Virtual Console - All you need to know
Smiter replied to Tellyn's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Aw, it's a shame that the Megadrive version of VF2 was a 2D fighter. If only it was a surprise Saturn download, though I suppose we'd need to have a hard drive (or at least some sort of software patch allowing games to be run off SD cards). Virtua Fighter 2 would have been an awesome start to a Saturn library on the VC. -
I think I'll be getting SSX Blur for my birthday, so my next definite purchase is Paper Mario. It's been nice to see more third-party games for the Wii, even if some of them were lazy ports. For there to already be solid titles is good news and things can only get better from here on as more devs lend their support. Here's hoping for some truly unique games we'll fondly remember for the rest of our lives, like we do with Zelda OOT, GoldenEye, and other classics.

Zelda Excite Truck Paper Mario (if you can wait until end of April - if not, Sonic is worth a look) Personally, I didn't like Red Steel. I quickly adapted to the controls, but I kept finding bugs and some shoddy stuff so I exchanged it for Excite Truck. It's a shame, Red Steel began well but fell apart later. Hopefully Ubisoft will address the flaws in Red Steel 2 and polish it to a much higher degree. If you like retro games, you could always get 1 or 2 VC points cards instead of a game - 2000 points will get you a few games.

Aw, it's a shame that the points exchange doesn't appear to be working properly. It would have been sweet to get almost 6000 Wii Points for the VC! Looking on the bright side, it does show Nintendo Europe ARE doing something for Stars=Points and not just sitting around on their arses. Even if they could have just done their testing on a private server (or at least posted a clear warning to NOT download instead of just "Astrid Test"). I hope that those who lost their points will be refunded or given their 1000 Wii Points in the end.

Not a bad week, but I'll be saving my points for Story of Thor next week. ALTTP is a classic, most probably the best 2D Zelda ever. It was also my first Zelda game. But I still have the SNES original and the GBA port, and have played it to death. Not much point in buying another copy of the same game. -
You can't "future-proof" anything. All you can do is hope it lasts for years. The most obvious application is... PC. :P Shops keep selling "future-proof" PCs which only last a few years. You simply can't predict what will be developed in technology. The PS3 does certainly have pretty-looking graphics, but it's not that far advanced from Xbox360 at the moment. LittleBigPlanet looks sweet, but I admit I'm taking that with a pinch of salt at the moment. Prerendered "real time" Killzone2/MGS4/Motorstorm anyone? For traditional-style gaming with HD graphics, the Xbox360 is the better deal. £300 gets you a Premium with two games at GAME. That's £125 cheaper than the PS3 (with no game). You can download games and HDTV content with it. There's even a new Xbox360 with HDMI output and 120GB HDD coming out in the US at the end of April (story is on Kotaku). Wii is off to a slow start (speaking in software terms), but the third-party support is looking better (even if Ubisoft keeps shovelling crap at us - Rayman was still good though), and there are big hitters still to come this year. The majority of people do not have a HDTV, and Joe Public will never splurge £425+ for a games console. Once the big games hit, I think Wii will go from strength to strength, same as what happened with the DS (Slow start -> omgwtf sales).

Sega confirmed games for UK/AU Virtual Console on April 6th: Sonic Spinball Vectorman Story of Thor Source: http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/774/774536p1.html I'm really looking forward to Story of Thor. It caught my eye when I was a kid, reading GamesMaster magazine. Never got to play it. -
You'll get £25 for Red Steel. I traded that in for Excite Truck, I only had to pay £9 (or less, I just remembered I also got a Wii game rack). Well worth it, I had far more fun in 10 mins of Excite Truck, than I did in nearly 10 hours of Red Steel. I'll be asking for SSX Blur for my birthday, it's amazing that it's already near its release. It was only a couple of months back that we learnt of it, wasn't it?
-
I'll be getting this. Going to walk into GAME Friday morning, and trade in Red Steel to get some money off. Hopefully Red Steel will knock a decent amount off of the price.

