Nintendos strategy - And why - 'they' cant copy it.

The reason the graphics processor is weaker than the other two is because firstly, they want to keep the cost down. You can make the most POWERFUL console in the world! And if you charge consumers a low price for it then you are going to make huge losses, which is why you end up having to charge the consumer a lot of money, which in turn cuts out the "true" mainstream audience that nintendo is targetting for.....You see you cant be cutting edge and mainstream at the same time....to hit the masses you need a mass market price. If you dont have a mass market price you wuill ony appeal to core gamers. Which doesent really create industry growth, which is waht nintendo is trying to do.

Also the more complex the graphics the more comlicated the game "usually" becomes....Realism is strived for in the industry and with that goal comes more complex movements and control. Nintendo has clearly recognised this....Market share is just a pie chart - Sony have loads, microsoft some, and nintendo a little - Now nintendo is not trying to steal away sonys or microsofts fans , they are trying to create their own sector if you will....bringing more people to the pie, thus enlargening their market share....You can already see this with DS..Nintendo are disrupting the market....Think about it...What happens if the Wii wins the sonsole war? Where will that leave Sony and Microsoft? They cant just add wiimote controls to their next console - as it wont change the fact that they HAVE to have highend graphics or their fanbase will dwindle rapidly, because the console is still soo expensive....Makes you think doesent it?

Nintendo are messing with Sony and Microsoft - Low end graphics - A strange controller - Low powered always online console......the others could never make a console like this - they are elctronic giants, and are expected to create HIGH-TECH, CUTTING EDGE - technology! So its going to be pretty hard for them to copy nintendos sucess.

Sony already copies Nintendo and MS could do the same if they wouldn't be happy with their way.

I don't get your point. MS could make a controller like the Wiimote aswell including high-end technology and the price would still be fair - because MS pays the bill - like Sony does because they are confident enough that they will make the money back with accessoires, online, games.

Nintendo makes a console where I pay the exact amount of money it costs including EU price bonus.

I'm kidding btw, but what you're saying is that Microsoft and Sony must have some sort of impediment stopping them copying Nintendo's strategy, the only interesting facet of which is the controller, which has been copied to some (admittedly crappy) extent, and if sources are to be believed, Microsoft are doing the same...

That's quite frankly ridiculous.

It's the 'I've-written-a-speech-about-something-we-all-know-for-years' syndrome all over again. We all know this - but you should point out that if Sony wants, they'll copy. And Sony can change it's business strategy just as easely as Nintendo can, it's not because they make technology that they have to go in that direction. In the end, we expected the same thing from Nintendo three years ago - no revolution, but just a next-generation HD console.

Nintendo changed angle on this and Sony can do that as well. They just don't think it's necessary right now. The advantage is: Nintendo will be seen as the real innovator in the next generation because they're doing it for a longer time. If all the rest do this 'revolution' they'll be too obvious copy-cats. If you make a controller shaped like a remote control, it will be a little to obvious. But I'de like to see them try.

Guys, funny pictures are nice. But, discuss or shut up. :)

why not just post your funny pics in the official thread.

Everyone copies each other. Sony do it, Microsoft do it, gasp! Even Nintendo do it!

But it only really matters to people in first school playgrounds.

Smart one. It's stupid to think that it won't be copied. In the end, it's only flatery for Nintendo to be copied. It's just so incrementaly stupid. There's something fundamentaly wrong with people thinking that Nintendo will be the only one with such a controller if ti's succesfull.

Nintendo knows it will be copied if they can make it succesfull - so they should be flattered that the competitors admit that Nintendo was right. And thinking of Sony and Microsoft copying it, it will probably feature way to many buttons. It would look more like a real remote control, wich is, again, not as attractive to grandfathers and mothers around the globe, because they do'nt seem to be able to read all those things above the buttons. LANG, SUBT, AUDI, STER, DOLB. It's hard life. This how PlayStation 4 codebooks will work: Press play, left, right, fast-forward, tv, language, audio, audio, OK, right, right, return, hit HOME while you're at it, push 1, 3, 6, 4, 2, 9, 8. Now you're at the select screen. Push left, right, subtitle, audio-track, dolby, serround, 2, 5, 0, 8, ...

Sounds like good fun.

I agree with most but who says that as games look better they become harder to play? They are not related at all game play and graphics dont effect each other you can have both so i guess i dont know were you are coming from there... The fact is nintendo has cheaper hardware and game play to its advantage...ps3 will not always cost 600 dollars and sony plans to keep it out for 10 years instead of the now custom 5...So in 5 years when nintendo releases there new system they will be playing be way behind in userbase compared to ps3 and 360...Sony and MS have 5 years to come up with a new way to play games but they can do it on the systems they already have...in 5 years nintendo will be starting over and I wonder if that is such a good thing
