pedrocasilva Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Those games were just magical, and this game lacks that magic.I kinda disagree, we could have expected it to be more epic but that's about it. If we did we just expected to much, with OoT most of us didn't really expect that much, thus the mark it leaved on us. The same can be said when too much is expected of a game. Also our ages changed in the process, for some of us... Zelda OoT was in 1998. It's still the best Zelda game ever for me, even if it shows points that could be improved, the bar was still lifted above the standard for other zeldas, also this queries are only due to the game being realistic, I mean... WW didn't had city's full of people, it also felt kinda empty, but these city NPC's had more personality to them, what I'm saying is that due to the big city of the game and being zelda we feel the need to interact with them, know their stories and that simply isn't there, but truth to be told, it doesn't matter for the mainquest and it would be pretty darn hard given how the development begun, just look at Hyrule Town screens from august 2005 and you'll see what I mean, zelda needed/needs a whole "sub-team" doing city character backgrounds, sidequests and such, but that should have begun with the game development. MM set the bar high in this, but it had 30 characters, but how many would be needed in this Hyrule town? I think Nintendo just set themselfes for improvement being possible on Wii. About the Ending... for me... the best in the series after OoT's ending, enough said. :p
Emasher Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 i think this is the best zelda ever. do any of you remember that post that someone made asuming most of the people in hyrule castle town could not be talked to i guess they were right. i'm hoping that this game has a good replay value, usualy games that are short do. though if you've beat the game put any second playthrough bonuses in spoiler tags. maybe the reason this game is'nt magical is it has no magic arows or mirorr sheild (though if i'm wrong dont tell me.
LazyBoy Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Yeah the ending was pretty damn brilliant especially: Minda's transformations into those giant monsters, AWESOME O.K. my nitpicks -I don't know if I missed something but there wasn't a Fierce Diety Mask sized sidequest, I know only MM has a sidequest this size but I still hold out hope -Yeah you were rushed into the last two dungeons too fast -NO TINGLE -I wanted to see Link and Ilia re-unite at the end, it was seriously heart-renching -Yeah I felt that there was a lacking of impeading doom as well I had real trouble thinking of those. Right a few awesome things for me. -Sumo wrestling -Canoeing -Fishing (my arms are pumped) -Double hookshot -The Sky Temple boss -The entire snowpeak bit -Ball on a chain -Navigating your way around the world -The lost village -The charge-up jump attack -Horse-riding generally -The cut-scenes -Monkeys -Escorting the horse & wagon I'm probably forgetting a lot.
The3rdChildren Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 im stuck on the water temple, ive just beaten the mini boss and unlocked the extra room with vines on the top floor... i just dont have a clue on what to do next... Use the clawshot, my son.

Okay I can't remember exactly which bit this is, but I think: You have to go back to that main room with the chandalier and hang from the points on the ceiling. They should move the staicase around. Now you want to do that so the water flows down the stairs. If you've already done that tell me.
motion Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 OoT was grounbreaking. It brought Zelda into 3D, had an epic quest, fantastic music, great graphics at the time, an awesome storyline and a real interesting concept in the past/future timelines. It revolutionised not only Zelda, but 3D RPGs in general, and made jaws drop with every cut scene. Obviously if Twilight Princess was released in 1998 instead of OoT (with graphics of the time) it would have been just as incredible, if not more so. As it is however, TP seems to be lacking that special touch, something that makes it groundbreaking in it's own right. That combined with niggles and small disappointments here and there throughout the game + hype the likes of which the gaming world hasn't seen often has made sure that the game will never be as heralded as OoT.
Maverick Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 So i finally got my wii been playing some red steel, a lil wii sports then i put in this game WOW it is amazing and i am saying this after spending like 20 minutes getting that damn fish argh but anyway i aint even got a sword yet and i can't deny the beauty of this game.

