I'm liking Paolo Nutini's new album, Sunny Side Up.

Very different to the first one, sounds a bit more refined and less radio-made singer-songwriter. Very...Marley-esque in places.

Blame Razz for both of these being posted.

Spice Girls - Stop - I remember knowing all the moves to the chorus when I was a kid (How manly am I). God, I loved this so much. Wannabe and Say You'll Be There were brilliant too. So many memories!

I refuse to take the blame for this! You were the one who said, and I quote "Omg Is it wrong I want to listen to the Spice Girls!?"

Followed by me agreeing :P

Only because of your mention of Mel C and Bryan Adams! (Which coincidentally I'm now totally addicted too. Eurgh).

In her defence, Mel C was the only one to have a semi-credible music career after Spice Girls. The other a few sporadic guiltily pleasurable singles, at best.

Personally, I always loved the video for;

Ginger Spice back then = <3

I'll just say that that Mel C and Bryan Adam's song wasn't bad. I liked it back then and I'd happily listen to it now. Definitely still has a place in today's music scene.

Rise Against - Hero of War

Broadcast Yourself
Audio

An amazing song and an amazing story. Not your usual "war is shit" song, but a really sad story of a soldier.

He said "Son, have you seen the world?

Well, what would you say if I said that you could?

Just carry this gun and you'll even get paid."

I said "That sounds pretty good."

Black leather boots

Spit-shined so bright

They cut off my hair but it looked alright

We marched and we sang

We all became friends

As we learned how to fight

A hero of war

Yeah that's what I'll be

And when I come home

They'll be damn proud of me

I'll carry this flag

To the grave if I must

Because it's a flag that I love

And a flag that I trust

I kicked in the door

I yelled my commands

The children, they cried

But I got my man

We took him away

A bag over his face

From his family and his friends

They took off his clothes

They pissed in his hands

I told them to stop

But then I joined in

We beat him with guns

And batons not just once

But again and again

A hero of war

Yeah that's what I'll be

And when I come home

They'll be damn proud of me

I'll carry this flag

To the grave if I must

Because it's a flag that I love

And a flag that I trust

She walked through bullets and haze

I asked her to stop

I begged her to stay

But she pressed on

So I lifted my gun

And I fired away

The shells jumped through the smoke

And into the sand

That the blood now had soaked

She collapsed with a flag in her hand

A flag white as snow

A hero of war

Is that what they see

Just medals and scars

So damn proud of me

And I brought home that flag

Now it gathers dust

But it's a flag that I love

It's the only flag I trust

He said, "Son, have you seen the world?

Well what would you say, if I said that you could?"

*Hopes this doesn't start a debate on war etc*

Seriously? I thought it was great. I just liked how it started off idealistic, then ended up a bit disappointed and kind of sad. Plus I really sympathised with the soldier. Each to their own I guess.

Surely The Approaching Curve is worse? I really didn't like that song at all. It was just talking over a backing track. Except for the chorus, which was ok.

Just back from Antony & The Johnsons live.

Sounds like a cliche, but it was "truly magical", and I love that the "chats" were genuine chats. He asked what we wanted to talk about. It was brilliant.

I prefer the story told in the song Crippled By Pizza by HORSE The Band

Broadcast Yourself
Audio

An amazing song and an amazing story. Not your usual "pizza is bad for you" song, but a really sad story of how fat pizza can make you.

Im crippled by a simple decision or possibly possessed by a vision.

I've made a choice- I'll stand by.

I'll take one more bite then lay down and die.

...and that one treasure, thick golden crust and a layer of cheese.

I'll face the consequences OF MY UNQUENCHABLE NEED!

I'm crippled. I'm crippled. I'm crippled by pizza.

I'm crippled. I'm crippled and i can't go on.

I can't resist so I persist in this.

So delicious, pizza's powerful taste.

I seek, strike, and consume it every day.

It's shattered my colon and made me too fat to breathe.

I'm crippled. I'm crippled.

