some time ago. Weirdly enough, one of the Nintendo land games (I think) reminded them of it. Concept sounded cool, but I think I get too nervous if I play it .
nightwolf Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 On a similar note, has anyone given any thought to playing cube world? I've just heard that yesterday it was released as a beta for anyone to play - for a fee of course. I'm sorely tempted as it really reminds me of Zelda (which is what the originally guy wol_lay intended), but I'd rather, as always, play as a group. Cube world for people that haven't seen it: http://wollay.blogspot.co.uk/

Cube world for people that haven't seen it: http://wollay.blogspot.co.uk/ Looks good, actually looks very good. You can do more in this game than you can do in some current mmos... Thing is download link is down on their site atm. There seems to be a link on another website which gets the game for free but feels like pirating (especially as it's on a site with that in the title) so I am against trying that link.
drahkon Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 On a similar note, has anyone given any thought to playing cube world? Totally forgot about this game. Have been following it for a couple of months but kinda lost track some weeks ago. It is in paid beta now? Sweet. Will buy it
Happenstance Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Oh yeah I noticed the Yogscast put some videos up for that recently, I meant to look into it.
drahkon Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 (edited) Oh yeah I noticed the Yogscast put some videos up for that recently, I meant to look into it. Watching the first video right now. I want this game Edit: Gonna stop watching. Need to experience this myself @nightwolf We need to team up if you buy the game :p Edited July 3, 2013 by drahkon
flameboy Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 So my girlfriend had concerns about me paying so much for the lenovo ideapad that I was going to get....(I may still end up getting it but looking for cheaper alternatives) Are any of these any good?: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hewlett-packard-hp-15-6-laptop-black-amd-e1-1200-320gb-hdd-4gb-ram-windows-8-2000-2c60ca/10238600.aspx?path=d13e5b5d3c9acb4687aa1340b2b4625cen02&SearchPageIndex=1 http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hewlett-packard-hp-pavilion-g6-15-6-laptop-black-amd-a4-4300m-750gb-hdd-6gb-ram-windows-8-g6-2248ca/10225646.aspx?path=029dcb7f3813093dd7531d4d4441d6c7en02&SearchPageIndex=1 http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hewlett-packard-hp-pavilion-15-6-laptop-black-amd-a6-4400m-500gb-hdd-6gb-ram-windows-8-g6-2240ca/10229109.aspx?path=13cc1f580f3118e2b2bedb633a14fde6en02&SearchPageIndex=1 http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hewlett-packard-hp-pavilion-g6-15-6-laptop-black-amd-a6-4400m-750gb-hdd-6gb-ram-windows-8-g6-2264ca/10225900.aspx?path=eca384a1a8bcbd868459fddc456bc1afen02&SearchPageIndex=1 If someone could look through and give me a rough idea if any of them are any good. Four HPs ranging from $370-$499 It's true though the lenovo does get expensive $599+tax= $676 plus enviro tax fee (which they seem to make up per device) looking at $700.
Happenstance Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Ive just run the Cubeworld demo anyway and it runs fine so I may have to get a copy when the beta goes back on sale, looks like they are having issues at the moment though so its been taken down.
