Terminator Brilliant and the thought of a completely soulless, unstoppable machine is still terrifying. The sheer simplicity of a robot skeleton makes it probably my favourite bad guy design of all time. Terminator 2 It's amazing how little I remembered of the second half of the film. Still a great film and I'd say it was on par with the first. I know a lot of people prefer it, but I think it's a different type of film. The first one is almost slow paced horror and this is more sci-fi action. Both utter classics though. Klaus Really good. My other half just put it on as something to watch and I'd not heard of it before. Nice story and animation with likeable characters. Not groundbreaking, but a nice Christmas story.

I only got to play it for an hour or so last night, but I'm surprised how much it feels like a Dreamcast game with updated graphics. Not necessarily a good thing, but I personally love it.
-
I also like it. Reminds me of the old Lord of the Rings dvds.

It's crazy to think how much has changed since I finished Shenmue 2. I'm fairly sure I was still at school/sixth form at that point. I genuinely never thought we'd see another installment. It never made sense to make one. The first 2 games didn't exactly sell well compared to their budget and so much time had passed that it didn't seem sensible to do it anymore. But here we are, less than one week to go. Crazy stuff.

It's a hell of a car. Not the most comfortable, but it drives like nothing else I've driven before. I can see why it gets a lot of praise. I thought it would be good, but overhyped. Turns out the praise is justified.

My Fiesta ST is borked, so I bought: I was looking for a standard one, but this one was in pretty good shape, so I went with it. It's got a decat exhaust and induction kit, so it's bloody loud. It's an incredible car though, so hopefully it'll last me a while.

I don't really remember it, but I also don't remember hating it, so probably found it average. As for Death Stranding, I'm undecided. Looks a bit too much like a horror/tense game for me, but the story elements and setting intrigue me.

We're just going round in circles now. I've said a few times I don't mind/care that the videos exist, but I don't see the point in watching them myself. If you care enough, petitioning government to intervene, complaining directly or just not buying their products seems far more productive that just watching a video and getting all worked up about it. Like I said, has anyone actually come away from one of his videos in a better mood than they went in with? Action is better than aimless anger IMO. It's a fair point that I don't have to watch his videos, and I totally agree, but equally no one has to buy games with microtransactions. It sucks that some loved franchises have been dragged down by scummy practices, but move on. Find something else to enjoy, rather than just dwelling on the negative. There's a really good comic strip that I can't find anymore that showed 2 ways of dealing with dog shit on a path. The first, which represented real life, was someone just walking round it with a passing comment in how bad it was that someone had left it there. The second, which represented how people on the internet deal with things, had the person pick it up, smear it all over themselves, whilst yelling to everyone else about how gross and unacceptable it was that it had been left there. It was obviously a silly example designed for humour, but it pretty much sums up my view on microtransactions etc. I can dwell on it, getting myself down or angry in the process (whilst also not actually achieving anything), or I can go about my day and find something positive (whilst also voting with my wallet in this case). It's a purely selfish viewpoint, but it's one that will hopefully lead to a happier existence for me. To me gaming is a hobby. It's supposed to be fun. I don't see the point in going out of my way to find the negatives. It's like going to an art gallery just to look at paintings you hate.

Publisher's aren't going to give a shit about a bunch of YouTube videos if the money is still flooding in, which is the only reason they do it. Just look at any social media post from Rockstar about GTA Online, it's absolutely rammed with people complaining about the price of new cars and how they're priced that way to encourage people to buy Shark Cards. It's blatant, everyone moans about it, Rockstar knows people hate it, yet they keep doing it because it absolutely rakes in the cash. I'm all for reviews and such mentioning what the microtransactions are like (as long as they avoid sensationalism), but I'm just not going to go out of my way to listen to someone moan and complain. I've got better things to do and I feel my mental health be much better for not actively seeking out outrage. Like I said, each to their own, but can any of you honestly say you come away from one of his videos in a better mood than you went in with?

Ok, so Autumn has some benefits. It does look pretty occasionally. Plus Bru did some herding:

By ignoring it to the point that it becomes financially unviable to continue with scummy practices. I get the raising awareness point, but surely we're all well aware of it by now? Do we really need someone complaining about it to let us know that a £99 premium subscription is shit? I have no real problem with the negativity existing, it's just not for me. I hate microtransactions as much as the next person, but I have no interest in going out of my way to dwell on it. I'll discuss it if it comes up, but actively choosing to watch someone complain about it seems like a waste of time to me, especially when I'm already doing all I can (not buying the product) to prevent it.