I'm crippled by each SLICE! SLICE! SLICE!

I'm crippled. I'm crippled.

I'm crippled and I can't go on.

My hunger, it hurts me just to turn around and flirt with me.

Each slice, a paradise, but in the end I'm twice the size.

I've made a choice that I'll stand by.

I'll take one more bite then I'll lay down and die.

PIZZA! PIZZA! I WANT PIZZA! JUST GIVE ME SOME FUCKING PIZZA!

I love Hero of War. I honestly couldn't pick out a "worst" Rise Against song, simply because I can't think of any I don't like.

Also, this doesn't make sense. Any other song is just singing over a backing track. The style used in Approaching Curve is just as valid as any other.

Nar i like The Approaching Curve. I think the talking parts really work well.

Everchanging acoustic is my favourite acoustic RA song.

I prefer the story told in the song Fire Coming Out of the Monkeys Head by Gorillaz.

Broadcast Yourself
Audio

An amazing song and an amazing story. Not your usual "metaphorical town of good-willed creatures being invaded by evil", but a really sad story of how evil invades a metaphorical town of good-willed creatures.

(Talking)

Once upon a time at the foot of a great mountain, there was a town where the people known as Happyfolk lived, their very existence a mystery to the rest of the world, obscured as it was by great clouds. Here they played out their peaceful lives, innocent of the litany of excess and violence that was growing in the world below. To live in harmony with the spirit of the mountain called Monkey was enough. Then one day Strangefolk arrived in the town. They came in camouflage, hidden behind dark glasses,no one noticed them: they only saw shadows. You see, without the Truth of the Eyes, the Happyfolk were blind.

(Singing)

Falling out of aeroplanes and hiding out in holes

Waiting for the sunset to come, people going home

Jump out from behind them and shoot them in the head

Now everybody's dancing the dance of the dead

The dance of the dead

The dance of the dead.

(Talking)

In time, the Strangefolk found their way into the higher reaches of the mountain, and it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable Sincerity and Beauty. By chance, they stumbled upon the place where all good souls come to rest. The Strangefolk, they coveted the jewels in these caves above all things, and soon they began to mine the mountain, its rich seam fueling the chaos of their own world. Meanwhile, down in the town, the Happyfolk slept restlessly, their dreams invaded by shadowy figures digging away at their souls. Every day, people would wake and stare at the mountain. Why was it bringing darkness into their lives? And as the Strangefolk mined deeper and deeper into the mountain, holes began to appear, bringing with them a cold and bitter wind that chilled the very soul of the Monkey. For the first time, the Happyfolk felt fearful for, they knew that soon the Monkey would stir from its deep sleep. Then there came a sound. Distant first, it grew into castrophany so immense it could be heard far away in space. There were no screams. There was no time. The mountain called Monkey had spoken. There was only fire. And then, nothing.

(Singing)

Oh, a little town in U.S.A

The time has come to see

There's nothing you believe you are

But where were you when it all came down on me

Did you come in now?

Also doubles as a good example of how talking can be good in a song.

As far as the actual music goes, I'm indifferent. I don't think it's great or terrible. But I just really liked the story and the sense of shame, especially in the last chorus.

Also, this doesn't make sense. Any other song is just singing over a backing track. The style used in Approaching Curve is just as valid as any other.

True. I just didn't like it because I didn't like the way the words were spoken. Not entirely sure why TBH.

Beat to that song's really good. Alburn - genius.

Anyone else getting up early to buy Muse tickets?

Oh hell yes. I'm up 8.55 sharp tomorrow - I wouldn't miss Muse for anything. Dunno how fast the tickets will sell out though - anybody got an idea? Will it be an F5 mash, or will it be a couple of days before tickets dry up?

Also, I noticed earlier that Channel 5 I think are using the riff from "Killing in the Name" for an advert, and it prompted the question in my mind - is that the greatest riff ever? I'm struggling to think of anything that beats it.

I'm guessing it will be an F5 mash, being Muse. I want those tickets so bad...
