triforce_keeper Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Sorry mate it's against the rules to discuss anything illegal here unfortunately I'm not gunna post anything illegal so I'll leave it up to the mods/admins. Sorry dude.
Meo Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I think Ubuntu might be a good distribution for you. It has a great community, always ready to help out, and it is extremely easy to configure. Also, it has a great graphical interface for downloading some apps, which is a great help for someone who doesn't know how to handle a console. You can download it here: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/GetUbuntu/download?action=show&redirect=download But even if you don't like, there's no problem, really. It is a liveCD, so you are always free to try it out without even installing it. If you like it, you can always install it. Any further question you have, you can always go to their forums, I'm sure their members will be able to help you out. EDIT: Sorry mate it's against the rules to discuss anything illegal here unfortunately I'm not gunna post anything illegal so I'll leave it up to the mods/admins. Sorry dude. This as nothing to do with piracy.

Sorry dude. ... Back to topic: If you have reasonable knowledge about computers you could also try debian or fedora.

Bogbas Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Linux..... I don't know if your brave, or stupid Mandrake and RedHat popular ones? I don't know Linux never agreed with me I don't think there is redhat anymore it's now fedora core. Mandrake has also changed its name. It's now mandriva. Although I think there's still a redhat version for business market. I managed to get gentoo installed on this machine a while back. But having an ati card is bad if one wants to run linux. And the motherboard isn't fully supported yet. Now I'm waiting if the next kernel would solve some issues.

Sorry dude. I had to quote you. I would also recommend ubuntu, its easy, has great hardware support, big community, and a simple interface.
triforce_keeper Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 LOL i feel so stupid haha! Tired. Thats my excuse :P
Bogbas Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 And it seems that soon it's possible to install ubuntu from windows. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/install.exe/Prototype I think that's a bit too easy.
Raining_again Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Suse is quite good, i used it without too much problem. And it comes with a lot of software on it.
Cube Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I tried Ubuntu once. It rejected my USB modem, and left Linux stuck on the bootup screen.
Raining_again Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I tried Ubuntu once. It rejected my USB modem, and left Linux stuck on the bootup screen. I had problems with a USB mouse too...refused to recognise it and crashed on the installation program
Ginger_Chris Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Sorry mate it's against the rules to discuss anything illegal here unfortunately I'm not gunna post anything illegal so I'll leave it up to the mods/admins. Sorry dude. Absolute gold of a post. I know its a hard concept that you can get something for free in this modern capitalist society, but thats the whole point of Open Source. I'm going to recommend Ubuntu aswell. I've been using it for about a year and it haven't really got any complaints with it (apart from gaming, but a windows partition sorts that out). Ubuntu has a lot of Community support, which is the main plus point, someone will already have had most problems you'll have and there'll be solutions to them on the forums. I'm glad your trying it, more people should
DCK Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I've been using some distributions like OpenSUSE and Fedora Core, but I never could get something to actually work. At all. It's a shame really, because Linux should be great.
