antster1983 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I have been asked at the local youth club where I help out to look at buying a PS2 to replace the ageing PSone they have. I was wondering what the best games would be for this situation - the club has boys and girls aged between 10-15 years of age. They should be multiplayer and offer decent replay value. If any of you can help I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions.
The3rdChildren Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 If you want multiplayer, you should consider also investing in a GameCube - it's dirt cheap now (about £20?). GameCube offers far better multiplayer games as well. Sorry I can't help on the PS2 front.
Tellyn Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 A GameCube is much more fun for younger people, and it will save you at least 50 quid from buying a PS2. Smash Bros and Mario Kart are good games to get with it.
Guest Stefkov Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Smash bros would give the kids loads of fun but on the ps2, maybe SSX TRicky, thats pretty fun in mulitplayer. Gran Turismo. Well thats basically the mulitplayer games my brother has got on his ps2. Maybe some sports games like Fifa or Pro Evo. Maybe Madden NFL 07.

Yeah, the PS2 doesn't have a lot of multiplayer games and even then it's restricted by the two controller ports. Unrelated, but your signature quote is awesome.
dabookerman Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 He asked for a PS2, can we stick to the criteria. Now then: -PS2 -Youth Club Sounds like Pro Evo soccer and a nice beat em up.
Fierce_LiNk Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Anster: Will you looking into purchasing a multi-tap for four player games? Or, is it strictly 2 player games we're looking at?
rokhed00 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Crazy Frog Racer, those 12 year old love their Crazy Frog.
The fish Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Crazy Frog Racer, those 12 year old love their Crazy Frog. They should be shot. No, wait, my bad. Make that: they must be shot.:awesome:
McMad Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Get an Xbox, teenagers love Halo and Tony Hawks games, sorted. Fuckers never let me have a go to pwn them at the Youth Club I went to once.
The fish Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Get an Xbox, teenagers love Halo and Tony Hawks games, sorted. I second that notion. Though a Cube with Smash Bros. and TSFP would be good too-Timesplitters has the worlds best mapmaker (thats on a ratio of ease of use:flexibility, before the PC-game modders come and flame me.)
rokhed00 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Timesplitters has the worlds best mapmaker (thats on a ratio of ease of use:flexibility, before the PC-game modders come and flame me.) Farcry mapmaker > Timesplitters mapmaker.
The fish Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Farcry mapmaker > Timesplitters mapmaker. Point taken, but I'm more experienced with the TS one, and you can't have bots in FarCry, which make it a bit more interesting offline. On a side note: wow, my Firefox didn't know the word "offline"...
Ten10 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I find the problem with the ps2 is having to go out of your way to play multiplayer with more than two people. The burnout series is quite fun. Maybe have a look at trying to get super monkey ball since that always has great party games included.
antster1983 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Anster: Will you looking into purchasing a multi-tap for four player games? Or, is it strictly 2 player games we're looking at? Fierce_LiNk, A multitap is indeed a possibility. They want a PS2, as that is what they have explicity asked for. They have said they wanted something to complement my Wii. Besides, they have dancemats which they have used on the PSone. Regarding rokhed00, no I don't think I'll be buying anything related to that Terrible Tadpole. If the PS2 thing goes ahead I'll be the one buying the games.
Zell Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Tekken Tag/5 is always fun. Soul Caliber 2/3 also, TS2/FP, Burnout 3 are also good. And if they let you, GTA:SA co-op mode is a bit of a laugh.
Fierce_LiNk Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Ok, so a multitap is a possibility, eh? I can't name that many 4 player games, but there should be some cool party games. Off the top of my head: Tekken Tag Tournament (for a fighter) Pro Evo something (everyone loves footie games) GT3 One of the gtas. They're want to kill anything that moves. :p Maybe one of the WWE games? 4 players, that'd be a blast.
Zell Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Shit how could I have forgotten PES? Too tired. Also how about Guitar Hero or SingStar?
Fierce_LiNk Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Yeah, get them on board as well. Any platformers? I think they can be a bit of fun for people to play. Take it in turns to play a bit each. They'd love that. Rayman? Jak and daxter?
Meik Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Any of the Buzz games, they are surprisingly fun. Also any of the Smackdown games, they are a blast with 4 players. And Eyetoy Play.
Roostophe Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Guitar Hero 1 & 2, get them into decent music. Pro Evo 6, Manchester United are licensed on this one.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Any platformers? I think they can be a bit of fun for people to play. Take it in turns to play a bit each. They'd love that. Rayman? Jak and daxter? For platformers, here is few choices with that you can't really go wrong: * Sly Cooper series * Jak & Dakter series * Ratchet & Clank series * Rayman 2 & 3 For multiplayer experience: * Crash Nitro Kart (poor single player, but terrific with four players) * Timesplitters 2 * Pro Evolution Soccer * Tekken Tag Tournament * Smackdown vs. Raw For dance mats: * Dancing Stage Fusion * Dancing Stage Max (Warning: It's really bitch to unlock songs)
AshMat Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 At my old youth club we had Rayman: M on the Ps2, everyone loved that.
Fierce_LiNk Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 For platformers, here is few choices with that you can't really go wrong:* Sly Cooper series * Jak & Dakter series * Ratchet & Clank series * Rayman 2 & 3 For multiplayer experience: * Crash Nitro Kart (poor single player, but terrific with four players) * Timesplitters 2 * Pro Evolution Soccer * Tekken Tag Tournament * Smackdown vs. Raw For dance mats: * Dancing Stage Fusion * Dancing Stage Max (Warning: It's really bitch to unlock songs) Good list, imo. Not really sure how I can add to that. Maybe one of the SSX games, tricky for example. I enjoyed that, and its a pretty cool game to just pick up and play. Maybe a Tony Hawks title, too?
antster1983 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 Thanks for the suggestions guys Keep 'em coming! I'm trying not to pick GTA or 18+ games because as I said, it's for a youth club, and we find those games are inapproriate for the club.
