  1. You've never played anything else? Literally no other game on any platform ever apart from Splatoon and MK8?
  2. So by this message board's definition, those who sunk hundreds of hours into Wii Sports, Nintendogs or Candy Crush and nothing else, aren't casual gamers? Interesting. A very OTT response to me suggesting those who buy a PS4 just to play one or two games are casual gamers. I somewhat doubt I would have got the same reaction if I'd suggested some people bought a Wii for a couple of games only are casual. A mate of mine did just that a couple of years ago, bought a PS4 just to play GTA and FIFA, and he doesn't really use it for anything else. I would in no way call him a gamer.
  3. What are you talking about? This has nothing to do with my personal tastes in games? I define a casual gamer as someone who either spends very little time playing games, or plays very few titles and nothing else. Neither of those two examples have any interest in the gaming industry as a whole, like hardcore gamers such as those who frequent message boards like this, do. Sorry for not replying to your point that you know 5 non forum members who bought a PS4 for more than 2 games.
  4. If they didn't play any other video game apart from Eve then yes, I would call them hardcore EVE Online players first, casual gamers second. Just as I would call someone who played Wii Sports every day for a year and nothing else a hardcore Wii Sports player, but a casual gamer. Ditto Candy Crush. It's more than a casual interest in that one particular game, yes. It's total indifference to the rest of the gaming industry and the millions of games at their disposal, of which they have no desire to play.
  5. Funnily enough, people who frequent a gaming message board every day are unlikely to be casual gamers, and so are similarly unlikely to be the ones who buy a PS4 for a couple of games and not much else. Then yes, those that pick up 3 titles on a platform and play nothing else are likely to be casual gamers. Hence my point.
  6. I've played and loved Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Smash, Mario Maker, NSMBU, Mario 3D World, Starfox, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Yoshi's Woolly World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker HD, Super Luigi U, Kirby, Mass Effect 3, NintendoLand and Xenoblade on my Wii U, so no, Nintendo-only gamers are not by definition casual gamers as you seem to bizarrely suggest. People who buy a PS4 for the sole purpose of playing 1 or 2 games repeatedly and exclusively are by definition casual gamers. Just as people who play Candy Crush every day non stop and not much else would qualify themselves as casual. Ditto, those who played Wii Sports or Wii Fit and not much else.
  7. Hardcore FIFA and COD players. Casual gamers, who play little else.
  8. I think a massive chunk of PS4s out there were bought for the sole purpose of playing FIFA and COD. Case in point, the huge discrepancy between PS4 and Vita sales. Gaf may be niche, but it's the biggest gaming forum online and so is the best representation of hardcore gamers you'll be able to find in one place. Sure it doesn't include the casual gamers who only play COD or FIFA but that's not really a big issue. In terms of harcore gaming, there's a lot of buzz about NX and the vast majority of complaints about them taking too long to reveal it will disappear when they do eventually show it. Then we'll all (hopefully) be celebrating that there isn't a long wait before it's out.
  9. I hadn't considered this nifty bonus of having detachable controllers. It could mean (optional) controllers tailor made for specific games. [tweet]778693885635592192[/tweet] Yes and Apple's reveal to release window is usually about two weeks. Nintendo's will be 5-6 months for the NX.
  10. My point is, all of the things you mention are either out or coming out in the next couple of weeks and months. Of course we're going to know all about them. PS4 Pro was revealed two months before release, if anything that should show that a shorter reveal > release window is best, no? Mindshare? You can't go five minutes without someone mentioning NX on gaf. The audience in the Ubisoft conference gasped when Aisha Tyler mentioned NX. I'm sure your mates will know all about it when it's revealed. Nintendo haven't said three sentences about it and it's still mentioned every day in gaming, the hype and anticipation is crazy. Patience!
  11. The PS4 Slim is a smaller PS4. The PS4 Pro was revealed a grand total of two months before release. The Xbox One has been out for three years. The Scorpio is powerful, that's basically all we know about it. PSVR is out in two weeks. Of course we're going to know all about it. My point is what difference does it make? The NX was always being released in March whether they announced it 6 months in advance or a year and a half in advance. They've done all they can given the Wii U's failure. If they didn't announce NX 18 months ago everyone would have declared they're giving up console and handheld gaming.
  12. Why? It was a smart move to announce it at the same time as their mobile initiative.
  13. By last few years do you mean 1 year and 6 months? It's pretty clear Nintendo didn't intend to announce NX quite as soon as they did. Iwata only did it to quash potential suggestions they were moving exclusively to mobile development.
  14. Is there any way of downloading the Death Star add-on without paying the cost of the game again and getting the season pass? I want to play the Death Start stuff but I'm not interested in the other three.
  15. I'm not sure to be honest, the console was hidden. I assumed it was just a regular PS4, there was a fair bit of slow down when the action got intense.
  16. Played this at EGX today, it's a spectacular looking game. Gameplay was ok, we did the same thing every demo trailer has done, hunt and take down robot dinosaurs, in basically the same way. I still worry the game is going to be repetitive and shallow. It was quite buggy, the AI was all over the place and the melee animation was far too slow and inaccurate to be enjoyable, but otherwise it was pretty fun.
  17. Nintendo must be loving it. Unbelievable hype, mystery and speculation and they've barely had to say two words about the thing. How to hype a console launch up.
  18. You won't be disappointed, it's fantastic. I'll be buying it and playing through it all over again
  19. He's actually recently said it's from a catalogue I believe. It could be a prototype model I suppose. That cradle looks pretty flimsy though, doesn't seem like it could hold the unit. Edit: as HOT says, never mind
  20. HYPE! Buuut... Why wouldn't he just take a pic of the whole box? Nintendo aren't going to call it the NX. Using a piece of art that everyone has already doesn't scream legit. The buttons aren't named?
  21. I have this rather amazing Mario Maker one, great way of celebrating Ninty's characters and franchises
