david.dakota Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Its clear that for some features, you'll need to update via WiiConnect24, but i'm not sure what these update are for. I think one is designed to open up Wii Shop, but what others are out there?
Guest Jordan Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 There was another recently to activate parental controls, in the last 48 hours i think.
Charlie Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 SD cards didn't work until the initial US update either.
AshMat Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I say we should have last things first, or second things, but nooooo.
ShadowV7 Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I think the first update is for SD cards and somewhere said that the second update was for the region coding or something.Whether or not it was true I dunno.
flameboy Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 don't think the second was for region coding....
Nintendork Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 If you don't have the internet your Wii will not reckognise CDs OMFG. It thinks it's a toaster!
Kurtle Squad Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 So in other words the Wii sucks if you can't connect it to the internet?
Guest Jordan Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 So in other words the Wii sucks if you can't connect it to the internet? Well, its not like you have an excuse to be honest. Wireless is easy to set up and cheap if not just go the wired route, most computers have an ethernet port.
Aimless Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 So in other words the Wii sucks if you can't connect it to the internet? European units apparently come pre-patched. (I'll update with a source if I remember where I read it...)
Nintendork Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 No need to source it, Yarnton said it would. But it's not necessarily the final. It's just functional.
Zell Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 You're pretty much in the minority if you can't get your wii connected. And let's face it, if you don't have an internet connection you're a technophobe who's gonna stay clear of games consoles.
Goron_3 Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 You're pretty much in the minority if you can't get your wii connected. And let's face it, if you don't have an internet connection you're a technophobe who's gonna stay clear of games consoles. Yeah thats too true. If you don't have the internet, then tbh you've been under a rock these past years.
Emasher Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 There was another recently to activate parental controls, in the last 48 hours i think. i downloaded this update yesterday it was also a game update for the wii shop channel (turbo grafix had been added along with some more genis games.) and yes to use the sd card you need too conect and download the first update.
Nintendork Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Actually uptake of the internet is only at about 50% and that's probably the best in the West. Only places that rival us are Japan and Korea. So the idea that you can make up statistics like you're in the minority is funking bollocks. For those of you who are unaware Nintendo controls production of disc and cartridge media is able to offer firmware updates inside game discs. Mario Kart DS for instance had a patch in it I was told. So you don't need the internet really.. you do need to buy a game every couple of months if you don't.
david.dakota Posted December 2, 2006 Author Posted December 2, 2006 How does one actually get these updates? Are they automatic, when you connect, or do you have to manually do it? If manual, do you select particular updates of interest, or is everything ties up to one download?
Emasher Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 well on the settings there is a button that allows you to do a manuel update. (for some reason they dont download over wii conect 24, wii connect 24 isn't just keeping the system on for updates its the diference between having to turn the thing on to eject the disk or a yellow or red light. maybe the downloading updates automaticly isn't active yet.)
Kurtle Squad Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Wireless is easy to set up and cheap if not just go the wired route, most computers have an ethernet port. I have to say that not always the case at all.
Tellyn Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Some people don't have broadband or Internet, as is the case with three of my friends who were convinced by me to get a Wii. One of them is actually using their computer and broadband money to get the Wii and Twilight Princess.
Mokong Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 this reminds me i need to write down my routers WEP codes so i have them ready. How quick is it to find the Wii's MAC-Address... is it on a sticker on the Wii somewhere, or do you have to find it in a menu like the DS?
Guest Stefkov Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Doesnt look like I'm getting a wireless router any time soon. Looks like i have to go wired. PS i had a thought of something pretty cool, on the wii menu channels the disc one has that disc behind it. I thought it would be cool if you pulled it by pressing A+B together on it and pulled it to the side, it qould eject the disc in there.
demonmike04 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I tried many ways to get my DS online, AOL aint having fucking any of it.
Nintendork Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I tried many ways to get my DS online, AOL aint having fucking any of it. Try putting your routers IP into the browser and screwing with the settings. I got AOL cheapo version to work in 10 minutes.