I haven't watched enough of his stuff to form a proper opinion on him, but I have better things to do with my time than dwell on negativity and watch someone remind me how shit certain aspects of gaming can be. And that seems to be a big problem with people in general. They fucking love negativity, even though it just makes them cynical, pessimistic and ultimately miserable. I used to be (and probably still am to some degree) like that, but I'm making efforts not to watch or read negative content any more, because I just end up angry and cynical. I'd much rather spend my time listening to people enjoy the hobby and finding the positives, because if we're not enjoying it, what's the point? Each to their own, but it's not for me.

You do realise the irony of posting that in a thread named after him that was created just to highlight shit aspects of gaming/microtransactions, right? It may not be what he bases his persona on (I personally think it is and he'd be a fool not to capitalise on it), but it sure as hell is what most people know him foor.

Blade Runner Obviously a classic, but I do find it a bit slow at times. Probably my favourite sci-fi world though. Blade Runner 2049 Really liked it. Still a bit slow in places, but overall better than the original in terms of keeping things interesting. Could have done with being a bit shorter though. Detective Pikachu Loved it. Pretty funny in places and loved the style of the Pokémon. May have to buy it in Blu-ray to watch it again in the future.

Yup, got mine yesterday. I'd better call the doctor in advance, because I'm sure this erection is going to last all month.

My list (may elaborate and add anecdotes later) ZX Spectrum Mega Drive Game Gear Game Boy Pocket Game Boy Colour Sega Saturn Sega Dreamcast Game Boy Advance XBox PS2 XBox 360 (Three of the fucking things, one of which had to be repaired under warranty. Utter shitshow of a console) PS3 Nintendo DS PSP PS4 Nintendo 3DS PSTV I'm not including my retro purchases in there, as I now own almost every console and handheld from Sega/Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft from the 8bit era to the PS3 era.

Reluctance? I've already said it's nice to have. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm not going to lavish praise on someone for something I just don't care about. I have no beef with Microsoft either. Seems there's a reluctance to accept that I just don't care about backwards compatibility. And yeah, I'll use it for a long time, but it's still a huge deal for me to spend that much money at once, regardless of how much use I'll get out of it. Maybe it's not for you and most of the target market, but to me it is and my motivation for doing so is to enjoy new experiences. I also totally get @killthenets point. But again, for me, I've had the whole PS4 generation to play the games I want. As I'm getting older, there's less games that interest me, so my back catalogue doesn't really exist. Plus I'll just keep my PS4, so I can always go back and revisit games if need be. Always good to have an extra Blu-ray player as well.
-
True, but I can do that with the hardware I already have. If I'm spending £400+, I'm doing it for something new, not something I can already do/have had ample opportunity to do. You're right though, it is nice to have. But "nice to have" doesn't hold much sway for me on something that costs three quarters of a mortgage payment.

I was in Gamestation once and someone was buying a PS3 and discussing with the staff about which one to get. They mentioned that they were interested in the one that had backwards compatibility with the PS2. The staff member said something that will always stick with me: "Why would you spend all that money on a new console, only to play old games?". That's basically my view on backwards compatibility. If I'm spending all that money on a console, it would be a massive waste of money to use it to play old games (especially when I already have a PS4 that can do it just fine). The only benefits of backwards compatibility I can see are: Bigger library at launch: PS5 games are the only reason I'd upgrade from my PS4, so being able to play games I can already play isn't a selling point to me. Plus, if the PS5 launch library isn't big enough to entice someone, maybe don't buy one until it is? Convenience of only having one console: Again, to me the point of spending £400+ on a current gen console is to play current gen games. I've barely touched my PS3 since the PS4 came out, so I imagine it'll be the same with PS4 once PS5 comes out. People who don't already own a PS4: This doesn't apply to me, but I suppose I can see some benefit. PS4s are pretty cheap now though, so I can imagine anyone who wants to play PS4 games probably already have one.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Goafer replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Could it not just be that it's not the sort of game Playstation owners want to play anymore? It looks more like an original Xbox/PS2 game to me (in terms of style), in a similar vein to Psychonauts or Beyond Good and Evil. These games just aren't popular nowadays, at least not with Sony/Microsoft's target audience. I don't think any amount of marketing will change that. I'm certain that it would have done well on the Switch, but I don't think it has anything to with marketing. It's just a different userbase that wants different things. You want AAA blockbuster games? Buy a PS4 or XBone. You want more niche, but varied games? Buy a Switch. All companies are doing well, so it's clearly working for them. I personally think it's great that we have this choice and to me, both choices are equally valid. Each side of the coin has great games and can more accurately target their intended demographic. I wouldn't want either side to become a jack of all trades.
