Is a good processor enough to deal with decoding 1080p HD? I want to build a new PC in a month, but I want to wait until ATI release their Evergreen processors at the end of the year before buying a graphics card to go with it. I'm thinking about getting the following so far: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164047 £146.18 Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory Kit CL9 1.5: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166995 £44.31 Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H 785G Socket AM3 DVI VGA HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/170230 £69.07 LG CH08LS10 Super Multi Blu-Ray Reader & DVD±RW with LightScribe SATA Black - Full Retail Box With Software http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169682 £79.99 I have a hard drive, case and PSU, but I need to have a look at the latter and I'm sure that I'll need to replace it. Any suggestions on the wattage? Edit: I suppose that the motherboard comes with integrated ATI 4200 HD graphics. I guess that will be enough.

That doesn't look like CoD4 to me. I wonder what the bit with the nuclear explosion will look like.

I'd cease to be god and then when crazy people argued that there was one, I'd tell them that it wasn't true...

Have you seen Chungking Express? I'm not one for love stories, but that film stayed in my head for ages and the atmosphere of Hong Kong created by Wong Kar Wai (the director) was great. Faye's character and the second part of the story made it for me.
-
Actress: Faye Wong She was great in Chungking Express and I like her music even more. Actor: Arnold Schwarzenegger? Countless classic action films.

The Chinese actually use the same word for lend and borrow and they often make this mistake when speaking English.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers.:awesome: They are the dog of choice for chav scum and they hang around with these dogs as if the dogs are actually something to be scared of... umm, no. I dislike all fighting dogs and the chavs/men with small penises that usually own them.

Do you know if Belkin products are supported somehow? I might give it a try if I knew that I could buy some sort of dongle and have it work straight away.

I installed Ubuntu a couple of years ago and it was a nightmare. I couldn't get my wifi to work, despite following step by step instructions to wrap the driver.

I like that wood and all of the moss. I plan on creating an environment like that one day, minus the poison dart frog!

Yeah, choosing what language or software to use could be likened to an artist choosing what materials to use to paint a picture. It is interesting to know what people are learning, how they are learning it and what their preferences are. Do you like C#? My gf is an IT executive/software engineer and she uses it and scoffs at people using Javascript as if it is out dated. I'd really like to know what it can be used for and how, but I bet that would involve learning it at some point. When you use C#, do you need to use Visual Web Developer? I find Visual Web Developer fascinating, but it seems like they expect you to either know C# or VB to take full advantage of it. That's an incredibly useful list of sites and tools, thanks. It's a shame that I didn't know about Xampp. The book I am using focuses a lot on jQuery and I will be learning about it over the weekend. The next 200 pages are dedicated to it. jQuery makes Javascript really appealing. I will look into Mootools and the book also mentions Yahoo, Prototype and Dojo. I've never heard of a CMS before, so it is interesting that you and Shorty have brought that up. The fact that I've never heard about one before makes me feel really dumb. Do you guys have any advice on what to use or how to set up a CMS for a web site?

I drink milo or hot choc. Milo is good because it has added vitamins and the milk is good for building muscle. Milo has a small amount of cocoa and I believe that cocoa has caffeine

ok ok, so he can be "considerate" and use his MP3 player in the living room while he is dancing around to his idol Bjork or he can connect them up to his Dell speakers and save a few watts... but what if he wants to listen to her while he is having a bath or shower? I am partially convinced, but I am not entirely there. You wouldn't want to get the earphones wet and the Dell speakers aren't going to be any good.. for £4 more he could have got an 8GB Samsung P3, which comes with a built in speaker.
-
Fair enough, but you'd probably damage your ears after a while if you constantly wore them. My 32 inch monitor's speaker has brilliant sound quality and although a decent PMP offers better sound quality, listening to music through a speaker is a lot more convenient than being tied to something all the time. EDIT: might as well add that if he is listening to music through headphones, then he might as well just connect them to his PC. Is that what he is going to spend his next JSA pay packet on? I might be wrong and perhaps he has something that can be connected to the 3.5mm jack, but I don't.
-
Wow, do you guys listen to music through earphones while indoors? Is there something wrong with you lot? Ever heard of speakers?
-
This is an MP3 player that he can only use out of the house, so it will motivate him to go out and look for jobs, what's so bad about that? Good luck Villan and make sure that you pay your parents back for supporting you when you get the chance. Looking after you is probably more costly than you think. As for the JSA, my food bill (around £145, but that includes £30 for my terrapin's sea food:heh:), internet and phone bills come to £185 a month.. I also pay my mum £180 a month, so JSA would be impossible for me in the long term...

Did you two use books or learn from online tutorials? I used to play around with it a lot when I was young, but found everything but the basics really hard to do. I bet there is so much to learn and I was pretty clueless about what to do back then. Some people are more creative than others!
-
There are quite a few people here have dabbled in web design, various programming languages and Photoshop and I would like to know what all of you have picked up and how long it took you. I am really not sure of everything that I want to learn, but so far it's gone like this: Feb-May: HTML, XHTML and CSS June: A bit of ASP.NET 2.0 using Visual Web Developer 2008. This was really frustrating as the ebook steps simply didn't work because they were out dated (I need one for 3.5) and I put this on hold. I set up Apache, Mysql and PHP to learn all of these, but didn't realise that I needed a web server! I've put these on hold indefinitely, after spending ages setting everything up! July - Present: Javascript.. I have been really lazy with it just recently, but I've devoted the entire weekend to it and I am really enjoying it! Javascript is incredibly powerful and can do so much when I think about what I've learnt so far. I am learning from Javascript: The Missing Manual and I am on page 150 out of 500 so far. I've just finished learning the basics and the next few chapters look very promising. I want to finish the book in a couple of months if I can. I am getting through it way too slowly. After I've learnt Javascript, I will learn Ajax and .NET or something similar. I eventually want to learn how to create websites using ASP.NET and might take up C#, but I'm not so sure at the moment. I've got some pretty funky ideas for really dynamic and smart websites, but I will only start working on them after mastering Javascript. I was thinking about learning Flash, but I have never liked using it.

Thanks, I will give it a go. I will finally put my Chinese lunch box to good use.
