  1. No character has really a fixed theme. There is no "Lee Adama" theme or "Gaius Baltar" theme; characters are tied to plot music that happens to involve those characters. If you look at the official soundtracks playlist you'll never see a "Theme" there, you'll see "Starbuck on the Red Moon" or "Starbuck Takes on All Eight". Plot music for characters. About the rest, you quoted me when I said that his music was fantastic, and you said "he completely and utterly failed", and "He set out to prove that TV shows don't need character/plot themes or any orchestrated music.", implying that he didn't use any orchestrated music, hence my response. Maybe I misunderstood what you tried to say.
  2. Well, true, he really never made a proper theme song for characters, the only one I can think of that resembles that is the "Adama-Roslin" song, and also "Pegasus". Instead he always used songs that fit in the on-screen action. His music is based more on the situation, he uses different music for the same characters, depending of their actions. Also, he has used before an orchestra to perform for the show, the only time he wasn't allowed to use orchestral elements was in the first season (lack of budget). His score, though, blends really well when he merges synth and real world instruments. Heavy use of percussion and other etnichal instrumentation are convicing enough with good quality sound banks, sounding almost like the real thing. The "DayBreak" finale, though, had unmistakably heavy sessions of orchestral music performed in Eastwood Scoring Stage by Warner's own orchestra. Even the "Colonial Anthem" used in this episode is very different from the synth-based rendition he used in the mini-series. "Passacaglia" would have sounded awful had it been made in a computer, string intruments don't translate very well and sound very artificial even with good sound banks from good orchestras. Very interesting that he is also scoring "Caprica" with the same orchestra: http://www.bearmccreary.com/blog/?p=1089 Looking forward to hearing what he composed for this.
  3. So this is it, its finally over. Best TV series I've ever seen. I had big expectations about the ending, but it still managed to be better than I thought. Some of the revelations were a bit odd, true, but still... The action scenes, the visual effects, the music. Oh God the MUSIC. Bear McCreary I salute you. From "Passacaglia" to "Admiral And Commander", to the original BSG Colonial theme playing while Galactica flies to its final destiny... There are no words.
  4. New Star Trek trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqWXe42Wqo8 The music is awesome. Really excited about this.
  5. Why are you being so defensive? Maybe you should calm down a bit. It is my opinion as a Dead Space fan. I never said anything about technical limitations and inabilities of the platform, nor did I ever used the Xbox demo version to hype myself for this version or assume it was going to be like that. Infact, if you read my posts I said the game looks good. If by jumping to conclusions you mean assuming that a third person action game, would be still be a third person action game on the Wii, then yes, guilt as charged. But please, if my opinion offended you so much because I don't agree with what EA is doing with this version, please, feel free to ignore my comments. Edit: lol D_prOdigy post
  6. I agree entirely with Shino about this, it's very disapointing. EA announces Dead Space for Wii, a third person action game. Everybody gets hyped; finally EA recognizes that the Wii is the market leader and it's going to give the platform AAA titles, and not that "All-Play" crap and Mario Kart's wannabes. Codecow from Neogaf claims nobody will be disapointed by the graphics. People get even more hyped. Then they announce that their mature, highly hyped title is a lightgun shooter when Wii fans have been crying for years for something that slightly resembles the glorious experience RE4 was. They don't know what they want; on one hand they want to deliver mature content on the platform; on the other hand they are basically afraid of doing something that might be to a turn off for beginners; i.e. controlling the character's legs. For all the people who are claiming that a linear path isn't going to damage the "horror" feeling: have you ever played a true horror game (Umbrella doesn't count as RE is everything but horror nowadays) that doesn't let you move the character? Horror games depend on the psychologic relationship you have with the character; you know you are putting your character (you) on the line when you go through that door. I doubt this game will give someone more than a few scare jumps. And also, local co-op for a horror game? There is a reason why the first one didn't have multi-player. I think most people are doing damage control about this because is a more mature game for Wii. The market leader shouldn't have to put up with lesser versions; and yet, we are in a position where sometimes we even contemplate buying games we normally wouldn't so they keep throwing us a bone. Games that are pure profit to cover the expenses of their other endeavors. Pure financial suicide. This generation is so backwards it isn't even funny.
  7. Dead Rising: CTYD says "Hi". :P
  8. Well I think the real problem here is expectations. Till now, I've seen nobody critisizing the quality of game; actually I believe it might be a pretty nice game. Problem is, backslash is happening because people were expecting a Dead Space game, which is a third person action game. Instead, what was announced was a lightgun game. The same would have happened if Capcom announced Resident Evil 5 for Wii, and then later said the game would be an on-rails lightgun game.
  9. "YES! Dead Space coming to Wii? FINALLY, good quality third-person shooters in the vein of RE4!! EA gets us!" "***Dead Space: Extraction announced***" "... on-rails shooter? ... The fuck?" Let's see if we pass this test aswell, EA. Seriously though, as a big fan of the original this is a bit disappointing. When it was confirmed for Wii I got all excited because its one of those games that lends itself well to Wii controls, just like RE4. On-rail shooters are nice and all, and it's nice seeing Wii help that genre flourish, but this game was a beacon of hope for third-person action games on the platform, and they blew it. Instead they made a game in a genre that is becoming crowded, instead of doing what only a 5 year old port is doing. At least it looks good.
  10. The original team is making Dante's Inferno, so unless they have a small team working on it at Redwood Shores, the game most likely is being handled by another EA studio. Or it will be outsourced.
  11. Holy Shit
  12. Of course, there is a reason why I keep coming here, because I know you guys work your ass off to get news up quickly on your site and are reliable. Shit happens and even the huge sites get wrong info and post it as being true (lol IGN). That said, just like others have pointed out maybe this is just a case of your contact being fired because his studio is being closed.
  13. Just read this, Neogaf's user Vashu: So... Who should I believe? Not to doubt your jornalistic integrity, Tellyn, like Noku said, but are you really sure your source is reliable? As in, they gave you accurate info in the past?
  14. I didn't understand if you are running Windows or OSX, but if you are on Windows you could try Unlocker: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
  15. *MEGA BUMP* Someone at NeoGAF posted a short video which was, allegedly, part of a tech demo that Factor 5 made to showcase their engine. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1CD4038P Not much to see, but their dynamic light scattering implementation looks nice. Cassamassina posted on IGN boards an email he got from inside sources, he was told that Factor 5 closed doors recently... Let's hope not.
  16. I'm almost sure this is a new F-Zero game. Let's hope to hear more about this project soon, if those rumors are to be believed the game is almost done...
  17. New trailer: http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14270799/cursed-mountain/videos/cmounttra2.html Digging the atmosphere and the voice work.
  18. Ah, this really stinks
  19. If this is true... So much fail. Specially when the game appeared to be far in development. Business sense, Square makes none. Keep ignoring the market leader and pouring millions elsewhere, your profits will certainly rise!
  20. "Horsies & Zombies" http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14274937/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill/videos/hotdovhorsetrailer.html SLAUGHTER So awesome. And nice jab at Ubisoft.
  21. And a first party game, no less... Disappointing. And this is one of those games that really demands PL II, specially with the layers of sfx from those natural disasters, demanding strong lows aswell as highs. Not a deal breaker, and most people don't care because they use the default TV speakers... but meh.
  22. I would happily pay for F-Zero GX again if they add progressive scan to the PAL version. That, and online gaming and leaderboards. That would be the only way I would double dip. ... ... ... ... Who am I kidding, I would buy it all over again. Progressive scan would be enough.
  23. Oh god. The music, THE MUSIC. Epic. Sold.
