Nintendo Direct (Thursday 27th March 2025 @ 14:00 GMT)
Hero-of-Time replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Sat and watched it again this morning. It was such a weird Direct. It felt a little desperate. Things such as the Virtual Carts and new app (can't believe they ended the show with this) could have just been a quick youtube video or blog post. Rhythm Paradise and the Tomadachi game showing up but not releasing until 2026 felt something more suited to a Microsoft/Sony event. Nintendo have been great in recent years in showing and delivering games in a short space of time. I'm not sure what their thinking was here. The show really lacked any killer blow. I get it, the Switch is on its way out but it seems to gone out with a whimper and not a bang. Dunno if it was Nate or Grubb but one of them said there are 3 Nintendo games that they know of that didn't show up in the Direct for some reason. Gotta imagine Kirby and FE were these. If so, I've no idea why they would hold them back any further. One thing about these shows (Directs and SoP) now is that all of them lack exclusives. Most of the games shown are now on all platforms and while that's great for consumers, the shows themselves feel less special to me. Meh/10. -
Nintendo Today! App (Available Today – 27th March 2025)

This was pretty much my experience. Downloaded it, faffed on a bit and deleted it. I'll continue to get my news from the likes of Era. I'm not really sure what this brings to the table to people who already follow gaming news elsewhere. -
Earlier in the week, I fired up the 3DS and decided to play Kirby Blowout Blast. I played it back in 2017 but never finished it. I changed that today. The game is very satisfying to play. You play as Kirby (obviously) and go through stages that are only a couple of minutes long. You have to suck up enemies and strategically fire them at other enemies in order to create chains and rack up a big score. No abilities to be had here. Trying to earn the highest rank takes a lot of trial, error and planning. This is where the main meat of the game is. You can see the first set of credits pretty quickly but in order to see the true end you will need to get at least a gold rank on every stage to unlock the Secret Path level. This is a gauntlet that pits you with completing 5 challenging stages with bosses at the end of each of them and you have to play them all in a single run. The key to high scores are the awards that you get at the end of each stage. There are several to earn and they require you to do tasks such as finish the level quickly, do not get hit and kill every enemy. Because the stages are so short, I didnt really mind having to repeat stages in order to meet these requirements and obtain a better score. It's another fine example of Kirby being a chameleon and being able to fit into any genre he gets thrown at. Loved it.

Yeah, they are pretty much done. Such as shame because they have some great IP under their belts but they have squandered them over the past 10 years or so. Saying that, the consumer is to blame as well. The recent Prince of Persia game was fantastic and very reminiscent of the old Ubisoft but sadly nobody bought the thing.

Wow. No Fire Emblem or ports of Zelda, Kirby or Kid Icarus. Very surprised by that. -

Rhythm Paradise. Many called/wished it and they've got what they wanted. -
Any rhythm game fans who've not yet had the opportunity to play his series need to get involved.

Physical release is being done by the ever scummy Limited Run Games. Bah. Hopefully this will be like SoR4 and hit standard retailers as well. -

Kid Icarus Uprising Remastered? It was rumored to be a thing a while back. -
Shame it wasn't Messi. I'd pay good money to slap him around.

Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Nightcrawler, Mystique...all from the Fox X-Men universe. Is Doomsday actually Avengers vs X-Men? If so, this makes me a happy man.

There has been a few people speculating that a Rhythm Paradise/Heaven game could show up. Seems like the right time if it was to happen. Personally, I think they should save Prime 4 for the Switch 2 show. Saying that, there could be an argument for showing it here and then showing how good it will look on the Switch 2 come next week. Yeah, DKR or DK64 on NSO would do me nicely -

I'm pretty excited for it. It's great to see Nintendo finally supporting a home console in the later stages of its life. They be coming for that PS2 record.... -
Yeah, I imagine a little reminder at the end of tomorrow's Direct will show up.
-
Are we expecting a tweet/announcement at 2pm for tomorrow's Direct? If real, I can't imagine them just dropping the thing out of nowhere.
-
Yeah, German ratings/box arts suck. Sorry. @drahkon. Looking forward to reading what you think of Emio, @Nicktendo. Hands down one of the best games I played last year.
-
@Nicktendo I blame you for this. I decided to fire up the NSO and start a new file. I've no idea if I will go through the whole game but after Nick was talking about it the other day, I very much had the desire to play it again. I've only played through the first dungeon so far. It's funny, the game released the same year as Metal Gear Solid and while that gets a lot of praise for pushing the medium forward with it's story telling and cutscenes, I feel Ocarina of Time doesn't get the credit it deserves. Sure, it doesn't have voice acting and long cutscenes but what it does with very little is very impressive. For instance, the way the game pans the camera when entering a dungeon... ...and when entering a boss chamber and seeing the boss for the first time... ...or when the killing blow has been delivered... ...all of these are very cinematic. Even some of the camera angles used give off this feeling as well, such as this shot... So, yeah, one dungeon down... ...and many more to go. I may just do a dungeon a day (to keep the Ganon away) while I settle down for the night. Proper cosy gaming. As a side note, I've reverted back to using my gaming Twitter account purely because BlueSky don't allow for a private option. I hate people following me (sorry @Happenstance, @Glen-i and @Cube) or anybody been able to just look at my post and comment on them.