I don't think it was meant to be. It's a GameCube game that Nintendo set out make the best Zelda game ever. Whilst rose-tinting will never allow it to beat Ocarina of Time it's still a very fine game and a solid entry in the Zelda series. If you keep playing a Zelda looking for an Ocarina experience, you're always going to come away disappointed. Nintendo's greatest accomplishment in the series is also their biggest enemy.
Hellfire Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I doubt I'll have memories from this game like the ones I have from OoT, but there's no doubt in my mind that this game is better and the best game made to date.
Emasher Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 i've got it. ITS MISSING TINGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you there. To be honest, we're never going to see a game 'beat' Ocarina of Time. It's a classic. Plus, the timing of it all. The first 3D Zelda. It also just so happens to be seen by many as the greatest game ever made. The only way I can really see anyone loving newer Zelda games more than OoT is if they play the newer ones first. It was different for us guys. We were there during its release, and the N64 era. We've got so many memories of that game.
Platty Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I dunno TP is coming pretty close to OOT. I didnt really get into Majora's mask but damn TP is so addictive and im loving every moment of it.
fanman Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I prefer this game to ocarina. The control is so much smoother, and it's a lot more fun. Currently in the forest temple.
motion Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Surely you can't say it's better than OoT having played only a few hours? Wait till you get further in and see if you still prefer it. I was like you once
The3rdChildren Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Nothing can ever truly beat nostalgia, but the fact Nintendo came so close with Twilight Princess is nothing short of brilliance. We as Zelda fans were always going to nitpick Twilight Princess, but we need to remember we already have the perfect Zelda just sitting there in Ocarina, so let's get on with enjoying what's good about the newer Zeldas and leave what isn't giving us the same feeling Ocarina did at home. It isn't even really fair to compare the two. People of course will and I certainly have, but as I said above... how can you possibly beat nostalgia? If I'm going to compare a Zelda game to another I'm going to compare it to the most recent one... and, as good as it was and still is, Twilight Princess absolutely abolishes mostly everything about Wind Waker.
fanman Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Surely you can't say it's better than OoT having played only a few hours? Wait till you get further in and see if you still prefer it. I was like you once I'm still hyped with it. As I said, the gameplay is a lot smoother and it's more intuitive. Ocarina was great, but only good for it's time. I didn't play it in 1998, I played it in around 2003
motion Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Right I'm off to play it! Trying to prolong it a bit before heading to the 7th temple so will do some side-questing. I have to say I think there was more sidequesting to be done in Wind Waker. MUCH more. Or maybe I just haven't discovered all the stuff to do.
Hellfire Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 i've got it. ITS MISSING TINGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy at the star game is totally Tingle, but more macho. You that guys that try to be macho men are gay. He's Tingle. Right I'm off to play it! Trying to prolong it a bit before heading to the 7th temple so will do some side-questing. I have to say I think there was more sidequesting to be done in Wind Waker. MUCH more. Or maybe I just haven't discovered all the stuff to do. Well. you had all those treasures in WW, but they were cheap sidequests. secret caves + fishing + fishing minigame + bait fishing + poes + bugs and some other stuff, it has more than WW for sure.
Fierce_LiNk Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I don't want this game to end. The last few days, I've been seriously addicted to it. I wish I could play the whole game through in a day, and then relive that day over and over again. Like Groundhog day. But noooo. We're stuck with real life. And it sucking fucks!
The3rdChildren Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Right I'm off to play it! Trying to prolong it a bit before heading to the 7th temple so will do some side-questing. I have to say I think there was more sidequesting to be done in Wind Waker. MUCH more. Or maybe I just haven't discovered all the stuff to do. There does seem to have been more side-questing in Wind Waker than Twilight Princess... but the only ones that immediately spring to mind are the butterfly necklaces and the trading sequence? Oh! The figurines too, which I never did because it seemed like something that would take forever. I guess they filled the disc to capacity seeing as the game itself is absolutely huge for one GameCube disc. What little side questing there is to be found is pretty good though, but this is certainly one of the few aspects about the game that truly disappointed me. I can't help but wonder if they could have squeezed in more sidequests. It's not enough to ruin the game, mind, but just enough to make daddy hurt.

Shorty Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Man just got the expensive armour and it's rubbish. I bet that was originally supposed to use Magic not rupees Bah.
Fierce_LiNk Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Just about to have a bash at this. I've been playing it at midnight the last few days. Un-interupted. No distractions. Plus...Twilight Princess..Midnight Hour. Hehe, see what I did there.
Hellfire Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Man just got the expensive armour and it's rubbish. I bet that was originally supposed to use Magic not rupees Bah. I think it's awesome, because there are lots of rupees lying around, so you can use it in battles and not get wounded. Besides, it's an original concept and it gives money some use
