For the longer term, it's better to get Olympic weights. But the prices are higher. If this is something you're going to do for the next decade, it might be worth the investment. All of the above are advantageous. You can do a lot with dumbbells, a lot with barbells and a lot with kettlebells. What I would recommend is getting both a barbell and dumbbells with adjustable weight plates because you can transfer between the two. That way, you could buy a set of plates with varying weights and equip it in any way that you want. What I do is I stack my barbell (with the weights off) in the corner of the bedroom, against my wardrobe. Right in the corner. My two barbells live there. I have my weight plates put underneath my bench. They don't take up any additional floor space. You can actually fit a lot of stuff in a small space if you think about it carefully. I might take a picture tomorrow to show you where I work and where I keep my things. It's not a great deal of space at all. Do you have a basement that you don't use? Although you'd want to have as much equipment as possible (benches and racks), you're right in saying that there's always ways around this. Different variations for press-ups, for example. Even something like installing a pull-up bar will sort you out in many ways. It really depends on what your goals are. For me, I wanted to be able to do the majority of bodybuilding exercises, so bench pressing, deadlifting, shoulder pressing. For the bench pressing, I'd need the bench. If I wanted to barbell bench, I'd ideally need a stand of some sort, too. You could just dumbbell press, so there's always ways around things. So yes, what are your goals exactly @Retro_Link?

Translation: I am shitting bricks because we should have had the top four sewn up by now, but instead are collapsing and are letting Arsenal back into it. :p

I have the following: Equipment York Weight Bench - Think it's of the 13-in-1 variety. I'll check later. Can do flat, decline and incline benching thanks to it. - about £90 York 5ft (I think) standard barbell - came with an 80 quid weight set 8kg standard barbell - think it's 7 foot. - paid about £25 A set of retractable squat stands - £50 A pair of york 16inch dumbbells (ones where you can add the weights on yourself) - about £10 each I think Another pair of york dumbbells, but with a rubber handle. Works fine but got battered, so brought the new ones. - came with 80 quid weight set Weights 6 x 0.5kg 4 x 1.25kg 4 x 2.5kg 4 x 5kg - all of this came in one weight set 4 x 10kg - 2 of these came in a weight set, I think. I bought the other 2 for about 20 quid each, or around abouts. 2 x 25kg - about £40 quid each. All of these are standard cast iron weights. I initially bought these as a supplement to the gym, where I was still going at the time. I bought a small set of dumbbells and cast iron weights. I had no intention of using this as my primary usage of exercise, at that time. Had I known, I would have been tempted to get Olympic Weights instead. I think that's the lot. Next time, I'll be purchasing either some more 10s, or 15kg plates. Using this, I can comfortably work out at home for all of the main lifts. Shoulder pressing, squatting, deadlifting, bench, all takes place at home.

I'm amazed that it's working, given the limited space. When the summer comes, I may even do some exercise in the front garden. How hilarious would it be deadlifting outside (there's a stone pathway bit)? The only thing I probably miss is the lat pulldowns, but now I'm barbell rowing a lot more, so it's give and take.

What's your plans for your team next season? Bringing in any new ones? The squad looks good. -
Overhead squats wouldn't be a good idea in our flat. Especially as there's light bulbs that are directly overhead where I work out. That would royally piss off that landlord. It makes standing military presses a bit of a nightmare to do, as well.

Aye, that's a good video. I wasn't "gripping" the bar, so to speak. It's more like it's resting. I managed to do 2 sets in the clean position, but I preferred cross-hand as it seemed more natural to me. I'll give it another go next time and see how it goes. I've been falling out of love a little with the back squat. It's beginning to feel like a chore doing it and I don't really look forward to it. I enjoyed front squatting, even though it's a new feeling to me. The downside is that I'm worried it'll lead to the hamstrings and the glutes being underdeveloped compared to the back squat, so I may use it interspersed with the back.

Yes. Pisses me off a great deal. I've made a habit of skipping those parts if I'm watching it on dvd. I don't understand why shows do it. You're already watching it, so must be a fan, so you'll have some knowledge of what's already happening. You don't need to be reminded.

Yeah, but that didn't feel as comfortable to me. The wrist positioning didn't feel particularly great. It felt like I was paying more attention to holding the bar in that case rather than squatting it. My flexibility is and has never been any good. The hardest part of exercising is when you stop. When you're in the middle of it, it feels great and simultaneously easy (because you're in the zone) and hard (because you're pushing yourself). As soon as you get ill or busy with life stuff, it gets harder. I'm in my flow at the moment. I hope work doesn't interrupt that when Easter break is over.

I tried front squats for the first time properly today. It was tricky getting hold of the bar (I opted to cross my arms) and it did dig into the shoulders a bit. But, I did get a bit more used to it towards the end. I'm thinking of incorporating those into leg day, to change things. I seem to be able to get more depth on front squats than back.