More than happy with it. For the first time, the whole family is playing games together, and everyone is really enjoying themselves. A bout of Wii Sports with friends, family, even your own parents/grandparents, is priceless. Tonight, I'm taking the Wii over to a friend's place and we're going to have a big Wii party. Most of my friends have never played on Wii before, and this is the first time I can show them the console so this should be really interesting. To me, Wii isn't just a console with added waggle. It's really brought in a whole new social gaming experience.

Telltale seeking for Wii programmer to port PC games
Smiter replied to Teppo Holmqvist's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Hmm, is it just me, or did I remember some interview with the guy in charge of Sam & Max saying he likes the Wii? I've never played the new Sam & Max episodes, but I would be interested if they ported that over to Wii with AT LEAST a few episodes (preferably the whole adventure, but that's a pipe dream) on the disc. More adventure games on the Wii would be awesome. -
Just a little snippet of news from IGN: http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/756/756832p1.html I wish they could have revealed more, but this could be promising. Inafune's games are Dead Rising and Lost Planet for the 360, both excellent games. Could he make a Wii exclusive with equally high production standards?

Pfft... Ah well, at least Wario Ware comes out tomorrow. LMAO @ Cooky and David for saying exactly the same thing at exactly the same time. -

I was half-right last week when Super Mario Bros. came out. I'm hoping that my failed guess - Street Fighter II - comes good this week. If it does come out though, I might hold off for Super Street Fighter II or Turbo. I don't want half-a-dozen variations of the same basic game. -
Hm, I've never watched the Godfather, nor have I played the games. But I think this looks interesting. If the controls work as well as EA are suggesting they do, then this could be a fun title. I'm not rushing to get a preorder in, but I'll keep an eye on this title.

Drat, Dante beat me to it. :P He really must be a robot, posting at 3:23am... (hope you got some sleep) Yeah, Sony's PR gave us another spadeful of bulls**t. Not only was the Emmy really for the Dual Shock, a pad that came out for the PS1, but one was also awarded to Nintendo for their invention of the D-pad! Lesson learnt: Never believe a single thing Sony says, unless it is independently verified. I never believed their "sold" *cough*shipped*cough* stats, but I fell for this one.

This happened to me yesterday, but I solved the error by looking it up on http://www.wiierror.com Very useful site with a good list of errors/fixes.

I'm placing bets on Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter 2 coming out tomorrow. I'll probably lose. :p I really can't wait for the day Super Street Fighter 2 comes out on VC. SF2 Turbo was also the reason I saved all my pocket/birthday money and bought a SNES. Ahh... memories. -
No problem. They despatched my Wiimote today, so I should get it by the weekend. Looking forward to Wario Ware next week.

Funny how nobody seems to have mentioned this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Wii-Remote-Controller/dp/B000IMWK2G/ref=br_lf_m__1_4_img/026-5665493-3420446?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=videogames They're in stock there! *nabs one* EDIT: Hopefully I've now got a full array of four Wiimotes for tennis doubles fun.
-
I never buy it. A few workmates buy it and leave it in the canteen and I read it for free to pass the time. Funniest bit of that article was: "problems with the console slipping out of peoples' hands". Oh noes! First the Wiimote, and now the Wii is slipping out of gamers' greasy mitts! Now Nintendo will have to make a wrist strap for the console! Online news sites FTW. Free and better than the Sun.
-
I flipped through today's Sun while taking a break at work. In the corner of one page (forgot the number) was a tiny blue box about the Wii. It was asking readers to report problems with their Wiis to the Sun's news e-mail! Who knows what we'll see next. :p "NINTENDO RUINED MY XMAS"

There's only one set of lights near the sensor bar, and I can get rid of the interference by lowering the sensitivity. Ah, you just have to love the way the media make mountains out of molehills...

Me too, me too... Idiotic, really, to have 480p but no component inputs. Ah well. Hopefully there'll be a modded/third-party/offical VGA cable one day. Got my RGB cable today and had a quick game of Wii Sports. Much better than composite. : peace:
