IGN confirmed some time ago that development kits for Wii would be significantly cheaper, as well as Reggie. With an updated look, warioworld.com now confirms it, by allowing the possiblity of ordering Wii dev kits, with an estimate price that ranges from 2,500$ to 10,000$. Even in its highest price form, it is still cheaper than other development kits of other systems. http://www.warioworld.com/apply/wii.html

What is the worst Nintendo 64 game you ever played
Meo replied to british lad's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Hexen 64. It is so good that it even burns your eyes. -
Nintendo bets on innovation, but even its fanboys continue moaning about graphics. Have them ever failed you on the graphics department? Have a bit on faith on Nintendo...

Well said. My cube has the ATI badge too, and it was bought in the summer of 2003.

Nintendo is marketing this new console as a simple, intuitive, user-friendly machine. It would be a shot on the foot, really. Yes, they have done it in the past, and yes, it is an interesting theory. But keep in mind that it would be highly unfeasable to create ports that would handle such high bandwiths. Furthermore, it would rise the production costs. And if you think about the marketing, well, that simply rules out that chance. Imagine advertising such upgrades to people that has never played games in their lives, and people that isn't used to the PC world. It would scare them off. This isn't about power anymore, like in the N64 days, it's about simplicity.

Quoted for truth.

It's an interesting theory, yes. Recently, in GDC, Iwata said that the Brain Age, before release, was initially distributed to the employees of NCL, so they could bring those copies home and show then to their family and friends. The word of those amazing games started to spread, and now, you can see the result of those words in sales charts. A similar situation might happen with "Wii". They already said that people must try it to understand it. George Harrison said they were thinking of including a second remote. And if the logo is any indication, it seems to point to plurality, of people, and controllers. So, it might happen, yes.

obrigado, hellfire:wink:

Thanks Nintendork, its good to be back . Yes, I too believe that "Wii" will do fine in Japan. I imagine that they will get a major piece of the market share there. But the West... well, we will see. We all know that strange names generally generate new trends, and I can see that happening with "Wii". To be honest, I like the concept. It's fresh, it's innovative, and it's DIFFERENT. It is well tought, and it is remembered easily. Wasn't that the goal of Nintendo, to create something new? Isn't it the goal that we all have been supporting?

Keep in mind that the future of the console is not going to be decided by its name just because you English people have the slang word "wee". Remember, the English language might be the most used language in the world, but you might start dropping your immature jockes and realize that the world is bigger than you think, and that that word doesn't mean anything to the rest of the world population. UK and it's jockes isn't going to break the sucess of the console. Impressive, one month ago everybody said that graphics don't matter, gameplay does, and all of the sudden everybody starts complaining about the systems name. Gameplay rules, huh?

Well, this isn't really an easy task. There are so many good games that I have played on my nintendo systems, that it is almost unfair to pick just 5. Ah well, I'll put the ones that come to my mind right now: Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time My... God... Super Mario 64 The masterpiece that defined the standard of platform games. Superb. F-Zero GX I'm surprise to see that nobody mentioned this game. Fast-paced, beautiful, easy to play, difficult to master, great music (Mute City and Big Blue ). Star Wars - Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike One of the few games that gave me a true Star Wars feeling. Less difficult than Rogue Squadron 2, but still challenging enough to provide a better experience than the previous one. A great pollygon-pusher. The multi-player is awesome. Resident Evil 4 Never liked the resident evil series. Until this game came out. Brilliant.

Merging wouldn't be a bad idea, surely. Actually, I wouldn't mind if Nintendo Spain turn out to "Iberian Nintendo":P

Yes, it seems that Poland and Portugal suffers from the same problem. Although there were some petitions over here to try to chance the distributor, it seems that we have the same luck as Poland. All the games we have in our stores are GBA and a few DS titles.I can't remember the last time I saw a GC title in a store, really. All the games I have for GC were bought on gaming sites.(quem já foi à worten ou vobis sabe do que estou a falar )... *Still dreaming for a REAL Nintendo distribution in Portugal*...

Silver or Black.Or a NES Special Edition:D.

My faith is gone... I tought this guy died... him, and his blog.... It seems I was celebrating to soon... *Screams* WHY WON'T THIS GUY GIVE UP????????

Demonmike, Nintendo hasn't confirmed yet if Revolution will have 512 mb of RAM. But they do have confirmed (like SystemError said) that the console will have 512 mb of flash memory built-in to allow storage of downloaded stuff, among other things...

Yes, I don't think that the gap between the consoles will be THAT big, despite the commentaries of the so-called "inside-developers". Really, I don't think that the results will be very different between all consoles. Have Nintendo ever released a less powerful console than their competition? Until now, no. Tecnically, yes, Revolution might not have all "specs sheet" that PS3 & XBOX360 have, but still, Revolution will give fight to these consoles. Gamecube had lower specs than Xbox, but still, I haven't seen a Resident Evil 4 on a Xbox. In the end, it all comes to efficiency. And there is another keyword associated to Revolution: HDTV (ehr....or lack of ). This single detail alone tells us that we won't be able see diferences between all consoles on a normal TV, at least, for a while. And honestly, do Sony and Microsoft think that HDTV will become an industry standard in the next 5/6 years. I know I won't be buying one... They are beeing to much egocentric, at least. 480p is enough for me and for most people. This mesure only raises the manufacturing price, and we, consumers, will feel this on our pockets. But I don't think technical specs are going to be Nintendo's biggest challenge. Their biggest challenge is marketing. Anyone who has been atentive about this industry surely knows that marketing is a company's best friend. Look what it is has done for Sony. Ps2 is the most underpowered & developer-unfriendly console in the market, and yet, most people percieve ps2 as the "most powaful console" in the market. Nintendo has to make their products desirable, just like sony does with their gadgets. For now, it seems that Nintendo is learning their lesson with a great, "high-tech" like design of Revolution. Yes, I don't think the Revolution will be as powerful as the others consoles (even Nintendo has said that) But this generation, the battle will be a different one, since you won't be able to tell diferences in visuals. Strangely, it won't be a technical one. It will be Inovation vs. Evolution. And I think we know what console will start with an advantage...:D:D

That commercial was... God... GET OUT OF MY HEAD, FOR F*CKS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a hard choice, but I definitely want to see a new Rogue Squadron game, a new Final Fantasy installement ( and I mean I want Final Fantasy 13-20 in Rev :D, not just Crystal Chronicles)and possibly a new F-Zero game. Of course, Metroid, Mario and Zelda are all welcome:D!!!! I only hope that, in light of the new agreement between Nintendo and Square-Enix (and since they are porting other FF games for GBA and DS), they start to port their most important games made for Playstation1 & 2, specially Final Fantasy 10 *sniff*... I'm starting to think that I'll never see that game on a Nintendo platform... "Help me, Nintendo-Wan Kenobi, your my only hope!!":D:D

REVs Graphics to be more powerful than THe COmp??
Meo replied to GamerFX128's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well, I guess that Displacement Mapping is even more impressive than obtaining a good bump-mapping effect with just a pass. Unlike normal or bump-mapping, where the normals are skewed to give an illusion of a bump, this creates real bumps. They cast shadows, occlude other objects, and do everything real geometry can do. The shaders/shadowbuffers/raytracer can't tell that you didn't model it that way. Since it is a relative straight-foward technique, displacement-mapping imposes very little additional CPU cost per renderface. Since I only toke knowledge about this technique recently, I'll try to dig more information about this matter. Just my 2 cents, though :D:D:D:D -
Yes, like HERO-OF-TIME said, they are aiming to create a simple yet intuitive way of controlling games just like the old days. So, I also think that N.I.S (Nintendo Intuitive System) wouldn't be so bad :D!!! (as you have discovered by now, I'm an addicted to NES lol) Just my 2 cents

I think it should be called RES - Revolution Entertainment System :D!!!

Well, this affirmation brings only a question to my mind: Did you ever played on a N64? If so, you will discover that the great goldeneye or ocarina of time wouldn't work as well as they do if this button didn't exist. Actually, his position is really well tought, and it gives a more ergonomic feel to the controller. Can you imagine playing a FPS on n64 and not using this button to shoot?Hell, I can't. Can you imagine playing ocarina of time without this button to perform the lock-on system?Again, I can't think of a better button to perform this actions. Despite the shape of the controller beeing a little fancy with the three places to hold, I think this controller is wonderfully designed.Nintendo as always revolutionize the way we play games, and this controller is no exception.Just take a look at the controllers that surround us nowadays. They all are using Nintendo's ideas, starting at the rumble and finishing on the analog stick. Even Nintendo competitors are using they're innovations on their controllers. This controller revolutionized this industry. Do you remember the ridiculous commentaries that people made about this controller when n64 as released?I do.Nowadays, nobody laughs at Dual Shock. Just like nobody is going to laugh about Revolution controller. This is evolution/revolution, and this industry, unlike others, doesn't remain still. Just like n64 controller was copied over an over again for their innovations and complexity, Revolution will be copied, for its simplicity, and for its innovation/revolution.

Well, since very much people don't know what ray-tracing is and what it does, I think that, in this case, seeing is believing LOL:D!! Go HERE and download the benchmark!! By the way, after trying this benchmark, send the creators of this project your results to support and improve this great project:D:D!!!! well, uh, I forgot to tell you this:don't rely on yours Nvidia's or Ati's on this one. If you have a low-end processor (like me!), then forget it. And now i'm just going to shut up, this is going WAY off-topic ...
