I watched these videos this morning. I'm doing my homework on MH RIse so I can be ready to jump in if there's interest here. The game is shaping up well!

Gates're open if anyone wants to come over for Hamphrey's birthday? I'll be away from the game so feel free to pop in. I will close again in about half an hour. If you prefer to come over for later instead, just drop a post and I will try to accommodate. Ignore the mess; the island's a bombsite. I'm going to have to get stuck in and give the place a good Spring clean!

Anyone pick P5S up, then?

Couple more birthdays coming up on my island, one on the 25th and another on the 27th. I will open if anyone's up for it! (@BowserBasher has his twenty so I'm undecided if he's invited...! )

I came in here expecting everyone to be doing their usual armchair nattering about framerate--Skyward Sword credits was a total slideshow!--only to discover this is the place I can let my hair down and say what I think about 3D World? Or I'll just talk to @drahkonvia PM about it, then. I've only (ever?) not completed one (main) Zelda and that is Breath of the Wild. I've vowed to myself that I will go back to it and try to persevere a bit more before BotW 2. So how about you do yourself a favour and play A Link to the Past on the SNES app?

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (12 Feb 2021)
darksnowman replied to Ronnie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Thanks for the response on where to find that thing, @Hero-of-Time! It was exactly what I was looking for. Got Bowser's Fury swiftly polished off on Friday evening thanks to your reply, otherwise, I would have spent most of the weekend searching for that, I'm sure! This is what I thought I would do, and treat Bowser's Fury as a sort of post-game treat. But seeing the normal credits roll ended up being enough for me. I can only see myself returning to 3D World further down the line if some online multiplayer is organised... or it gets a 3DS demake. -

I'd say it depends how ambitious they want to be; there are plenty of HD-era RPGs out there. -

Sounds right. Much further out of the way than I had been searching--I'll grab it later! -

This Mario Golf has some potential as they are bringing back the RPG side of it. Mario Golf on GBC was amazing (and GBA too), but the 3D iterations have just been "mode select" games. -
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (12 Feb 2021)

Unexpectedly, I finished Bowser's Fury before the Direct last night with 70-something shines in the bank. I had stopped engaging with Fury Bowser ages ago once I realised grabbing a shine or ignoring him would send him back into hibernation as, imo, the time to load the mini overworld for the kaiju battle isn't worth it after you experience the novelty of the massive scale showdown twice or thrice. Grabbing a shine will still chips away at Bowser's health bar and I eventually ended up in another battle that lasted less time than it took to load as hitting Bowser with one block was enough to render him dormant... or so I thought. This time it sent me into the endgame battle... aaaaand what I wanted to say is: The final blow that is delivered to Bowser is truly a moment @RedShell would appreciate. So you should reconsider that offer from @Hero-of-Time! Or, I'll outright give you mine and you can forget about shelling out for return postage? I haven't been writing up my impressions because I've nothing much positive to say about 3D World. At least Bowser's Fury brings something to the table. -

My only preference is that they keep the Smash Bros. news to a minimum! -
Yeah, might have to comply too.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition
darksnowman replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
So I beat the previously mentioned boss with good old button mashing and running across the arena for space to heal. Using artes left me open to being counter combo'd to death in ways that mashing the attack button did not. Well, it turned out that wasn't the final boss or beginning of a boss gauntlet, and there was one more location to head to to finish it with a complete set of party members at my disposal. I partied up with my faves (three physical hitters and Estellise for healing), went in, cleared the dungeon's water level puzzles, had no real bother against the baddies in there, reached the final boss... and hit another wall. Very long story short, I left to go to a shop to top-up supplies, went back and eventually beat him. He had a move that could wipe out all four of my characters unless they were at full health. Not to mention he was really good at healing himself. Routinely, I'd have him down to a few thousand HP only for him to get back up over ten thousand and show me to the game over screen. Rough. And beating him isn't the end! I'm alone again as Yuri and I'm starting to think this game is a bit long in the tooth. For so long it wasn't about saving the world, then it was all about saving the world, and now? Did we fail? Is this the true beginning of the save the world quest? I've no idea but it better be good to justify being this long. -
Yes, @Sméagol it really does encourage you to bomb through it, right! My instincts tell me to fill out all corners of the map and collect everything because as it's a roguelike (not sure if it's a roguelite?), you don't know what pick-ups are out there so you need to take your time and be prepared, but with the timer and time-locked doors... you're encouraged to leg it. Maybe there are persistent upgrades that help with that the more you get into it? Such a strange first impression the game has left with me because like you and @Hero-of-Time are getting at, I've come away wondering if it should just be a straight-up Metroidvania. Maybe I shouldn't have been expecting the modern classic I've seen Dead Cells touted as. Balan Wonderworld @Jonnas I only mention it because I keep typing Wonderland, too. That's a pity to hear it's looking really bad from the demo. I have it queued up a long with the Immortals demo, and I was looking forward to checking it out. P.S. You can do the one week free trial for free.

Anyone else trying out Dead Cells at the moment? It seems all right but doesn't immediately live up to the hype, for me at least. Here's why: on my second run, I got stuck for a good few minutes with seemingly nothing to do but tickle some green goo, and man did I really hammer that tickle button (right shoulder) because I expected something to come of it. Like the goo would grow into a platform and let me access the above area. I ended up combing back through all the rooms I'd cleared out--even going back to the first area a couple of times to see if anything had changed there... maybe a triple jump or wall jump would be given to me?!--then after quite a bit of experimenting, I managed to make it to a platform that seemed unreachable and ungrabbable on previous tries. I only persisted with it because there were no other openings on the map. Maybe you get used to it over time, but something about the jumping feels off to me here. It doesn't help that the second area requires precise platforming to land between spikes and avoid rotating mace things.