Spanish football gets enough coverage as it is. Bayern were unlucky to lose to Chelsea last year, who parked the bus. Dortmund play great football in a great style. Barcelona have featured a lot in the Champions League over the last decade. It would be nice, for a neutral, to see somebody else have a go. Real Madrid play good football, but I prefer the way both Bayern and Borussia play.

He's blatantly been playing shit since he got a contract. Wouldn't be surprised if he's sold on in the near future. Champions League Semi-Finals Bayern Munich vs. Barcelona Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid Best outcome, imo. I can't wait. Hopefully an all German final!

If you were to have players with stamina in your team, would this negate that? So, you'd have increased ball possession for the whole game? -
You need to provide hard evidence before you go around making accusations like that.

What a paradox. The Roger Federer Crew lost harder than we did and yet they seemingly tried to win their game with their ambitious 3-4-3. The only time I'll ever use 4-2-4. Never again. :p It's pure and utter suicide unless you come up against another 4-2-4 or 5-2-3. Question: What exactly does pressure actually do? Is it used to make the midfield "tighter" so to speak? Closing players down earlier? If you had a midfield with lots of players with stamina, playing with pressure should make you really strong, yes? -
A lot of this has to do with perception. Many people join the army because it widens their career opportunities. Many see it as serving and protecting their country, or even going to help others. There will no doubt be some that just see it as a bit of "action" and want to join because they can legally kill people, but I think you'll be hard-pressed to find many who see that as the primary reason they've joined.

That's a good start. Now they need a system to spot offsides. Also, fuuuck, how is Adebayor still playing for a top team? Even before his penalty mistake, he was/is awful. I've never really liked him.

For a change in subject, are we doing a cup? When do the change report results come in? The cup would be in two weeks time, right? -

Xpert 11 Season 26: Space to move, Space to breath, Space to win

Not my fault. :p There were posts to be responded to, so I replied. Well, how can you not laugh at two teams putting out ridiculous formations hoping to get pumped? It goes against the personalities of both me and Haden, who both want to win. Short term: Win the game. Long term: Be competitive and win more games in the future. Yes, I do. The opposition are better, therefore I need to adjust the team to meet the opposition. Also, my team is in a period of transition, so things do need changing. Am I going to be competitive and win the league in 4 or 5 seasons time and for 4 or 5 seasons afterwards with a 31 12? No. Could I do it if I buy in an 18 5 now? Quite possibly. I'm not going to win The Elite League with this team, so I need to do what I can to improve it to give myself a chance. The key there is youth and developing younger players and trying different things. If you could sub keepers, it would be easier. You can't. So, if you buy a 20 6 keeper and you are serious about him being the future, you're not going to win many games in the short term in the Elite League. In the Middle League, you stand a better chance. There's no honour in getting raped by stronger teams. I see more honour in taking the beating now and benefiting from it for years down the line than winning just one or two games from now until the end of the season and winning nothing next season. I know my team better than anyone, just like you know your team. We will win fuck all next season if we go up. :p Keepers might train faster, but for those games that they are in goal in the Elite League, unless you have a superb defence (I don't, hence the whole point of this) then you will lose games. I'm looking forward to just seeing what happens. I'll be livid if we go up now. :p -

Yes and no. The focus for me is winning the Elite League Title in the future. Can I do it by going up and down for the next few seasons? No. I want to challenge my team against equal opposition where I know I stand a chance. Want to know why this season's Middle League has been so exciting? Because the majority of the team's are of equal footing. It makes the game more exciting. How can you possibly try out new formations or know which is your best team if you have to resort to playing 5 at the back to even stand a chance against the bigger teams? Where's the fun in that? Nobody is advertising it as "match of the year". Haden and I are doing it partly for the humour (mostly) and because there are reasons for it. To us, it is funny (what's not funny about playing two goalkeepers in midfield in a 5-2-3?). Maybe you need a sense of humour? Yes and no. YOU can play youths by bringing on a defender who is 17 3 when you already have a 21 9, a 27 12, a 29 12 and a 30 12. If I was up next year, I would be bringing on a 19 5 in place of a 20 7 or a 24 9. It's not the same, is it? Add to the fact that when I was in the Elite League I was trying to develop my keeper. The game IS broken in this respect because you can't train goalkeepers like you can others. You can't sub goalies, therefore a 21 7 keeper has to play right from the start. That is the game's fault, not mine. In the Middle League, I will be able to develop my youths and put out a challenging team. In the Elite League, I will not be able to put out a challenging team. Simple. I can develop youth or I can blow lots of moneyon more experienced players in the hope that they keep me in the league, which defeats the whole purpose of it. It's pretty simple stuff. I've already identified the needs for my team next year, how we'll be playing, what I need to do to improve it. I'm not your cannon fodder for next year so try somebody else, please. ... You're not reading. I am revamping the team next season. They may have some similarities now, but I have already gone over this in the above post. The team needs a rework, particularly that defence. I cannot do that in the Elite League without losing 5 or 6 nil per match.
