chairdriver Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 One of my fave Alanis songs: It loses the sinister sound of the album recording, but it's still stunning. "And how would I explain!? How would I explain this to my children, if I had them?" I love the ending most. "WHY DO YOU STILL AFFECT ME? WHY DO YOU AFFECT ME STILL? And I still can't walk without my crutches."
Daft Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I've got Black and Gold stuck on repeat. This song was big, right? Nice religious song. I'd actually go to church if shit like this was sung.
S.C.G Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I've got Black and Gold stuck on repeat. This song was big, right? Nice religious song. I'd actually go to church if shit like this was sung. Big yes, but big doesn't necessarilly equal good, I found it pretty annoying myself but maybe that's because it's overplayed... ...nope, it's not just that, I simply don't like it much.
Paj! Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Eenuh, get Virgin Suicides. Or Radiohead. Hands isn't that good. Really, Symmetry is the only track to go back to, so just buy that track seperately. I don't like Laughing With by Regina Spektor. The message tells me nothing of interest. I'm aware that humans are contradictory selfish beings, and I'm sure that If I were in a crashing aeroplane, or dying from cold, I would pray to God, despite not believing in him before then. But that's cause I'd be desperate to live. Plus "powerful". It's one of her least powerful things she's ever done...listen to "Braile" for once. --- Sam Sparro annoys me and I can not place why. I should like Black and Gold but I don't. I've never listened to the album (despite having it on my iTunes).
Daft Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Yeah, the album is a bit meh. Pocket is good, I think. I can't speak for the man himself. Never seen or read about him. Big yes, but big doesn't necessarilly equal good, I found it pretty annoying myself but maybe that's because it's overplayed... ...nope, it's not just that, I simply don't like it much. My avoidance of popular music has served me well. I heard this yesterday in my student bar and then it was released on SingStar the same day. I can't get enough of it. I think it's the beats and the simple lyrics and potentially complex subject matter (yet not). Weird description but yeah...
S.C.G Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Each to their own... hearing stuff on the radio doesn't change my view much though, for instance if I like something the first time I hear it or if a song I know comes on the radio then I'll still like it no matter how many times it's played... but if I find a song annoying right from first play and then it gets played to death, I'll still hate it and this only increases with each play. Anyway I can't exactly avoid the radio at work as I'm mostly at the mercy of w/e station is put on, sometimes it just gets turned off in disdain/protest by me though if theres a genuinely god-awful song on the deserves to be silenced in order to preserve the hearing/senses of all in close proximity.
Eenuh Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Eenuh, get Virgin Suicides. Or Radiohead. Hands isn't that good. Really, Symmetry is the only track to go back to, so just buy that track seperately. To clarify, normally I wouldn't really be buying any of these albums (apart from Talkie Walkie), but since this deal is on I wanted to find some new stuff to listen to. Little Boots is only on that list because I was wondering what all the fuss is about heh. =P I think I might just go with Radiohead, maybe. I'm not a huuuuge fan of them but they do have some great songs so yeah.

I actually find it helps me get hooked to something if I hear it around the place but don't actually listen to it. Then I get it after a while. With songs I don't like, my mood goes in the opposite direction. (ie All Lady Gaga songs.)
Paj! Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I think I might just go with Radiohead, maybe. I'm not a huuuuge fan of them but they do have some great songs so yeah. It's not really their most accesible album. But stunning anyway.
Slaggis Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Lady GaGa performs her new song 'Bad Romance' on SNL tomorrow for the first time. The demo version of it literally just leaked, and the production is heavenly. She really does bring out the best in RedOne. Supposedly it sounds a million times better on the final version, which I'm happy to hear considering the vocal does sound a little odd in places.
Ashley Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) New Music...Friday! Finally got around to listening to Had it since release but was ill and not in the mood for Dizzee. Good album. I'd imagine Holiday (also produced by Calvin Harris) will probably be the next single as its quite 'accessible' but I really liked Dirtee Cash (what song was that sampling...?) and Can't Tek No More. A new Dizzee album is always fun just to listen to the lyrics, although I forget what they are at the moment but I remember laughing Also gave me flashbacks of listening to Boy in da Corner in Yoyogi Park Also listened to Had heard the song 'Hide Another Mistake' on How I Met Your Mother (as well as the band being featured) so thought I'd check it out. Not bad, although I prefer their more mellow stuff in the latter half. Will certainly give it another listen Edited October 2, 2009 by Ashley
Hem Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Holiday has already been released as a single. Dirtee Cash and Road Rage will also be released in the future as singles. The sample in Dirtee Cash is from a Stevie V song called Dirty Cash I think. (Warning: Another List) Anyone seen the Pitchfork Top 200 albums of the decade list? 200. Jay Reatard - Blood Visions 199. chairdriver Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I love Pitchfork's obsession with Annie the most.
Hem Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Sensational. Yeah, kind of the biggest surprise of the Top 20. Especially since Pitchfork only gave it (the much too low score of) 6.4 when it first came out.
Daft Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) 194. Pulp - We Love Life191. Air - Talkie Walkie 188. M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts 161. Air France - No Way Down 156. Radiohead - Kid A These a most of my highlights. I am amazed and ever so pleased that Phoenix got on the list. I've just downloaded about 15 of the albums off the list onto my iPod Touch with my Spotify Premium membership. My GOD! Do I love Spotify. Simplicity itself. Yeah, kind of the biggest surprise of the Top 20. Especially since Pitchfork only gave it (the much too low score of) 6.4 when it first came out. Yeah, they seem to just not like Daft Punk (So, as you pointed out, number 3 is shocking). They completely just didn't get Discovery in their review. They slaughtered Human After All and I would have agreed with them up until Alive 2007 came out. Alive 2007 is simply the greatest live album I have ever heard (partly because I hate live albums). It shows why Human After All was made and what it was made for. Edit: Actually, just reading the Alive 2007 review and they said the same thing. One of the most remarkable aspects of Alive 2007 is how well it recontextualizes career nadir Human After All, turning previously leaden songs into ebullient rock'n'roll manifestos; injected with Homework's air-tight Moroder-style anthems or Discovery's flamboyant funk, Human After All tracks are constantly improved and born anew. Just read the Top 20 article. Perhaps the album's most underappreciated track is the sad but gorgeous "Short Circuit", a three-minute robot graveyard of crumbled transistors and dying LEDs. This makes me so happy. I think Short Circuit is absolutely amazing. Possibly my favourite Daft Punk track. Edited October 3, 2009 by Daft
Roostophe Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I've got - and love - the Top 3 albums. This makes me rather awesome.
Hem Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 The list has introduced me to 10. The Avalanches - Since I Left You. Can't believe I haven't listened to this sooner since it was released in 2000. Wow, it's amazing. Kind of reminds me of a summerish themed Endtroducing... (DJ Shadow). The whole album's also available on Spotify.
Dan_Dare Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 200 is a bit of a marathon to get through but the top 20 is brilliant.
Ashley Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Not that difficult. An album a day (excluding weekends or any two days really in case you're busy) is 5 a week, 40 weeks, about 10 months. Come on, next August you'll be laughing!

Paj! Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Interestingly, Pitchfork gave Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea by PJ Harvey like...5.7 or something, when it was released. Glad they saw the error of their ways.
