Oh YES please!

Yeah it's totally lame. The worst thing is, there are probably a hundred people applying for even that 12hr min wage job. I remember job hunting in the early 2000's, and i would at least get some responses to spec letters, and ended up getting a job through one (also got a job via spec letter in 2006), but now i have sent out more spec letters than i ever did back then, and not had a single response either way. Just get blanked now! Can't wait for college to start back up cos this totally sucks. I'm bored and skint. This summer has been a total write-off.

Cos i had absolutely no one to put for the second reference and couldn't think of a way to get around it/was so fed up after sitting filling out the form for 2 hours. (Can't send it now, as i closed it without saving).
-
It was for the NHS though, and when i read the job application pack (that's like a mini novel) they make it very clear that they WILL check your references, and have your whole application confirmed by them. So i've basically spent 2 hours filling out the online application form (took so long cos it was all out of alignment and crap like that), only to realise there's really no point in submitting it. So i just closed it. I'm so pissed off now. It was only a stupid laundry assistant job for god sake... It shouldn't be so hard.

Does anyone know what "known name" means on an application form? I'm filling one out that asks for my surname and forename, then "known name", wtf? The name i like to be known by?? Edit: *Sigh* Probably doesn't matter now, since they are insisting on my 2 references both being former employers that have known me at least 3 years, and i only have one reference that fits that criteria.

How come England gets flooded but Scotland never does? Especially since Scotland's weather is generally always slightly worse than England's.

Exam results daaaay. I got an overall merit, and a distinction in 2 units. KEWL. (I'd already been told i passed, so i'm not MEGA hyper, but still... very nice!) This calls for chocolate.

I probably should have, but just assumed people wouldn't vote if they didn't drink it! I'm still feeling a bit bad over my 4 sugars. I think i'll go back to my old trick of having half a cup of tea with 2 sugars in, which equals the sweetness of a whole cup with 4. HAH i am genius.

Am genuinely shocked by all the sugar dissing in this thread!

It's an elitist thread, for tea and coffee fans ONLY!

Dog-amoto you're banned from this thread!

I'm feeling a bit bad about my 4 sugars in my tea. I'm not the only one... am i??!

So what's with all the part-time jobs? It's annoying.
-
Why is everything always fucking PART-TIME?? What's the point of that?? Just so they don't have to provide holiday allowance?? I heard it's more profitable for employers to hire two part time workers than one fulltime worker, as they don't have to provide the same benefits to the part-time workers. So greed, basically. I'm on summer break now and was really enthusiastic a couple of weeks back when i started job search, but now i just can't be bothered and feel really discouraged after getting an idea of the type of job ads that regularly turn up. There are so many job sites out there, but they all seem terrible. Full of vague computing jobs and 'exciting opportunities' that are not relevant to me at all. So that leaves Jobcentre Plus (which apparently 60 people apply for every vacancy posted on there, because it's so mainstream), and Gumtree, which i've actually found most helpful, but still not managed to find a job through it. It feels like it's not even worth working part-time and that i might as well just be a poor slacker over the summer and content myself with Jobseekers Allowance. I didn't want it to be that way. *sigh* /rant.

Just watched Paul. It was terrible. I had to turn off 3/4 of the way through, when i realised it wasn't going to get any better. Really weak characters, jokes, and everything in it is cliched. It's anti-american in parts, but at the same time horribly yanky, with all the american stereotypes covered. It's just cringy to watch. Can't believe this is from the same guy who wrote Spaced and Shaun of the Dead. I just found out that Edgar Wright, who usually writes with Pegg, wasn't involved in Paul, which makes me wonder if he's the real talent. As Otto said in A Fish Called Wanda.... "DISAPPOINTED!!!"

The concept of tipping in ridiculous. It should be stopped, and then maybe tightfisted employers would be forced to pay their staff more than peanuts. Why should the general public have to compensate for employer greed? It's not even a fair system anyway. I once had a taxi driver go in the huff because i didn't tip him. At the time i had been working in a shop for minimum wage and the closest thing i ever got to a tip was an old lady buying me a bag of jelly babies one day, which my manager promptly told me i could not keep, as it was against policy! So as someone who has worked for min wage for years in the past without a single tip, anyone with a sense of entitlement over tips can piss right off! And greedy employers can as well. For you to be expected to pay $160 a week to subsidise the failure of employers to pay their staff a living wage is lunacy and you shouldn't do it, don't feel bullied into doing it. Tipping should only ever be optional if you want to be nice/say thanks/they really deserve it/whatever.

The Dark Knight Rises (Spoilers inside, enter at own risk)
Pancake replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Chit Chat
Omg, did they seriously put a stiletto AND lipstick AND kisses in that poster... She's a woman. We did realise that. I really did hope they wouldn't go down the tired femme fatale route. If we must have Catwoman, i want one that's more of an alternate version of Batman himself, not some lipstick marks floozy. -
Maybe i'll try a fan, i always thought of them as just blowing stale air around though. Plus apparently they use lots of leccy, and i don't want my mum moaning about the leccy meter. I'd rather people would just shut up! /bitter.

Oh jesus... The noise pollution here doesn't currently involve Beiber, that's something to be grateful for i guess.

There are 2 choices when you're stuck in the house on a council estate and it's sunny: Either keep the windows closed and put up with stuffiness/warmness or Open the windows and have to hear screaming kiddies, and more often than not screaming parents, plus drunken chavs with booming voices who shout every single word they say... ALL DAY!! They are loud and obnoxious all goddamn day long!! I'm stuck in trying to revise for my theory exam with all this shitz going on!

I was using IE 8, and just upated to IE 9 and it seems to have solved the prob!

My computer keeps skipping all the time. Like when i'm scolling down a page it'll suddenly skip back up to the top of it's own accord. And keeps doing similarly buggy little things, it's very annoying. It's sort of always done this, but i've noticed it's worse in the past few days. I'm never really sure if it's the website, or my computer that has the problem. I have Norton 360, which has a firewall as well. Any ideas?
